31. Todays press relase from Ms Shomrat
Isak ,   Norway   (09.26.06)
PRESS RELEASE – Embassy of Israel, 26 September 2006 It is with great dismay that I have perceived that certain answers of mine to questions concerning the shooting at the Synagogue, Sunday a week ago, have been presented in the media as criticism of His Majesty the King. I would like to emphasize that it is far from me to do such a thing. At no time did I intend to criticize nor did I criticize Their Majesties King Harald and Queen Sonja or the Royal Family. I deeply regret if this was the impression created in the media. A clarification along these lines has been sent by me to be transmitted to the Royal Household. Miryam Shomrat Ambassador of Israel

While I do not hate myself, either as a person or a Jew, I have the greatest contempt for Jews like you, who spew out your hatred against others who do not think like you. You are such an ignoramus that you haven't the first idea how to conduct a civilized debate without being personally offensive.
33. The issue
Simen ,   Oslo, Norway   (09.26.06)
You may say whatever you wish, but the truth of the matter is that the Israeli ambassador really made a big fool out of herself. One would assume that the objective of making a statement on Norwegian television by an Israeli ambassador would be to stimulate support for Isreal or support for the issues important to Norwegian Jews. A good diplomat is expected to have studied the social conventions of their host state. By violating one of the few Norwegian cultural taboos (politicized public critizism of the royal family) she has probably become the subject of many a joke in Norwegian diplomatic circles. Even the aide to the secretary to the ambassador from Azerbajdjan or Peru probably knew that such critizism is "no-no". You probably have to live here (or in a comparable monarchy - like Britain, Denmark or Sweden) to fully comprehend the magnitude of the blunder. Since I am personally very supportive of Isreal, my immediate reaction when I heard her statement on the news was comparable to how you feel as a parent when your kid loudly shouts: "Dad why is that woman so incredibly fat?" But I also felt anger, because I didn't expect the Israeli ambassador to act like a kid. Not only did her statements probably hurt the cause of both Norwegian Jews and Israel, but she also displayed a clear lack of understanding of Norwegian culture. Very sad.
34. Priorities
George ,   Atlanta, GA   (09.26.06)
Just think about what it comes down to. These clowns are not in a least concerned with the hordes of vandals they brought in their country - not until their Jews are gone and they turn after the Royals themselves. They could care less about the Ambassador being slated for beheading - big deal! But to point out the obvious (in a very soft way, by the way) - these people are dhimmies - oh, no. Way over the line. Right.
35. Hello WC from W #23
Saul ,   Barcelona   (09.26.06)
You have a pretty good image of the region, except that's the Arab part. Israel is a beautiful, peaceful, green country, with mountains, deserts, modern cities, spa resorts, artist villages, miles of great beaches, lakes, rivers, one of the world's highest standards of living, and one of the best education and healthcare systems. There is history literally seeping out of every stone. There is a dizzying mix of cultures, east and west, Europe and Africa, intertwining in infinite patterns. It is a vibrant multi-ethnic, multi-racial, society where all citizens are free to worship any religion and enjoy full civil rights. All of this, while being surrounded by hostile neighbors and constantly under attack. Once again, WC from W, you prove yourself not too worldly. For someone calling yourself World Citizen from the World you need to see a lot more of the world.
36. #32 well said!
Rustum ,   London, UK   (09.26.06)
37. #23 "World Citizen" the answer is simple
USA   (09.26.06)
In any country where Jews are too afraid to speak up because of worries about violent retaliation from Muslims ---always a given--or inaction and passivity from the host government--read dhimmitude--then it is time for them to emigrate to a place where they can feel free speak out without fear being attacked. They can come here to America or go to Israel, it does not matter. And unlike the Muslim underclass living in Norway and other European countries, they don't need to stay to live off the handouts from the Europeans.
38. Criticism ?!
David ,   Israel   (09.26.06)
It is with great dismay and pain to notice that a sincere plea from the part of our ambassador in Norway to read, observe or hear some form of empathy from the royal family was turned into a real public, journalistic lynch. I certainly DO believe that our ambassador had all the right in the world to kindly expect words of empathy and encouragement from the royal family towards their humiliated and endangered Jewish subjects in Oslo. Had these words been expressed, they would have certainly confered the above mentioned family more credibility and popularity in our eyes and others, as well. Haven't you noticed that the ambassador has never mentioned her personal close call, namely, being earmarked for Islamic execution by beheading ? Truly, is this 21st century modern and highly elevated behaviour to execute, let alone behead ? Now, the feeble behaviour of the Jewish leader in Oslo is somehow understandable. She has a lot to learn about leadership and standing up for the lives of your fellow Jews and for your civic rights is a good first lesson for her.
39. #37 Apparently Norwegian Jews Aren't Afraid to Speak
World Citizen ,   the world   (09.26.06)
Your ambassor surely did. And the Jews in Norway can too. And like you in America they can do as they please. They live well. So stop preaching delusional paranoia to the jewish masses. And quit projecting zionist hatred and contempt of the world onto the rest of humanity. And we are human, no matter what your sacred texts say.
40. To #33 - Simen of Norway
(09.26.06)
Dear Simen, It is again sad ( just to use your concluding word) to see that no one from your country has really gotten a grip on the true size of the problem and seriousness regarding the recent terrorist attack which was directed against the local Jewish citizens in your capital city. I still believe that you did not comprehend the human size of the situation if you come up with your country's policies instead of truly analyzing and understanding the situation. Just so you know, any human life ( including Norwegian Jews and the Israeli ambassador's) has priority over any "danger" of diplomatic blunder. I hope, you as a supporter of Israel, will finally come to terms with this simple logical reasoning. Good luck from David
41. Jewes in Norway
Talaga ,   Philippines   (09.26.06)
Jews are so integratet in Norway and are widely accepted. Two of my best classmates in Oslo where Jews. That Miryam Shomrat critecise the Royal Norwegian family is probably because she where angry or afraid. We norwegians have forgiven that statement already. Anyway I will hope that people will treat The Norwegian Royal Family with a little bit more respect in the future, because they deserve it.
42. WC from W #39
Saul ,   Barcelona   (09.26.06)
Hey, WC from W, on behalf of the Jewish masses I want to thank you for saving us fom the delusional preaching and the projected Zionist hatred, as expressed in post #37. WC from W, have you actually been anywhere in the world? Read any books? I have been observing, and commenting on your self-righteous drivel for a couple of months now, and have my serious doubts. I have yet to see an articulate argument, source or reference, or a single piece of concrete information in any of your ravings. Just unimaginative, banal, ugly anti-Jewish chauvinism, barely disguised as (self)righteous indignation. Respect

