5. Does anyone want peace?
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God"...Jesus. It is sad, yet amazing to watch Revelation prophecy come true. The Church's martyr's will be given white robes.
It really doesn't have to be this way. There is ample room for everyone in the Middle East. Why blood? Why not peace?
Support the "Red to Dead" project! Jordan and Israel are studying how to pump Red Sea water to the Dead Sea. It is an idea with great potential! Sea water can be taken at the port of Aqaba, pumped over the Sinai, flow downhill to the Dead Sea. Solar powered saltwater desalinization plants can provide fresh water for new settlements in the desert, a hydro-electric plant at the "bottom of the hill" can supply electricity to all and power the saltwater pumps system. Water can be released into the Dead Sea to revive it's failing tourist industry.
It's a good idea and far better than blowing each other up!

Hello..
I appreciate your will of peace..
but how could anyone support the "Red to Dead" project when there is a Dead to more Dead project planned by Israel all the time??
Jordan and Israel are planning on reviving their tourism.. but may I ask you what will revive the starving people of Palestine??

If you only had a brain. Take some of that $30 Billion Arafat stashed away and feed the Arab populace, Actually, that money given to the alleged Palistinians via Arafat was for such needs. But lowlifes like you tend not to want the Palistinain Arabs to fare well. Then where would your racist Anti-Jew movement be? Why would you want an Arab and Jewish partnership, in peace, to happen. which would help feed hungry people , by the way.
Could you care less about the Arab poor?

18. Hello, Lynne!
You like to ask questions hard for me to answer. I can't tell you what Israel will do. I understand Jordan wants this water project more than Israel. Nations must work with the resources they have. Lynne, the good news is that the Middle East has abundant supplies of natural resources!
My hope would be resettlement to new communities that will spring up because of the new supply of fresh water. Plus more electricity to power new industies (jobs). The North American continent has arid lands just as dry as the Middle East. With irrigation and good land management, the Imperial Valley of California supplies vast quanities of food. People there live good lives. If it can be done there, it can be done in the Middle East, too.
The bigest question I would ask is this: Can Arabs as a whole build an economy the world would envy? Everything you need is right there!

There should be no one starving in Palestine. Over the years millions and millions of dollars have been sent to aid the Palestinian & Arab peoples.
I can not help but notice all the shiny new weapons, uniforms, flags and banners displayed in the photos of Hamas, Hezbullah, etc. Is this what the aid money was spent on?
In the study of economics, there is the "Guns to Butter" equation. Which is it better for a nation to do, produce guns for war, or butter to feed it's people? As long as people in power chose to spend resources for war, poor people will suffer.
There is not enough space here to speak in detail about what I would do if I had the power to stop people from starving. I would start by convincing people to do a "paradigm shift". That is, to think about these problems in a new and different way. Being financially broke is a temproary condition of the pocket-book. Povery is a condition of the mind.
The Middle East has almost everything it needs to transform it's regional economy into a powerhouse. What it lacks, it can purchase with petro-dollars. The "Red to Dead" water project excites me because it could serve as a shining example for what peolpe could do.

I enjoy your postings and encourage you to keep pressing for peace. I am impressed by your gentile answers when people write harsh words to you. You turn the other cheek!
Now, about these starving people in Palistine. I have not seen any. My people survived the Great Depression in the Dust Bowl of the Great Plains. I know what malnurished, hungry people look like.
All the Palistinian leaders are fat! Nasrallah, Haniyeh, Abbas, all have fat, chubby faces. The last video I saw of Iraq's al-Sadr, he looked as fat as a pet hamster! If leaders are fat while their people starve, what does that say of their leadership?

