david ,   gush etzion   (09.28.06)
my dear peres i don"t know how you do it but it seems you have eternal life. Not that that has made you any wiser, you keep on hammering on your old ideas. You still do not get it , with your western values and arrogance. You are not dealing with rational people. You realy believe that people that blow themselves up and glorify death are not going to blow up a building that could improve their lives. The only thing that feeds them is hatred. You might live another 100 years but you will never get it.If you would stop sprouting your opinion everywere, maybey you can realy hear what the arabs are saying.THEY HATE US AND WANT TO DESTROY US.You whos background is good old europe and witnessed our friend hitler, did not learn a danm thing. You are blinded by your own ego,so maybey shimon you can work on teshuva in these 10 days. And be a true voice of the jewish nation.
2. STEP 1: STOP USING THE TERM "WEST BANK"
ANDREW ,   MIAMI   (09.28.06)
JUDEA JUDEA AND SAMARIA ANYTHING ELSE - AND YOU'RE SIMPLY VALIDATING THE FALSE NOTION OF THEFT HEBRON IS THE BIRTHPLACE OF JUDAISM - IT IS NOT "OCCUPIED" BY ISRAEL - IT IS RECLAIMED THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT POINT THIS IS WHERE ISRAEL HURTING ITSELF
3. HALELUYA !!!
(09.28.06)
BUILD BUILD BUILD !!! IN YOUR FACE PALS !! ;-b
4. Peres
Michael ,   Haifa   (09.28.06)
What a complete idiot ! He does not see the connection between settlements over the 1967 borders and Palestinian violence.
5. settlements
Ian ,   London   (09.28.06)
Is Israel punishing the Plaistinins by building more homes in west bank? What has that got to do with Qassams? The truth is the settlements have been a punishment to Israel for more than 30 years now. While fighting for its security and safety Israel should also learn how to say NO to its settlers who drain it financially and morally.
6. I'm not one of Peres' fans
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (09.28.06)
But finally he said something real. Judea and Samaria need to accomodate more and more of these families. Io"sh needs them, they need io"sh. We all need it , it's ours and G-d willing for ever. Pru u'rvu ushvu et haarets
7. the birthplace of judaism
andy ,   brooklyn   (09.28.06)
andrew: what are you doing in miami? unless you think that's the birthplace of judaism.
8. #7 you're right!
Ricardo ,   Porto Alegre, Brazil   (09.28.06)
I've ever heard that the future of Israel is the NEGEV, not the territories. Why settlers aren't moved to Negev since there are planty of slots to be occupied there?
9. #3 Ok, build the settlements... but you should assume...
John ,   USA   (09.28.06)
Assume the Palestinians, Hamas, Hezbullah, Syria, and the rest of the Muslim world will never accept it. Assume Abbas has little or no power to release Shalit, that the PA is so fractionalized and corrupt now that they have a hard time doing much of anything. Assume your vision of an economic cooperation project will lead to failure. Assume anything remotely linked to Israel is a target of Al Qaida. Do not assume terror groups would avoid it, they didn't in Iraq. "BUILD BUILD BUILD !!! IN YOUR FACE PALS !! ;-b" No buddy, in your face because I don't live there. It's the Israelis that need to worry. Maybe you should just ethnically clense the whole of Palestine, instead of the half assed BS of shooting them and then providing a band aid. It didn't work for the US in Vietnam either. Good luck with your cluster-f**k you got going. I'll try to undermine US support because you guys are nuts and I don't want my tax dollars going to you.
10. These homes are being built in accordance with Ottoman law
(09.28.06)
11. We Will Continue To Build And Grow; G-d Willing
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (09.28.06)
With or without Peres' blessing. NOBODY will tell Jews that they cannot build or live where they want to. ESPECIALLY in OUR land.
12. more settlement will cause more terrorism
marwan ,   canada   (09.28.06)
the desperate actions of any people against unjustice is terrorism , remember french resistance in WWII , as long as israel will act in such ways where the arabs and palestinians feel it is violating their rights , terrorism will get increase . More settlement means more terrorisms .
13. ANDREW MIAMI
marwan ,   canada   (09.28.06)
according to your logic , the US should belong to the native americans and canada to the inuits australia to its local ... What about those who lived for centuries in this land , what about the golan , what about south lebanon ... are those places too birthplaces of judaism ? Who is more in right to claim the land : ethiopian falacha , eastern europeans ashkenase, north african sefarade or arab palestinian ?
14. #4
Jon ,   Oz   (09.28.06)
There is no greater connection than Jews living in Haifa for taht matter. As far as they are concertned you will have to go eventually too.

