1. Qatar???
Abe ,   Brooklyn   (09.04.06)
The Qatari press is about as reliable as Yasser Arafat's heterosexuality.
2. Why not before...........
Avraham ,   Netivot   (09.04.06)
Why wasn't this deal made without going to war? We could have saved over 100 Jewish lives. What a stupid government we have!
3. This is laughable.
freedom ,   canada   (09.04.06)
1400 criminals for a war hero, and all the stipulations. Olmert and Peretz should resign twice already. This will show the terrorists that its okay to kidnap, as the rewards are huge. What a pathetic government to do this.
4. I cannot accept this to be true
Andy ,   Canada   (09.04.06)
5. response to #2 how did your government know?
maria ,   philippines   (09.04.06)
be thankful....for just the sake of one....1400 palestinians will be released. remember, terrorists are very tricky and cannot be trusted. they even thought they won the war ,in reality they did not.they might do it again.
6. Shame Israel
Derek ,   USA   (09.04.06)
As a spectator with a brain I must say that you, (Israel), by doing this swap, have put another nail in your own coffin. Have you learned anything?? Utterly absurd that you would even consider a prisoner swap. Rediculous. Shame. After all you have suffered you bow to your enemy's objective.unbelievable and unforgivable mistake that will haunt you......your country is doomed because they know you will always capitulate. and 1400/1? utter insanity. So much for jews being good bargainers..............lol
7. I don't believe this
Israel   (09.04.06)
8. Why is everyone surprised?
Michael A. Gold ,   El Paso, Tx   (09.04.06)
Since when has the US really ever been friends to the Jews? Before anyone writes back, read this book. 'The Secret War against the Jews' by J Loftus and M Aarons ISBN # 0-312-15648-0
9. Good news. Chronicle of a Release Foretold
Proud Grandpa ,   www.KingArik.net   (09.04.06)
It's sad that so many lives have been sacrified in the process for Olmert's vanity and lack of experience.
10. agree with 6, this deal stinks
(09.04.06)
11. Guys, this is the Gaza soldier, not the Lebanon ones.
Palestinian   (09.04.06)
For the Lebanon ones, you will have to free all prisinors you have now, and all those you will arrest for the upcoming 5 years :))))))))
12. Leave no one behind ...
NS ,   Heartland USA   (09.04.06)
Leave no-one behind thats the cause, this soldier needs to come home Don't judge i'm sure it was not an easy task ,we all know how the palestinians and their leaders divert the discussion away from the relevant facts, rewriting or ignoring history and reinventing international law to suit their aims. These facts must not be forgotten......besides there will be plenty of time for that later..Gilad Shalit's return home will be an answer to many many prayers..
13. Hmmmmmmm
John ,   W'gong, Australi   (09.04.06)
I'll beleive it when i see it.
14. Olmert's vanity is nothing compared to Sharon's
Ilan ,   Ariel   (09.04.06)
Olmert was promoted to 2nd in line because he was a spineless worm and suck up to Arik Sharon. Now we are stuck with him until Mazuz decides that Israel deserves poltiicians who are minimally honest. He never got around to Sharon, but he may with Olmert.
15. Are you kidding me?
Roni   (09.04.06)
As much as I want Gilad Shalit to come home to Israel alive and well, the proposed agreement is simply outrageous! The terms are absolutely unacceptable to Israel. This will only lead to more kidnappings! I support a swap deal of some kind but I am convinced that any deal should not lead to a release of a massive number of arabs and under any agreement arabs WITH BLOOD on their hands can not be freed. I hope the presented agreement is not true.......
16. #DUMB DEREK ,6
Ariel ,   Afula   (09.04.06)
you can leave if you want your soldiers in iraq & afghanistan being killed every day by 4-5 soldiers but let us save our soldiers as we want
17. the biggest mistake
(09.04.06)
18. I hope that there is NO truth in this whatsoever !!
michael ,   tel aviv   (09.04.06)
19. We don't deal with these situations properly
Shai ,   Israel   (09.04.06)
They want to release convicted murderers of Jews from our prisons. I have a better idea. 1) make a list of convicted terrorists (CONVICTED, not on trial, not suspected, but we're SURE they did it), starting with those who wanted to die in a suicide bombing but were caught before they could carry it off. 2) assign each murderer to a day of the calender, and publicize the names so that their families can put pressure on the PA and the terrorists who took our soldiers to release our soldiers, starting with the women among them and the prisoners who where there the longest, whom for some reason the enemy thinks deserve special treatment even though they had no mercy on any of our women and old people. Let's give it to them. 3) each day, take one of the suicide belts we gather from our raids, and instead of blowing it up, attach it to the murderer with an impact fuse. Add a few more bombs gathered from PA Kassam stocks for good measure. 4) Attach the murderer to the bomb clip of one of our IDF fighters and take flight for the mission. But first, prepare a video showing those who are attaching him to the clip, holding rifles and reciting lines from Israel's Declaration of Independence, and offering thanks for the priviledge of being able to keep one more murderer from killing us. Release the videos to Al Majar and Al Jazeera. 5) Fly over Gaza and drop the convicted murderer on the house of one of the Hamas leaders, blowing him and them to pieces, as they wished to blow us to pieces. Mida k'neged mida. 6) Do this every day until they release our prisoners to safety. If there is another suicide bombing or terrorist attack, then the number of injured and killed will result in a corresponding number of murderers being dropped onto Gaza with their suicide belts. If our prisoner is harmed, they will all be dropped on Gaza with suicide belts in the span of a single night. I can almost guarantee you that this talkback will not be printed, though it does not convey hate, nor does it say anything about Arabs generally. It says simply that these murderers deserve not to live if the cost of keeping them alive is that we always put our soldiers in danger of being kidnapped to release them, nor do those who sent them deserve to live, and if we want to stop these kidnappings we have to show these murderers that the more they pull this shtick off, that more of their prisoners will die, the opposite of what they want - not the more that will be freed. None of the other methods are working and this one should be tried.
20. It took NINE nations to do this?
Roger Mattingly ,   Louisville USA   (09.04.06)
I am absolutely amazed! "The agreement was brokered by the United States, France, Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Qatar and Egypt, the newspaper stated. " I have no experience whatsoever in negotiating anything. I even have difficulty buying a car without getting taking advantage of. However, I am 100% certain that I could have negotiated THIS agreement. Has everyone in government throughout the world completely lost their senses?
21. How low we have fallen - alas those Entebbe days are gone!

