Wafa Sultan: I want to beat Islamic prison     Yitzhak Benhorin
1. Heroic
Dr Sultan is brave and inspirational human being. I have nothing but the highest level of admiration for her outspoken bravery. If only the Arab world had someone like Dr Sultan in charge. We would have peace on our doorstep. You are a hero Dr Sultan, G-d bless you.
Tanya ,   Sydney, Australia   (10.12.06)
2. The world needs more people like this...
She is truely a hero. Her family's reaction, however, shows us the main problem in the Islamic world. Until this changes, there will always be problems between them and the rest of the world.
DR ,   Florida, USA   (10.12.06)
3. muslims not interested in the truth
they are more interested in altering reality and redefining the past in order to conform it to whatever orwellian fantasy they think the world should be. and with mindless islamic terrorist thugs for muscle, they strut around with impunity and dare anyone to question the obviously blatant and inherent contradictions that wreak to high heaven. my hat is off to wafa sultan - she should keep speaking the truth, especially since the media is too afraid to do so.
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (10.12.06)
4. Wafa, what exactly is wrong with you?
Yeah, I was taught that Israelis are our enemy as well, but guess what, when I go to America and learn that some shoe salesman is an Israeli, I don't go running out of the shop like a retard. Trust me, being in the West Bank, I think we're taught that Israelis are mroe horrible than what you were taught in Syria, but still, who the hell would run out of a store saying "he's my enemy!" like a mentally challenged 5-yr old?! I think you need a psychologist yourself. If what you claim about your past life in Syria is all true then you must have some seriously messed up family members, friends, or some people were playing a dirty trick on you. Because, at least for us Palestinian girls, I cannot relate to any of your stories about your past.
Sherine ,   Ramallah   (10.12.06)
5. Wafa we love you!
Wafa for president! Excellent article and interview. The only other question I want answered is: What can we do to help Wafa?
Sam ,   Atlanta   (10.12.06)
6. kol hakavod!!!! hats off to you, dr. sultan
i don't have enough wonderful words with which to describe this wonderful woman. not because i am israeli, but because i am a human being first and formost. her courage, intelligence and open eyes should be an inspiration for all of us that living in peace is better than death and terror. living with an open mind is tantamount to progress, stability, freedom and a good quality of life and democracy. my hat off to you, dr. sultan, for speaking the truth and for bringing to light the MAIN REASON why the arab nations as well as the palestinians continue to live in misery, poverty and total fear with a lack of progress in every major corner in life. if there were more of you around, and if people started looking in and noticing what they have been fed for years by those corrupt regimes who use religion to control the masses, we would'nt have ended in the present situation in the world.

7. Wafa Sultan
The transformation of Islam is the most important cause of the 21st century and Wafa Sultan is spearheading the effort. She is one of the bravest women I know. I only hope that those opposed to despotism, tyranny, fascism and murder snap out of their complacent malaise and stand behind her.
Concerned Israeli   (10.12.06)
8. She should be welcomed at the airport with flowers
Wafa, (may I call you Wafa?) if you are reading this, you are an incredible woman. May G-d bless you and protect you. You are a beacon of light to the world.
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (10.12.06)
9. i love you!!!
fatima ,   GaZa   (10.12.06)
10. She's an idiot
she just wants to become famous. what she says is inaccurate. She praises the Jews and doesn't know that the old testament portrays ishmael as a "wild ass of a man". She thinks the Christians or the Jews are in love with her when all they want to hear is her proving their false point of defaming the religion of Islam. I hope the muslims won't kill her thought. Her death will be kind of a relief to her. I wish her a long life and a real psychologist :)
y ,   US   (10.12.06)
11. Great human being
God Bless her!

12. LOL. Notice how only Israelis and not Arabs are agreeing.

13. Wafa-Heroine. All People Must Have Freedom to Worship G-D !
The greatest scripture: Bible, Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel! The L-RD is our G-d, the L-RD is one! You shall love the L-RD your G-d with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. Israel's G-D - for thousands of years, the hope of untold mega millions - our hero forever.

