1. Well, OK Then!
Abu Daoud ,   Al-Quds, Israel   (09.01.06)
NOW I'm convinced! Syria is going to cooperate!! They said so themselves!! All is well! Peace in our time!
2. Kofi Annan wins Syria's backing
Kemp ,   Nahariya, Israel   (09.01.06)
Two of a kind and fools they be that believe either one. Syria will increase border patrols between Labanon and Syria with the sole purpose to ensure Hizbullah is fully rearmed and supplies get through uninterupted
3. Pull the other one, it's got bells on!!
Simon ,   Kfar Saba, Israel   (09.01.06)
Who are they trying to kid? It's like the Lion and the leapard saying they will stop the hyeena from scaveging food! Syria is going to help Lebenon in curbing re-arming Hizbullah!! Is this some kind of cruel joke or what!! Oh and the UN welcomed this rhetoric. It's like the blind keading the blind as usual.
4. A very good joke, Kofiko
Ashan ,   Israel   (09.01.06)
Syria imposing an arms embargo on the Hizbonazis! That's a good one Baby Bashar! Kofiko really loved that joke so much, he's still laughing - all the way to Teheran!
5. Adnan-Assad are such good actors
John ,   NZ   (09.01.06)
being the good guys for the world to see.
6. Assad is a liar !
hiram ,   tel aviv   (09.01.06)
Believeing that Assad would enforce anything of this kind is so stupid that I even wonder why YNet uses its space to publish it ! Syria cannot afford to betray its partner in terror , Iran ! There is however one common link between Mahmoud and Bashar : both of them say black to day and will say white tommorow, a well established tactic used by dictators the world over and confirming their mental unstability from the purely medical standpoint !
7. more than israel's committed to publicly..
el gato ,   melbourne, australia   (09.01.06)
well at least it's a statement which could be taken on good faith. hasisrael even committed to implementing the ceasefire it (belatedly) agreed to? has it lifted the air and sea blockade or endeavoured to pay lebanon reparations for the war damage caused? i didn;t think so...
8. Annan makes moral equivalency between Israel and terrorists
Zionist ,   Israel   (09.01.06)
Annan reprimands Israel for hitting civilian infrastructure, but says nothing about the cynical terrorists who use civilian infrastructure for cover. Hizballah fired rockets from backyards and received arms through roads and bridges. If Israel would listen to Annan, it would have no way to fight back against a cowardly enemy that uses human shields. When a terrorist organization uses houses as launching pads and bridges as resupply routes, these civilian structures turn into terrorist infrastructure and therefore they are legitimate targets.
9. You what?
Danny   (09.01.06)
Given virtually all the arms fired at Israel came from Syria, surely Syria doesn't need to patrol to enforce the embargo or Annan trying to give Assad an excuse to send troops back in Lebanon to "assist"?
10. Let's focus on the REAL problem
Anthony ,   Antwerp, Belgium   (09.01.06)
We all know that Hizbullah is finished (even though they don't admit it). The real problem today is the Iranian nuclear program. Syria, Lebanon are today second degree problems (except for the Israeli prisoners issue - which is a priority).
11. # 7el gato
Keren ,   Sao Paulo   (09.01.06)
hey ,el dumb! Who is going to pay for the reparations in Israel ,caused by hisbollah roquets? Both sides had serious damages, being the difference ISRAEL DIDN'T WANT THIS WAR;IT WAS PUSHED TO IT! And about Assad,no sane person will believe his words and kofy ones. These people are some of the actors on the actual madness going on in the ME and in the world.Their goals are worlwide madness and disaster. Sane people should open their eyes VERY QUICKLY!
12. Kofi,naive or simply prejudiced?
Monty ,   Tel Mond Israel   (09.01.06)
Annan doesn't know, so I will enlighten him. Our Arab neighbours are notorious liars, and Assad is no exception. However, he loves to believe these people while not believing Israel when he repeatedly states that Israel is attacking civilians. Kofi, you should know that ball-bearing filled Katyusha rockets are specifcally designed to maximise CIVILIAN casualties. Try to speak out about the 4000 such rockets fired indiscriminately. Bear in mind that cluster bombs were dropped in areas where Hisbullah troops were hiding. They are no different to the bombs dropped by USA forces in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq
13. "Syria promised...!"
Matthias Roth ,   Switzerland   (09.01.06)
So what! Only a fool relies on the promises of this Syrian regime. Obviously Annan is such a fool!
14. S U R E !!!
ESK ,   Jerusalem, ISRAEL   (09.01.06)
Let the cat keep the milk...
15. Cluck, cluck...
Mark ,   Boston, MA   (09.01.06)
Now that Kofi has arranged for the fox to guard the hen house all the chickens should be able to relax.
16. are you for real?
Joe ,   NY, NY   (09.01.06)
I want to take what Anan is taking. This good stuff sure helps him to face reality. It might help me as well.