23.  # 2 - U R SO RIGHT !!!
liliane   (09.04.06)
That's what i keep asking : why let those dear kidnapped soldiers suffer so long and break the heart of their poor parents and close families ? Isn't it obvious that the damn prisoners must be released in exchange ? To hell with Olmert's void declarations.

25. This is the only way
DAS ,   India   (09.04.06)
Yes, this is the only way to free Palestinian prisoners kidnapped by Israeli occupation. History has shown that Israel understand only the language of force. Palestinian went into peace process sine more than 10 years but Israel does not want peace. It refused to free any Palestinian for the sake of peace or for strengthenening Abu Mazen. But when Hizbullah Kidnapped Soldier in 2000, we have seen how quick did Israel free Lebanese prisoners. So it is the only way.
26. # 5 - common sense vs naivety
ilana   (09.04.06)
It goes without saying that the only way to bring back our kidnapped soldiers is to release palestinian prisonners. Why should those devils be kept so long with food and shelter ? Let them starve in their home nests !
27. to # 19

29. How about the 2 soldiers with Hizbollah?
fadi ,   lebanon   (09.04.06)
Did Olmert and Peretz forget them !?? when was the last time we heard anyone talking about them ? For one prisoner 1400 will be released I wonder what will be the price that hizbollah will enforce on Israel !!! The days of Marwan Barghuti's imprisonment are getting shorter !!?? Your freedom is very close Marwan and with Nasrallahs all of the thousands other prosoners will be released :) Idiots
30. response to 26
maria ,   philippines   (09.04.06)
I'm not against Israel, my family and I support Israel and her people. I hope Israel will pray for their leaders rather than criticizing them. It's not easy to be in the leadership position , I'm sure if we're in their position ,we'll make mistake too, you know. It's seems to me, these muslims are really world trouble makers. It's unbelievable and unfair for the jewish people, releasing these palestinian criminals in exchange of kidnapped soldiers(soldiers who did not commit crimes). Why not just bring them back to their families. But these Palestinians criminals should remain in prisons ......they might join the hezbollahs if they be released.Nazrallah is very tricky, I tell you.
