1. You are right
Aaron Rabinovich ,   Canada   (10.04.06)
The peace is strategical for Israel .Israel need peace now before tomorrow ,the time is not in our side to continue manuvering .we should not wait till the entire Middle East become AlQuaed to start thinking how much we are trapped with oue dimagogy. We already tried Natanyaho once and he left the politic defeated with promise to do not come back. Liberman ,God forbid if he will be in power he is heading the entire region to the hell.Be awar this guy I know his agenda since the Russian time.Natanyaho-Liberman will bring the end of Israel .
2. Peres Brought war
Sam Weinstein ,   USA   (10.04.06)
Remember Oslo or was that a selective bit of senility. No there is no way Israel would accept Peres He is after peace for himself not for Israel and is prepared to sell out the security and borders of Israel for his next Nobel Peace Prize.
3. #1 And what has peace brought us?!?!
(10.04.06)
We gave up Jews homes for the arabs, we gave them greenhouses, what did they do? THEY TOR THEM DOWN Peace is only allowed when two partners want to accept each other now and forever and the arabs dont. Not every human being lives of bread and water, they live for a higher purpose. In the arabs case they live for killing Jews. WE DONT HAVE TO RESPECT THAT VIEW. IF THEY WANT TO MEET ALLAH, LETS BRING THEM TO ALLAH. The Time Will Come Whether You Want It Or Not The War Will Start and It Will End With A Victor And A Looser Am Yisrael Chai
4. Peres is worthless
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (10.04.06)
What did he ever do for Israel, other than bring death and destruction as the result of his obscenely stupid policies? He was never even elected to office, unlike Jimmy Carter who ruined the U.S.
5. He is right about olmert But deadwrong about Peres
Norman   (10.04.06)
Peres never won always a loser. If it wouldn't be for the left views espoused by the media we would have today a strong Israel. We would have Gush Katif, Sinai Oil fields training grounds for soldiers. Look at the poor Israel today could not even defeat 700 Hizballah men. I guess Peres would be the last nail in the coffin.
6. who's afraid of Bibi and Lieberman? only our enemies
Aaron ,   ra'anana   (10.04.06)
7. HOW MANY TIMES CAN ONE GO AROUND IN CIRCLES?!??!?!
(10.04.06)
8. Left afraid of people
Sidney ,   USA   (10.04.06)
The Olmert has been totally rejected by the public according to all the polls. This idea of Peres is just a manoeuvre to deny the public what it wants. Let the people decide in an election now. If they want Netanyahu, so be it.
9. Are You A Man Or A Man?
Israel ,   Israel   (10.04.06)
To Amnon Levy: Is Israel Your Land Or Someone Elses? You are a Jew, a Child of Eretz Yisrael, Start Acting Like One Believe In Your Land, Breathe the Air, This is the land where we dreampt for 2000 years, millions of Jews died so one day their grandchildren would once resettle this land. Start acting the part which you were born to be. You may not be religious but we believe that Israel is one of the biggest struggles we have to endure, its our treasure, our home, and our life. You may not have chosen to be a Jew, a Israeli, but you are one, and there is no escaping it. Understand the situation and understand there is only one course of action, defense of our land whatever the cost as I do not want to go through another Holocaust. This is our land and we are not going anywhere!
10. Perez as Prime Minister
Michael Selig ,   Boca Raton, USA   (10.04.06)
I am speachless. To think there are still people who would consider Perez as a viable candidate for Prime Minister. How much more blood shead do we need to see before we wake up to how dengerous the left in Israel is tio it's own people. Perez brought us the Oslo war with his peace at any price philosophy. We need strong leadership for once in this countries history. Some one who is not afraid to stand up to the liberals of the world and proclain that Israel belongs to the Jews and the Arabs who call thamselves Palestinians are frauds. They have no right to Israel. There only purpose is to destroy Israel. What is it going to take for Israel to finally wake up. I am sorry to say that I don't think they ever will and the consequences are scary to think of.
11. "Elder statesman can bring peace and stability, avoid war "
(10.04.06)
Like he did with arafat? Put a cork in it and get us some REAL leaders
12. Peres doesn't deserve yet another opportunity
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (10.04.06)
Einstein is said to have defined insanity as "doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result". Israel has tried the ideology of the leftists, the land for (no) peace crowd, the post-Zionists, the defeatists, all for naught. Levy asks, "what other feasible options among the ruling party are there?". Why limit oneself to Kadima, a party created out of political opportunism, based on a delusion, and now discredited by experience? Peres hasn't made a substantive, positive contribution to Israel's well-being in 20 years. Why would Israel want to turn over the reins yet again to this 83 year old fool who gave us Oslo, an unreconstructed Arafat, a legacy of corruption, weapons for Fatah, and the New Middle East (which looks a lot like the old)?
13. Yes & No
David ,   St Louis, USA   (10.04.06)
I think it'd be better to have Bibi & Lieberman facing down Assad than Peres. No to Peres. Yes to negotiate with Syria.
14. Natan Sharansky for PM!
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (10.04.06)
15. Are you suggesting a political coup?
Steve ,   USA   (10.04.06)
B"H In quote #1, you give a great reason NOT to have Peres in the PM spot (not to mention that he was defeated even in the LABOR election). This is not a time to give land to Syria from which to launch further attacks. In quote #2, it is clear that the step you are recommending first is a replacement without a vote by the public, because if they do not do as you suggest, the public will vote Kadima out. The public might also vote out Labor with its present military achievement. I can see why you would be scared of the wrath of the voter. However, I have to keep in mind that Labor is an integral part of the situation, with Peretz leading the defense of Israel. And I am not too exciting about further expanding its influence given its current level of success. And I am even less excited about expanding the influence of Peres who led Labor down its present course for many years. Quote 1: We must replace Olmert with Peres and go for a grand diplomatic movie. Syria is signaling that it wants negotiations. It's hard to exaggerate the importance of such talks for us. Syria, Iran's ally on the one hand, and Hizbullah's arms supplier on the other, is a central link in what we like to refer to as the "axis of evil." Quote 2: Now, all that's left is to carry this out. Because if they don't undertake a cleanup and replace their leader - the public will replace them.