21. #7 Andy
KACH 613 ,   MEDENAT YEHUDA!!!!!   (09.28.06)
Do all Christens live in Bet Lechem? I hope he will come soon but he does not have to live in Chevron.
22. Peres is changing his mind?
Meir ,   Arad   (09.28.06)
The settlements will continue to grow despite Peres. Settlements will grow because Judaism is alive and well in Judea and Samaria. As for Peres himself, we do not trust you. Once a hooker, always a hooker. Get lost Peres, the sooner the better for Am Israel
23. Qassams
joe   (09.28.06)
***... Israel can't be punished twice, he says, referring to ongoing Qassam fire on Israel....*** Well, they are quite convenient, this "Qassams, arent they?? *** "It's very good…….Well, it's not good, but it will generate immediate sympathy (for Israel)"*** Former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the day of the 9-11 attacks. Woww...what would Israel do without this "tarrrrorists"!!!!
24. #14
Michael ,   Haifa   (09.28.06)
The difference being that I will fight for my right to be in Haifa and will also fight against settlers, whom I see as endangering (together with extremist Palestinians) my right to be in Haifa.
25. He has lost his mind!!!
Michael Steiner   (09.28.06)
How putting civilians in the midst of millions belonging to a hostile population will help defend Israel from Qasamim is beyond me. The settlements are nothing but an exorbitantly expensive scourge and liability of Israel and Jews worldwide.
26. Mr Peres....
Ramzi Sfeir ,   Palestine   (09.28.06)
Why are you wasting your life operating " the peres center for peace" when you preach war and talk about building settelments? you were not the one who supported sharon's disengagement till the last step? You were not the one who called for punishement of settlers? You were not one of the Oslo signatories? What about the part that talks about the status of the lands? You were not the one who wanted to sit and talk to the arabs when you went to elections against Bibi ? don't you remember this Famous picture of you with all the Arab leaders Holding hands...? you were not the one to fight for the survival of the Laborite idea of Peace ( Oslo) ? But again....you were the one who left labor for personal interests.....you are not a statesman, all you want is the Glory and you don't really care about the situtation in your country...i call for the Boycott of the Peres center for Peace and for the creation of a Peres Center for hypocrisy and war!
27. What is a homeland?
LeoP ,   Moscow   (09.28.06)
I was born in Uzbekistan, lived in Siberia, Moscow, Vienna, Rome, New York City, Los Angeles, New Jersey, and am now back in Moscow on business… I have remained in a constant state of departure while always arriving… so I don’t know… what is a homeland? Is it the ancestors buried underneath the soil (well then its Jewish land long before it was Arab land). Is it political boundaries (Israel was declared a state by the UN post WWII). Is it cultural identity (Jews have lived there long before Islam even became a religion or culture). Is it economic prosperity (Israelis created that economy, let them enjoy the fruits of their labor). Is it a need for land (is there not enough muslim land in the world?). Is it a political identity (Israel is politically different from every other country in that region, how are Palestinians different from Egyptians, Lebanese, Jordanians, Syrians, etc.) Is it a religious claim on that land (please don’t humor me). Do Palestinians feel they were kicked out of Israel once Jews arrived (the UN resolution calling for the creation of Israel ALSO called for a two-state creation, it was the arab rejection of this resolution that led to a downward spiral for the palis). Do you feel the land was stolen (you fought for it, you lost, they won… where else in history has the winning party given up what it fought for solely because the other side cries foul?)
28. Next Week....Shimon says...Re-disengage.
BJL ,   Appleland USA   (09.28.06)
Shimon is about as credible on Yesha as Abbas is about the holocaust. Next week he will order in the IDF to beat-up the "settlers" and bulldoze their homes.
29. Building in "settlements"
Meira ,   Israel   (09.28.06)
No body seems to have noticed that the Arab villages all over Judea and Samaria are doing a massive amount of new building in the last few years, not just the odd mosque or shopfront, but thousands of big new homes. I didnt hear any complaint about this urban sprawl (without planning permissions or international approval needed)
30. to nr 4 and 5
david ,   gush etzion   (09.28.06)
first of all michael those rockets on haifa did not wake you up,so there are more to follow, second you do not know your history very well. The arabs have been violent here for more then a 100 years. But you have been brainwashed by the israeli media or you spend your time watching kochav nolad,so guess who is the idiot. And for Ian it is easy to have a big mouth and not knowing anything about our history. For your information we are resetteling the land and frankly we do not give a damn about your opinions.Maybey start cleaning up your place with all its ills you arrogant pommy.
