1. It was the "occupation" of Judea and Samaria that drove him
Christian Bianrossa   (09.11.06)
This "occupation" excuse for murder could work both ways ,you know. Of course I think these acts of murder are disgusting and he should be thrown in jail for life. However, I just wanted to point out how ridiculous it is to explain or make excuses for vicious murders. "Occupation" is not an excuse for murder and the Palestinians cannot be excused for it nor can this murderer.
2. We should do with him what Arabs do with their terrorists
Aaron ,   Jerusalem   (09.11.06)
Release him, give him a stipend, and a cushy job in our security forces.
3. Life sentence, RIGHT NOW.
Bechor   (09.11.06)
If he gets anything less, I will be OFFNEDED. This man is NO BETTER than Muslim extremists. In fact, since he belongs to a country that respects the SANCTITY OF LIFE, I think he is WORSE than them. People like him make me sick. May he spend the rest of his life in prison.
4. This Nutter
Craig ,   Western Australia   (09.11.06)
Lock this nutter up and throw away the key for a very long time, there is no place in Israeli life for these type of persons, show face to save face !!
5. (# 2) I agree I am tired of left's double talk and double st
tired ,   miami   (09.11.06)
6. Give this animal five life sentences
Michael Steiner   (09.11.06)
7. Israel proves once again its values
Mikulas ,   Bratislava, Slovakia   (09.11.06)
This man is a Jewish terrorist. Good for Israel that it proves to the world that it is a democratic State with principles. Number 2 and Number 5, we take note of your unreligious attitude. If you would believe in G-d, you would be better people.
8. Asher pushed back!
Yithak ,   Shevut Rachel   (09.11.06)
Fact: according to most surveys, well over 70% of ALL arabs inside ,AND out of Yesha, support terrorism. They of course reffer to it as "resistance" activities. Setting aside their semi-justified claims of economic/political/social oppression, these people fully justify and support the wanton targeting of women, and children as LEGITIMATE targets. This is sick, no matter how you cut it. In no way can one compare an F-16's collateral dammage (accidental civilian casualties), with a bus bombing. The pathetic excuse given for these abominations, is that they lack similar strategic weapons. Fact is, it's far easier to terrorise civilians, than to to take on fully armed troops. When arabs continue to kill and mutilate our children over & over again with no end in sight, when arabs bomb our schools, playgrounds, and cafees, and then dance gleefully in their streets afterwards it changes one's perspective somewhat. Even If peace were possible, far to much inocent blood has been spilt for most of us to live side by side with these people. You see, you can only push people so far before they turn and push back. Asher pushed back.
9. #8 You may be right
Bechor   (09.11.06)
But that does not pardon him. He is a murderer and belongs with the others of his kind - both Arab and Jewish, in a prison cell.
10. Why would belief in God make him better?
Aviel ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (09.11.06)
There's no reason why belief in God would make anyone better. The prohibition of not murdering is as strong in atheists as in religious. In fact, history has shows us that people too involved with religion or ideaology more often find "reasons" to justify killing, despite commandments against. In Judaism it's particularly troubling since this commandment, as understood by the Rabbis, isn't universal and applies only to the Jewish people. Not to murder means not to murder a Jew, a non-Jew is NOT included. Of course there are other reasons in Judaism why the killing of non-Jews isn't allowed, but the source is not one of the 10 commandments.
11. the little terrorist
john, from jordan   (09.11.06)
Had this been a Palestinian he would have been labeled a terrorist.
12. 11. Most Israelis did
NL ,   Israel   (09.11.06)
Read articles about the incident at the time. Pretty much all Israelis, including religious Jews from settlements, condemned the attack, most of them labeling it as terror. This is a far different phenomenon from Palestinians and Arab leadership who insist on calling Palestinian terrorists 'resistance' or 'freedom fighters' when they target babies.
13. Secular Terrorist
Danny ,   Dimona   (09.11.06)
Strange how the article forgets to mention that he was a completely Secular Jew when he committed the murder (like most convicted murderers in Israel). Only afterwards did he don religious garb.
14. To No. 13, Danny
NYC Girl   (09.11.06)
The degree of religiosity doesn't necessarily determine who is capable of murder and who isn't. It merely changes the motive.
15. Hopefully he will actually go to jail.
(09.11.06)
Most Israelis who murder Palestinians are only charged with crimes for show and PR. In past cases Israel has charged settlers with murder, to show the world that they have a fair justice system, but then do not actually punish those accused, showing that they treat Palestinians blood as less than worthy of justice. They may have charged him will murder, but will he actually be punished for it? Past cases show that Israel gives little more than a slap on the hand to these murderers, by giving them only a month or so in prison to pay for murder. Hopefully this guy will be given a life sentence.
16. revolting
Joshua ,   USA   (09.11.06)
To many Israelis he is a hero, to others he is an unprovoked criminal, but to the rest of the world he is a revolting and hateful man.
17. stat's authorized arming of settlers =a state with a state
observer   (09.11.06)
another example of semi-official extajudicial execuation.
18. What is the origin of "unjust violence"?
observer   (09.11.06)
The defense lawyer ; " not only think about himself and his family, but about the entire nation, and carry out an act of self-sacrifice in order to prevent the disaster." The magic sentence said by the defense betrayed the covert thoughts of the Israelis. The meaning is that he opted to commit suicide to defend the interests of his people. By anyone's standards, he is not different from other suicidal bombers. But actually, he did not took his life and he is still alive, because he values only his own life!!; not others. He is almost certain he would get a lenient punishment, because the state gave him the gun, the hatred, and the support. Your acts give him and other suicide bombers more than a reason to commit other copied atrocities.
19. pushing back
Jimmy Havok ,   Honoulu, USA   (09.13.06)
Even If peace were possible, far to much inocent blood has been spilt for most of us to live side by side with these people. You see, you can only push people so far before they turn and push back. Somehow, you fail to realize that Israel is not the victim, that the Palestinians are the victims, and of course they are "pushing back." Asher was the insanity of Israel written small.