16. Peres for Prime Minister
Guy ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (10.04.06)
Amonon Levy's suggestion that "Peres is the lesser of evils" is an unfair comparison of a visionary, accomplished statesman with a mediocre, even inept team governing our country. Peres may be 83 but is sharper and has greater vitality than MKs half his age. Of the current crop of politicians, only Peres can bring about true security to Israel.
17.  hahahaha, this is a joke right? what an idiot
Mosher ,   Very South Brazil   (10.04.06)
18. #10 - er, you are not speechless.
Andy   (10.04.06)
19. Peres
jeremy ,   Kibbutz hulata   (10.04.06)
Who is this guy kidding. Peres has brought us 6 years of war, itis called Oslo. He should be retired because he is as relevant as Yossi Beilin, the other causeof 6 plus years of war.
20. God help us !! what a proposition!!!
Moussa Suwwan ,   Paris/France   (10.04.06)
Peres is the most antipathetic politician i have ever heard of, seen or read about. I vote for Zipi Livni !!!!
21. Some Israelis still in total denial
Jonathan M. Boyko ,   Ofrah, Israel   (10.04.06)
Latest opinion article on Israeli Ynet is from Israeli investigative TV show host Amnon Levi (seen left). Mr. Levi still thinks Israeli elder peacemaker Shimon Peres should be given another chance to do some peacemaking. Moreover, he thinks that Peres should replace PM Ehud Olmert. Levi talks of Kadima's survival. "If Olmert goes," he says, "what other feasible options among the ruling party are there? Two people: Tzipi Livni and Shimon Peres. Both of them aren't ideal – she's too young for the job, he's too old. But at times of no alternative, we must choose." And he is right here. Kadima doesn't really have anyone serious to put into PM's seat. However, while Levi thinks Peres is less of two evils - I strongly disagree. Shimon peres proved himself as a peace dreamer - and dreamer only. Peres-initiated Oslo process, led Israel into shameful withdrawals that did not lead to peace, but instead led to another war. Peres-initiated Oslo peace process brought terrorist with blood on his hands [Yasser Arafat] back into Israel from Tunis and gave him and his fellow terrorists money, lands and arms with which Arafat could renew his struggle against the Zionists. Peres failed. Giving a failed politician PM's seat is a suicide. There is a reason why Peres was never elected as a Prime Minister for any substantial amount of time. Unfortunately, Levi is also too naive about the negotiations with Syria. It's hard to trust Israeli Defense Minister Amir Perez, but he was right when he said Assad should do something about Hezbollah first, and talk later when talking about possible peace between his state and Israel. Assad tries to play both fronts - the one being the radicals (supporting Hezbollah, giving "hardcore" speeches, warning Israel shouldn't even consider attacking Syria) and the other one being the Israelis - talking about soon-to-be peace between the two enemy states. Assad, nor Levi, for some reason did not mention Syria's plans to form its own Hezbollah-type militia. Does this look like a step forward to peace? In any case, Peres will not be elected. The Israeli people will not forget him his previous failures. It is unfortunate, though, that there still are Israelis who prefer lesser of two evils... Rather than finding one good. 22. This choice would have one advantage:
E. Rauch ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (10.04.06)
very soon after Peres' nomination, the Pandora box of Rabin's assassination will be opened again. The corrupt system of Israel's "democracy" will not survive. This is precisely the reason why Katsav became President instead of Peres.
23. Another leftist trying to scratch & crawl his way out
malcolm   (10.04.06)
I'd love to live in a world where Peres could be the next leader of Israel. But the facts on the ground are the extreme opposite. But I will grant you one thing. He has more testosterone than Olmert/Livni/Peretz & Halutz combined, and that's not saying much. Days prior to the surrender ...I mean "cease fire", at least he told the world to expect several more weeks of fighting. In his mind that was how much time Israel needed to make a dent in killing a significant number of Hizbollah fighters and destroying their strongholds. I guess he didn't figure on Livni and Olmert pre-caving into the French. My Rosh Hashannah dream ticket: Bibi (PM) Arens (FM) Yaalon (DM) Landau (Finance) & R. Lau (president) Olmert (Knesset head Janitor) Livni ( Knesset tour guide) Peretz ( Knesset clown)
24. The Architect of Oslo Disaster to be Premier again?
chanan ,   USA   (10.05.06)
Is this some kind of a joke? And what is it with incompetent Livni? Just because she stayed away from decision making makes her qualified for this Job? A few more nonsense like these and there will be no State of Israel.
25. Replace Monkey See with Monkey Do?
Bennie ,   Jerusalem   (10.05.06)
We would just be up to our eyes in monkey crap.
26. Peres
David Madia ,   Philly   (10.04.06)
The only serious thing Peres came up with was the Oslo Blunder. His peace process brought ten times more Israeli deaths than the last war.
27. I totally agree
Gil Karpas ,   UK   (10.05.06)
heaven help the country that has a boy for a king.
28. Relax ! Purim shpiel.
(10.05.06)
The writer thought it was Purim a few days ago. The streets looked like a carnival, so he has a point.