The royal families do not make political statements, according to the agreement with the royals and the parliament. It is stupid to expect the royal family to show signs of care and compassion every time something happens, even if they were up 24/7 they would not manage to do that. and even royals need their beauty sleep. And yes, it is inappropriate when another countrys officials not only interferes in anothers internal matters, but also lashes out at the royals - the royal family is popular in Norway, they will take it as an attack on the entire country. Let me ask you, how do you know the norwegian society hasn't produced the outpouring of support and compassion from every level of the goverment, as well as numerous religious and social organizations, including many muslims in the aftermath of these shootings? You obviously have not been reading Norwegian media. I can really not recall anything like that happening in Seattle, really. they did less than the norwegians, and in Norway no one even died. so suck on that, EU-leeching spaniard.
44. Wrong address
Andrew ,   Oslo, Norway   (09.27.06)
The people here who do not understand WHY the King does not respond should know that he´s only a figurehead. The government DID express sympathy and visited the temple. The King is bound NOT to talk politics. He NEVER talks about politics. He would NOT comment on a Mosque attack. The ambassador cannot request him to break the Constitutional rules. The Government did their job! The ambassador is a fool!
45. To 40.
Simen ,   Oslo, Norway   (09.27.06)
But we do, and we have. Both the prime minister, the foreign minister and the minister of justice made public statements in condemnation of the attackers and in support of the jewish community after the attempted attacks and also gave their promise that the security measures provided to the Israeli embassy and the Mosaic church would be further strengthened. The minister of justice even participated in community activities on the following day. The security measures at the embassy are already totally off the scale by Norwegian standards. Norwegian police have established a semi-permanent police station in the driveway in order to provide round-the-clock protection. The reason why the attack was foiled was partly due to eavesdropping devices picking up conversations in a passing car about the planned attacks. In my opinion the recent turn of events could actually have been a pivotal moment for turning the sentiment in the Norwegian population in a favourable direction towards focus and greater understanding of the VERY REAL threats that Isrealis are faced with both at home and in excile. Norwegians have as of the last decade gradually become convinced that Israelis are agressors suppressing a defenceless minority of palestinians, rather than a recilient minority defending itself from hostilities supported and backed by most of the arab/muslim world. The "we-experience-peace-every-single-day-Norwegians" have a hard time fully absorbing what it means to be a party in such a conflict, and definitely do not understand the tough decisions that Israeli leaders sometimes have to make. I therefore find it very sad that the ambassador managed to mock up the athmosphere by making an amateurish insult the Royal family. It was just embarassing. Hopefully the press release/total retraction of all critizism which was tonight will suffice as an apology. To make absolutely sure that I know what I am talking about, I went to the website of the royal family and did a quick browse-through of publicly available speaches by the king. I guess the most controversial thing I found was that the King uttered vague support for the continued Norwegian empasis on backing the United Nations as a means to deal with international issues. If you are EXTREMELY biased you will of course say that this means he is an anti-semite since the UN have passed resolutions condemning Israel... ... but I don't think so :-) By the way: One of the people known to have been closest friends to our former King Olav is Jo Benkow. A great man (and a jew). Read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jo_Benkow
46. Backing the UN?
George ,   Atlanta, GA   (09.27.06)
That will show them, vandals. We had the Iranian Hitler and South American Mussolini on its podium the other day - so the Jews can sleep well, I gather. What a joke. I got three words for you: Dhimmies of Eurabia. Be proud of your true identity.