17. Cluster Bombs and Katyusha Rockets
Robert ,   Philadephia USA   (09.01.06)
I heard that Assad and Ahmadinejad were demanding an explanation from Nasrallah for why Hisbollah was using some of the weapons Iran and Syria provided against military targets!
18. set up. Syria and Lebanese-Hezbolla jt patrols.
Truth ,   USA   (09.01.06)
Wow! Kofi must be one great negotiator! He convinced Syria and Hezbolla co-opted Lebanese army to joint patrols to "prevent" Hezbolla from receiving Syrian arms! Woo! hu! Aren't they Israel's sworn to death arch enemies, who vow "no peace" and "destruction of Israel"? Weren't they the proxy punks against Israel in the just "finished" war? UN, Syria, Lebanon and Hezbolla (at least). Now, they miraculously "guard" Israel's security interests! Kofi & Co. must be very pleased with themselves! If 1701 is "implemented in its entirety" as Kofi says, Israel IS IN BIG, HUGE, CATASTROPHIC, TROUBLE!" GET RID OF OLMERT & DO A 1559 ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a) They are going to start atrocious sh*t b) Shield w/ the int'l UN Troops c) Fight, lose, blame Israel, as d) Israel incurs unprecedented world condemnation and hostility re: the int'l UN Troops. Dear God, thank you for helping Israel with Ezekiel 38. You are incredible!
19. Anan's no mans "fool", he's an accomplice!
Truth ,   USA   (09.01.06)
However, Anan & Co. ARE supreme fools before the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. :) God bless Israel.
20. Annan is the new Chamberlain
Itay ,   Israel   (09.01.06)
21. You guys don't get it!
Andy ,   London   (09.01.06)
Israel lost the war, and losers do not have an opinion in setting conditions. The only thing you can do is threaten planes coming to Beirut airport, that's it!
22. Israel lost the war, Lebanon sets the rules, not israel!
Andy ,   London   (09.01.06)
23. Emblematic of the UN
Stephen ,   Raleigh, US   (09.01.06)
Koffi Annan, an avowed supporter of the arab/farsi states' dedication to the extemination of all Jews everywhere is happy with whatever statements Syria and Iran make that will further that one aim. Of course he's happy with it. That's his job. So let's not be too amazed by it. His only regret is that he wasn't able to engineer arab armies occupying northern Israel - but wait that proposal in coming. Arab peacekeepers and German boxcars is Koffi Annan's plan.
24. Russian set-up
Sal ,   Florida   (09.01.06)
This is a Putin Belzebuh-red army KBG plan. set-up foreign military troops along the lebanise-Israeli border, so when hezz send again his katush-rockets Israel will retaliate to Syria destroying it, because is biblical. then russia gets mad and hell brake loose. wait and see.
25. The UN, oy veh!
Sidney ,   USA   (09.01.06)
1. By negotiating a prisoner exchange, the UN gives its imprimatur to crossing an international border to kill and kidnap. 2.The UN is very upset about cluster bombs but is unconcerned about deliberately firing rockets at Israeli cities day after day. 3. The only prisoner exchange that I would approve is Olmert, Peretz, and Halutz for the three Israeli prisoners. As an extra, I would give them Yossi Beilin for Ron Arad.
26. Andy doesn't get it
Simon ,   Carlisle U.K   (09.01.06)
Nobody win's in a war but it's obvious who suffered the most "The party of Murder" (and Lebanon) so they lost more than Israel who are merely responding to decades of daily provocations which you in your safe U.k world know nothing about.
27. Knowing annan
Arie ,   Afula   (09.01.06)
he probably gave assad a way to supply hezbullah using UN supply chains. I wonder how much assad is paying adolf annan for the privelege?
28. To # 11(el gato)
Sal ,   Florida   (09.01.06)
Lebanon get over 900 million in help even before he commits to UN resolution XXXX. What about Israel. Is Kofi-kaka paying out of his pocket the damage done by Hizzbula. Then who is going to pay the damage Syria? EU? hell nobody dirty bastards.
29. Syria " " " P R O M I S S E D " " " ! ! !
gerd schulz ,   germany   (09.01.06)
Oi va voy!
30. #26, Simon Doesn't want to get it!
Andy ,   London   (09.01.06)
"The party of murder" as you define them were only founded after the Israeli invasion and land capture by Israel in 1982, they resisted until 2000 when israel partly withdrew from lebanon leaving the issues of Shebaa farms and prisoners for possible future negotiations so that Israel has the upper hand. How can you say Israel was responding to decades of provocations when the IAF have broken into lebanese airspace 12000 times since the year 2000? When they continously bomb lebanon at the beginning of tourist seasons. The superiority complex that Israel has is what provided the foundations for hezbulla to grow in strength to defend its people in the south against the bullying IDF. And finally, as you have accused me of knowing nothing from here in the UK (you are also in the UK), I lived through 15 years of war in Lebanon, including the 1982 invasion and Israeli massacres in Lebanon, so I have a fair idea actually.
