freedom ,   canada   (08.31.06)
in the Persian gulf.. wonder what happens to them when sanctions come .....What happens to the Iranian economy when they cant sell that much oil??? Since 80 percent of total GDP in Iran is oil related. Maybe Hizbullah can help them out. lol.

4. What do you mean by negotiation?
Jesse ,   Tempe, AZ   (08.31.06)
I thought that was what the United Nothing was doing Seems to me that we need to take a harder approach.
5. Stone-age ppl don't listen
John ,   NZ   (08.31.06)
You have to hit them... hit them hard with force then they'll start to listen. Sanctions won't work either. Look @ Iraq Sadamn era or N. Korea. Kofi will exploit sanctions and make heaps out of it. There is no longer any Law & Order left in this world. Ppl. blowing up planes, blowing up humans and now going nuclear to terrorise the world.... all in the name of God.
6. It's Iran supid...
KOFI IS NOT FOR U ,   GET IT!   (08.31.06)
DEBKAfile Exclusive: The most burning issue on the mind of UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in his talks in Jerusalem was not Lebanon – but Iran Our exclusive Jerusalem sources reveal that the issues raised at his press conferences with Israeli PM Ehud Olmert and FM Tzipi Livni – the full implementation of UN resolution 1701, the Israeli blockade of Lebanon, the kidnapped Israel soldiers, the embargo on imported weapons for Hizballah - were all left outside the closed doors of the conference rooms he entered in Jerusalem. Inside, the UN Secretary went straight to the point: He wanted an Israeli message to hand to Iranian leaders in Tehran which he hoped to visit later in his 11-day Middle East tour. The message was to contain an assurance that, despite the Lebanon war and the accelerated tempo of the Iranian nuclear program, Israel undertook not to attack Iran. Annan wanted to be the bearer of a Note in this vein to dispel the Islamic Republic's fears of an imminent Israeli strike. He told Olmert he intended placing this assurance in the hands of supreme ruler Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in person. Olmert turned him down. DEBKAfile's Jerusalem sources add: Olmert asked the UN Secretary if he had procured a message in this spirit from Washington and, if so, would he submit the American and Israeli notes to Iran's rulers together or separately. According to our sources, Annan ducked the questions and instead waxed eloquent on the breakthrough in Iran-Israeli relations which an Israeli pledge to refrain from attacking Iran was capable of effecting. "With your note in my hand, I can get an interview with Khamenei himself," he said. The UN secretary rated a meeting with president Mahmoud Ahmadnejad as of "no importance" except as a courtesy call. Annan explained that, on the strength of an Israeli assurance, he would be able to promise the Iranian leader that he need not fear UN Security Council sanctions or any other unpleasantness and that the nuclear controversy could be worked out amicably. Olmert and Livni were not convinced. Secretary-General Annan departed Jerusalem empty-handed, as he did Beirut, where Hizballah refused to part with the slightest scrap of information on the abducted Israeli soldiers for him to carry to Jerusalem.

Well don't get too happy. if that happens you'll be payin' even more for gas in Canada. definitly more the 130 cents per L.
8. What is Israel is waiting for?
Sabientje ,   Weston, USA   (08.31.06)
To be wiped out off the face of the Earth? Why doesn't Israel bomb Iran's nuclear facilities and get it over with just like it did with Irak? The longer Israel waits, the closer Iran gets to its objective: To destroy all of Israel and annihilate its people.
9. Iran dictator
Yasgar ,   Colubus, OH   (08.31.06)
Too much inbreeding in his blood line. Nut Job like that Syria goof ball.
10. #1 - freedom in Canada
the logical nemesis   (08.31.06)
Remember, the world has been here before. Hussein did almost exactly the same thing and even after sanctions went into effect it took more than a decade for him to finally be taken to task. He painted such a horrible picture of the suffering U.S. (not to be confused with U.N.) sanctions were causing his people; all the while he was making mega deals under the table to avoid the sanctions. And when the U. S. finally stood up to him a good portion of the world, including some of our own claimed it was an illegal war. If the Democrats get a strangle hold on our government this year, I have serious doubts we’ll be there to end this mad man’s reign, no matter how much of a threat he becomes to us to any other country. Just thought you might want to know for future reference.
11. Enough of this already!
DH ,   USA   (08.31.06)
Isn't it time someone 'take care' of President A-mad-jihad?! OK Israel, time to launch Operation Samson. If not, history will likely repeat itself. Only this time with much worse results. How unfortunate.
12. Iran & the deadline
Jeff ,   Three Rivers,U.S.A.   (08.31.06)
Ive been a avid reader of world news and events for along time now,and this mess with Iran since 79.I think its time we quite letting them play us,and forgo the sanctions, for a complete and heavy bombing of ALL sites, and while were there, take out the military bases, air force and as many navy ships as able to target.enough is enough or Im afraid "never Again"is going to creep up on us from around the corner.Yes
13. re:Hmm those Iranian oil tankers floating around
gnorville ,   virginia   (08.31.06)
Or maybe they'll just sell oil to their major trading partner - China.

16. Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty
Eric ,   San Diego   (08.31.06)
Iran has signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty which allows them to enrich uranium and use the fuel for peaceful power purposes. The US is also a signatory to this treaty. Israel is not. The problem is therefore not Iran, but it is getting Israel to sign this important treaty.
17. hmmm
England   (08.31.06)
who said theres gonna be sanctions, russia or china will use there veto so the only method for america (the method they want) will be to go to war with iran. Syria and iran have a military pact, iran is about to sign a military pact with china, and china has a military pact with russia, so america and israel should think twice about going to war with iran, they are not weak opponents such as iraq or afghanistan, they have upto date military equipment, they have the support, they have the knowledge and the allys, iran would not go to war if they didnt think they could win. America on the other hand would as they have done in the past, same with israel.
18. Anyone please can stop this mess?
Marc ,   Cavaillon   (08.31.06)
Obviously president Bush Jr is driven by a Jihad, he does his best to raise islam support, and in the whole world. He is terrific ! Take Irak, this great country able to challenge Iran, this country without islamic law : his government choose to eradicate Iraki power, so Iran power could raise and raise. To bring democracy? With the violance and the murderers brought by the policies of both US & Israel, if Morocco was a democracy imagine who should be winning, if Algeria, if South arabia, if Koweit, etc etc :and of course Irak : Bush is a jihad fighter, he killed democracy in ME. So he did in Asia, look Korea, South Korea is afraid of each US word that could bring a polirical tsunami.... And now, Iran : thanks to Bush's jihad, country after country the balance will be positive for radical islam if nobody stops those mad politicians, GW. Bush junior and Cheney and Co. Quick before the whole world turns to islam thanks to them and thanks to sion
19. Iran will surprise the world just like it did in lebanon
one world citizen   (08.31.06)
go , go ,go , go , go , Iran , go ......
20. Iran has right to build it's peaceful nuclear power!
Arabian Wolf   (08.31.06)
And they have right to build nukes if they wish. They are independent nation like all the rest and can build nukes if they wish! And i want to congratulate in advance the next nuclear state in middle east: Iran.
21. ok lets try something else
fadi ,   lebanon   (08.31.06)
i posted an earlier talk back today ... a moderate one stating that iran has the right to have a nuclear bomb in the same way that israel has one. But it was not posted by ynet. So lets try something else ... something really tough and provokes hatred ... i kind of think it will be posted. its a test ..... Ahmadenijad is a great genius and leader ... and hes yearning (and hes not the only one) to the day that there will be a huge mushroom cloud above tel aviv ... though i hope one thing is on that day the wind should be blowing towards the see otherwise were all in deep shit !!!!!
22. Advice to the world:
fadi ,   lebanon   (08.31.06)
Start getting used to the idea of an iranian nuclear bomb. Pobably in the next round of fightin between hizbollah and israel... Hizbollah will be fighting while having a strategic detterance emm or a strategic offensive weapon (couple of iranian nuclear bombs :D )
23. #20 One big difference...
Jason ,   Canada   (08.31.06)
...there aren't any other nuclear states whose leader is talking about wiping another sovereign nation off the face of the earth.
24. #1 Really
Lebanese ,   Lebanon   (08.31.06)
Yeah, and the oil price will reach $ 150 because Iran is a member of the OPEC. U will also see people in the states and canada and the rest of the world crying because of the oil prices, inflation will rise, unemployment will rise and ur gov will come begging to lift the sanctions on Iran. Remember Iran is not Iraq......
25. 2 Dark Justice are you into 666????
freedom ,   canada   (08.31.06)
Maybe you should really do some research on what you say. What you give is what you get. Freedom is better than Islamic fascism, Canada is a great country. Maybe you should make it greater.
26. 7 Dont think that is going to happen.
freedom ,   canada   (08.31.06)
The world is moving to a much slower economy. Soon there will be too much oil on the markets. Irans main export is crude oil products. They have had a history of expropriating oil and gas equipment. Like I said what you give is what you get. Taxes are too high here.. Too much government, not enough money going to the army and navy.
27. 10 Lower oil prices and conservation
freedom ,   canada   (08.31.06)
will bring a steep decline to Irans economy as they are overly dependent upon oil revenues. Personally, I wonder why the average Iranian doesnt have a better life, except for all the squandered money on weapons and such. At least provide for the people in Iran, as oil prices wont be high forever. Sanctions wont matter that much, as oil will always find its way to market.
28. 13 There is no major pipeline to the east,
freedom ,   canada   (08.31.06)
as of yet. Likely never will be as it would have to go through afghanistan to get to china. Oil will flow with or without sanctions albeit in a reduced manner. Funny part is the USA could do a better job just conserving fuel as this would lead to lower prices and less disposable government funds to spend on war (hizbullah).
29. You have to be a total moron
(08.31.06)
to believe that Iran and Ahmadnijan give a s*** about the sanctions. The UN showed the world that it has absolutely NO power at all. What are they doing? threatening to talk about making sanctions? How many times are they going to threat before anything will be done? Iran will stop when it will have an Atom bomb. If any sanctions will take affect, what will happen to the world oil prices? 120$ a barrel? 150$? And to all of you who think that the world can isolate Iran, think twice - the Russians are supporting Iran, it's a corrupted country as well where money is the only reason for the government to do anything.
30. 15 US needs a "cowboy" not a pansy intellectuals like French