48. To Saul in #35 and #42
World Citizen ,   the world   (09.27.06)
Your description of Israel is charming ..... but full of irony. It is easy for an Israeli to pour money into a home or business when the Israeli government paid nothing for the property. Everything an Israeli builds or grows was done on stolen Palestinian land. Your beautiful lakes, rivers and streams are on Syrian land in the Golan Heights. The beautiful olive tree in someone's garden was dug up out of a Palestinian farmer's grove. The Jewish only roads and trails were paid for by duped American taxpayers. Israel is a beautiful mirage. Underneath it is an illusion, an evil magicians trick. Poor jews line up to get out. They go anywhere they can to get a decent job. Just read the posts of the Israeli citizens in this very thread. Even jews from Russia, of all places, are returning to Russia for better opportunities. Face it, the zionist dream is a failure. The zionists only want those with money in their pockets to spend or young backs to fight their wars or do their meanial tasks. Finally Saul I might ask you, if Israel is the paradise you claim why are you not living there? I mean with all the anti-Semitism in Europe surely you must see the benefits?

So let us see if the gatekeepers will do it now. Here are several about the ethnic cleansing done by zionists in pre and post 1948. http://www.ifamericansknew.org/history/50s.html http://www.palestineremembered.com/Haifa/al-Tantura/Story560.html http://www.passia.org/palestine_facts/MAPS/UN_Partition_recommendation_Nov_1947.htm http://www.ifamericansknew.org/history/50s.html http://umkahlil.blogspot.com/2005/09/zionist-and-palestinian-land-ownership.html http://umkahlil.blogspot.com/2006/01/all-i-want-is-my-god-given-rightto-go.html And forget about telling me all the lands jews were tossed out of. Most of the time it was the zionists bombing synagogues to scare the jews into aliyah. Like what happened in Iraq. The world is tired of zionist lies and duplicity to justify their slow genocide of the Palestinian people. Note to the gatekeepers. It is interesting to see what you will let in and what you keep out. Not even half of my posts are published. Of those, the ones with links about Israeli history are almost certain to be banned. Why are you so frightened to let the average Israeli citizen learn the truth?
50. #39 talk about delusional paranoia!
37's rebuttal to 39 ,   USA   (09.27.06)
After slavery in Egypt, twice being exiled, surviving the Inquisition and the Holocaust, how can you act surprised that people would worry just a bit when their places of holy worship are YET AGAIN torched, desecrated and vandalized by a bunch of violent thugs? Nobody said that you weren't human, even if the actions of some Muslims in Norway have been insensitive, barbaric and unacceptable. You obviously have quite an agenda going on in your head if all you understood from my comment was contempt for "the rest" of humanity. I didn't mention any people other than the ones who are most likely responsible for causing all the trouble for Jews lately, and your rebuttal to my comment shows you are in solidarity with the troublemakers who perpetrate these vicous attacks on other people's places of holy worship (yes, that includes Christians too!) The epithet you have given yourself "Citizen of the World" would more accurately reflect your agenda if you changed your name to "Prisoner of the Mind." Now go outside and take a breath of fresh air. You need it.
51. #43 provide concrete proof please
USA   (09.27.06)
I don't believe you when you say there was an outpouring of concern after this incident, expecially from Muslims, who were the perpetrators. To convince me otherwise, please provide a link to some media reports on the incident condemning the incident and showing support for the Jewish community that suffered the attack. Also, your remark directed at #42 was a low blow. What point do you make by insulting others? Shame on you!
52. The ambassador apologized already
(09.27.06)
for the comment and for not fully understanding how the Norwegians interpret their constitution. However, no one should be above judgement, no matter what their standing. If the Royal family is as popular as you lead us to believe, then their opinion matters, right? I just don't get the notion that the Royal family is above it all. Here in America, we rank on Bush all the time. Popular or not, a country that cannot criticize its leaders is NOT truly a democracy.
53. Simen in Oslo, thank you for explaining
Appreciate the facts ,   USA   (09.27.06)
I am not totally biased and appreciate your explaining and providing facts to convince me of your argument. Unfortunately, too many people who post comments on this website present only raw emotions and insults and fail to prove why their opinions should matter. Thanks again.

So a compassionate New Year message is a political statement? Well, I am glad that Norwegian Royals don't lose any beauty sleep over it. Hey, calling me a EU-leaching Spaniard? Right up there with your earlier "fatass yanks" jem. You are just an all-round equal opportunity chauvinist, aren't you? Posting my messages from Barcelona, I could tell you a few things my Catalan friends would have to say about being called EU-leeching Spaniards, but I have something better for you. Show us your full ability and try to come up with one for a Russian-born American Jew in Catalonia. Have fun and good night! I'll check your homework tomorrow.

Many of those are about the diplomatic faux pa by the amassadeur but the incident recived widespread attention befor that.

I am not so familiar with USA's history (i guess you are not talking about the American continent), but did you have a revolution against tour royal family? Interesting. Anyways, you apparently doesnt have a clue how a kingdom works. The royal family is not political and should therefore not have a official opinion on polotical issues.