1- I don't understand why you speak to me this way like I'm sharing Arafat's money!! you should say this to Madame Arafat not me!!
2- I am Not anti-Jewish!! don't put into my mouth things I never said.. I respect Judaism as a religion.. for me Judaism and Zionism are so different.. Judaism is God's message while Zionism is a political message..
3- I do want peace.. but peace is not only stopping war for a short time.. both sides should be very committed to this peace so that's why any peace project should deal with both sides equally.. (in every detail)..
4- As an Arab I don't see how you would care for the Arab poor more than me!! anyway I don't only care for the Arab poor.. I care about the world poor because we're all humans at the end and not just Arabs..
|
|
22. Sheikh yer Bu'Tay..
Now you're asking me a BIG question!!
"Can Arabs as a whole build an economy the world would envy?"
I wish I could be so optimistic about that.. I really wish.. but the reality says the opposite.. how can we dream of such a vast economy when we are living every day waiting for the next war to start?? there are high levels of poverty.. unemployment.. ignorence.. we don't have the goverments that could adopt any large economic projects..
most people are only trying to figure out a way just to feed their children and give them the least education they could get..
the natural resources you are mentioning are either exported to the more developed West as they are .. while we later import them as ready made goods and we pay more than double their starting price.. for no reasons but because there is no one in the ME to manufacture them!! or.. natural resources are used up by European and American companies..
either way.. the people get nothing.. all profits are stolen by the "governments and Co."
|
|
23. #19 Sheikh yer Bu'Tay..
first of all.. let me start with this..
statistics on daily US assistance to Israel and the Palestinians..
the US gives $15,139,178 pper day to the Israeli government and military.. and $232,290 per day to Palestinian NGO's ....
Demolitions of Israeli and Palestinian homes..
0 Israeli homes have been demolished by Palestinians while 4,170 Palestinian homes have been demolished by Israel since September 29, 2000..
and now since Hamas government had been DEMOCRATICALLY elected by Palestinians they have been cut from financial aid.. even some Arab Gulf countries have cut their aid to Palestinians!!
they were rallying for getting their salaries no more..
as for spending their aid money on weapons.. they have every right to do this!! Israel is recieving the "shiniest" weapons from the US and using them on Paletinians.. how could you accept this for Israel while deny it for Palestinians?? there is a huge military gap between Israel and Hamas or Hezbollah.. who has the helicopters?? who has nuclear technology?? who has F16s?? who has the buldozers?? please.. let's at least try to be fair and take things from both sides.. the reason we were never able to achieve peace is because we justify for one side what we deny for the other side..
you ask them to feed their people and not buy weapons.. what is the use of saving their people from hunger when they couldn't save them from Israeli weapons??
"Being financially broke is a temproary condition of the pocket-book. Povery is a condition of the mind. "
very well said.. I congratulate you on this thought.. but it's easy for you to say this.. reality says quite the opposite.. someone who is under siege and not given his salary would hate his own children and you expect him to give them an education .. a rich mind.. and all that which does not surpass being mottos we're good at reciting all day..
|
|
24. Sheikh yer Bu'Tay .. #20
thank you.. I don't usually like to turn my debates into personal comments.. since we might all not like each others thoughtsbut I don't think we should hate each other in person!!
of course I wouldn't call the Palestinians as suffering from malnutrition.. I don't think they have yet reached upto this extent..
I am quite aware of the suffering people in other parts of the world.. unfortunately there are many.. but I think this is another matter which I think should gain more international support.. financially and through media..
as for chubby leaders.. LOL.. I think we ought to sue every chubby leader!!

25. Lynne, 22,23,24
It appeared like Israel was doing the rigth thing when it withdrew from Lebanon and Gaza. It was planning to do the same thing with the West Bank. I know there were complaints that the West Bank withdrawl was a land grab, yet it appeared to me as progress to peace.
One of Hamas' second tier leaders (I wish I could remember his name) wrote an excellent editorial complaining about how some loose cannon will always provoke Israel into action, and then the cycle of violence starts all over. There was great wisdom in what he said. If we could somehow stop the provocations on both sides, the violence would stop.
Governments held-back their aid money to force Hamas into recognizing Israel's right to exist
I am as powerless as you are in stopping Israel from bulldozing a Palistinian olive grove or home.
That is why I feel lasting peace for Arabs must be built by Arabs. It will come from outside of Israel. They are building fences to be left alone. They want to withdraw from the West Bank. To isolate themselves. So, do just that! Turn your backs to them.
Many times in the last fifty years the Arab World has united to make war on Israel. War does not work. Arabs will destroy themselves as they destroy Israel.
Instead, what will bring about lasting peace for Arabs is a UNITED ARAB ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT MOVEMENT.
Think about the European Union. Europe was once the economic trade giant of the world. Then Europe destroyed itself with WW1 & WW2. It has learned it's lesson and does not wish to go to war again. It has worked for them, it will work for you.
I am not saying it will be easy, but it will work. Once the world realizes what you are doing, investors will come running to get in on a piece of the action!

26. Lynne, an idea for you...
I own a small construction business. There are many larger construction business around me. They have powerful advertizing budgets I can only dream of. How do I survive in the marketplace? By doing certain things better than they do! I get my customers to see there is Greater Value in dealing with me than dealing with one of the giants. These happy customers then brag to their friends how well I took care of them. And their friends call me! For two years running now, I cannot possibly take care of all the call-ins I get, and now have to turn people away.
Think! How can you apply this to your situation? For example: What do the Saudis import from Denmark? They do not want to deal with the Danes anymore, so what Danish product can your people produce? Maybe your production costs are a little more at first. The Greater Value you give your customers is that you are taking business from the Danes! Who will support your products just for that satisfaction? Will they pay a little more for that privledge? Can you see how a "Buy Arab Products" campaign would work?
Think of the purchasing power you and your people have! Is there an imported product your people can go to and say something like this: "We will continue to buy from you ONLY if your product is now made in a plant built on our soil, with workers from our country". India has been doing this for years, look how they have grown.
If I could prevent WW3 from happening by such economic developments, I would gladly do so!

27. 25..Sheikh yer Bu'Tay
first of all I believe I should thank you for showing this amount of concern in this dilemma the Arab world is facing..
Israel did not withdraw from Lebanon and Gaza as a gesture of peace.. this was perfectly clear for all.. if Israel wanted peace with Lebanon they would have withdrawn from Sheba'a farms and returned the Lebanese prisoners.. Hezbollah had made it clear that if Israel does this Hezbollah will be ready to disarm.. and regarding Palestine.. the Palestinian government, including Hamas have asked Israel to withdraw to the '67 borders.. Israel refuses to do so.. the problem is that it's hard to stop the provocations on both sides.. the Lebanese and Palestinians have tried over and over again to ask Israel to return the prisoners through peace without having to kidnap any Israelis.. but it never worked.. not one prisoner was ever freed except by prisoner exchange..
if there are no serious attempts for peace between both sides then it will not work.. I have lost hope just as most of us in the ME have in any peace taking place with Israel..
Israel did not withdraw from Lebanon until after it had completely destructed the Lebanese infrastructure.. everytime Lebanon starts to flourish again Israel finds a new excuse to destruct it..
how could Hamas recognize Israel when Israel does not recognize Palestine!! Israelis even believe that there is nothing called Palestinians!!
no negotiations whatsoever took place with Hamas.. the government of Hamas was not given the chance to even present its political plan.. it was boycotted.. the Palestinians stopped recieving aid which had left the government bankrupt and unable to pay them their salaries.. if that was the way the international community would pressure Hamas to recognize Israel ie. by starving the Palestinians.. then I think I should say that with such low governments we should all bid any piece process goodbye!!
they are building fences to be left alone ..yes.. but do they leave others alone?? the fences you refer to have caused Palestinian villages to be torn apart.. it had ruined their lands.. it stopped them from being able to get to their jobs and lands!! when you want to be left alone do you lock the dorr to your room or do you lock the door to your house and leave your family outside so that you could be left alone!!
if they really wanted to isolate themselves they would have been welcome to do this.. when they withdrew fom Gaza they only withdrew to the borders of Gaza while keeping the people there under blockade.. actually they are isolating the Palestinians not themselves!!
the Arab wars never worked because there were always the collaborators like Jordan.. and now some Arab leaders are recieving millions from the US in order to stay on their thrones and keep their mouths shut! and it is working..
|
|
28. the rest of it.. #25..
as for a united Arab Economic Development Movement.. most of us really dream of doing what the EU had done.. I really respect them in that.. but again with the current Arab regimes still ruling we could not do that.. they couldn't make an Arab summit without arguing... they are shameful..
now you'd say why should you tolerate such leaders?? do as they did in Ukraine and other parts of the world.. I should answer you that now after witnessing what happened in Iraq we could not but lign up with our leaders even with their faults!! thanks to America again!! in Egypt they have tried to rally and have decent votes.. what did they get? they were put to jail!! what was amazing is the fact that the US government did not jump to say that Mubarak is a dictator and that Egyptians should democratically choose their leader.. because simply Mubarak is pro-Israeli.. who cares if his people hate him??
but with all that there are serious attempts now from many Arab businessmen to try and manufacture local products.. but it's still on a very small scale.. since many of them find it crazy to invest their money in a war region.. so I think that as long as there is no political stability it's hardd to achieve economic stability.. and for political stability we could not turn our back to Israel since it is the other side in any peace process..
|
|
29. #26.. Sheikh yer Bu'Tay..
I really like your idea..
in the Arab world there are local made products but they are more than primary products
in the Arab World we have the raw materials for more important products but we do not have the technology or the knowledge to use them.. this is why we export the raw materials in cheap prices and import them as finished products with more than double those prices..
for examle.. cars, electrical supplies etc..
as for this "Buy Arab Products" campaign it exists but its not strong enough..
as for WW3.. I think it's already happening.. history repeates itself again.. but I wonder this time since now more countries have nuclear energy... Will anybody survive to tell about it??

30. Lynne
I offer ideas for economic growth. I see this as your sure-fire path to prosperity, and prosperity will get you peace. You ask for polictical solutions for a lasting peace with Israel. If I knew of any fool-proof "political" solution to end this madness, I could sell it and become a Billionaire overnight!! Instead, I would gladly give it away just to be able to one day play with my grandchildren, knowing that they will one day play with their grandchildren in peace.
There is one tool I can give you that is very, very powerful. I could tell it to you right now, but I'm not sure you and the Arab people are ready for it.
There are many power brokers in the ME. They all jockey for more attention to get more power. Sometimes they tell the truth, sometimes they play very artfull games of deception.
You mentioned a prisoner exchange. Okay, let's have one. Hizbullah wants Samir Quntar. Will you give him to them? Okay, I will give you Quntar in exchange for Danny Haran. You want Sultan Al-Ajaluni? Okay, I get Danny's girls, Einat & Yael, in exchange for al-Ajaluni. Deal? No, no deal, because you can't deliver the Harans. They were murdered by Quntar. That is why Quntar must spend the rest of his life in prison for murder. But you might say "Quntar's mission into Israel was justified to take revenge for ________ offense Israel did!" Then, Israel will say "Wait! That was for _________ offense so and so did!" Back and forth it would go. Back to 1948, to 1923, to 1916. When will it end?
Let's negotiate. What will you give me in exchange for peace? What will you do to one day see your children's children play in the warm sunshine of happiness?