14. Wafa
If Islam is ever to change, it will have to come from the women in defense of their children. While their husbands and sons die for one cause or the other and for the questionable promise of X number of virgins, what will the mothers, daughters and wives get? More of the same as what they had here? I would venture to say one thing: I bet those virgins won't put up with any foolishness from these martyrs. Maybe Muslims wouldn't be so eager to sacrifice themselves, if somebody told them that paradise has run out of virgins. I suspect that even in heaven, there are only a limited number of ugly women which is, more than likely, why they are virgins in the first place. If I showed up in paradise and found my late husband cavorting with a bunch of women, be they virgins or hussies, there'd be hell to pay and he'd wish he had never, ever heard my name; before or after virginity. Does the name Lorena Bobbit ring any bells? Keep talking, Wafa. You will be heard.

15. u can't be serious
believe me , had this woman the slightest idea about islam and what it represents she wouldn't go on saying what she says.and instead of visiting israrel , why doesn't she speak of the daily suffering of the palestinian people and the ambargo placed on them simply because they "democratically" elected their representans
mona ,   morocco   (10.12.06)
16. #10 is a great example for #3's post...
these people are not interested in truth, justice or peace. they want the world to accept Islam no matter what. It doesn't matter that 99.99999% of terrorists are muslim, it doesn't matter that most muslim countries wage war against the west...none of that matters to them. They want to blame everything on Israel and the US and continue to threaten the world every time a cartoon is drawn. We need more Muslims to stand up and say "ENOUGH" . Will it happen? very doubtful!!!

20. Poor benighted mona of morocco (15)
"believe me , had this woman the slightest idea about islam and what it represents she wouldn't go on saying what she says." Well, I have seen her speak, and there is no doubt that she knows Islam both by the book and in practice. One can't fake that level of knowledge, mona. She *did* make "Egyptian professor of Islamic Studies Dr. Ibrahim Al-Khouli" look like an idiot. It was astonishing. "and instead of visiting israrel , why doesn't she speak of the daily suffering of the palestinian people" Maybe, Dr. Sultan wants to avoid being stupidly manipulated into focussing on those who have created their own "daily suffering" because of their contempt for life, their depravity, and their dedication to an Islam that brings only destruction? Maybe she knows that such counterproductive thinking only perpetuates the Islamic ghetto? mona, you're lucky to be exposed to someone like Wafa. Learn something already.
sk ,   USA   (10.12.06)
21. #4 Shireen you miss the point
The fact that you are "taught," as you say, that Israelis are more horrible than even what the Syrians might have taught Dr. Sultan shows that you in particular need to listen more carefully to her pleas regarding the ignorant attitudes propagated by Islam. Her whole message serves to convince people like you that you should NOT blindly believe what you are "taught" by Islam, but use your mind and your own experiences with non-Islamic people to think for yourself. Wafa Sultan will know she has gotten through to young women like you when go out in the real world and dare to test what you are "taught" against reality. That is her point; the point you seemed, sadly, to have missed.

22. #15 Mona...seriuos is an understatement...
When it comes to your religion and your culture. Why don't you talk about all the sectarian violence in Iraq? More Muslims are kiled there daily ( by other Muslims) than Palestinians. Why don't you talk about Africa, where muslims attack, rape and kill Christians all the time? Your constant denial of realities in the world are all the proof we need to see that Islam is not a religion of peace, but of fantasy. You keep lying to yourself and to your children and it gets you no where. Keep blaming everything on Israel though, that will make things better right???
DR ,   Florida, USA   (10.12.06)
23. Mazol Tov Dr. Sultan!!!!!!
I do not believe that there is an Arab in this world that can deny her statements. She is everything the fanatics fear and do not want from ANYONE within Islam. And the statment in the artical claiming her site has been banned in Syria only confirms that the fanatics are scared of her because she is a woman AND Islamic. Once again, Mazol Tov Dr. Sultan, may you one day be spoken about as the woman who liberated Islam from itself.

25. Our polititians need to take lesson from her.
Her courage is amazing. This woman is a true phenomenon. With Arabs like her we can makes peace not tomorrow, but yesterday!

26. I saw the second interview video mentioned here ...
She was astonishing. I also am tremendously impressed by her willingness here to be truthful about her former view of Israeli Jews, even though it made her look not only like a biggot but very silly as well (running out barefoot from a shoe store). If Islam is to survive, it will need to move in this direction.

27. #15 Mona
By embargo you mean the end of my hard earned tax money going to the charity case palestinians in the name of relief. Support your damn selves, I don't want one cent of my tax money going to those people. There elected government can create jobs and create there own prosperity, keep cying that you hate the west, then hold your hand out some more for our money. Your disgusting and retarded. I won't support a government that won't recognize Israel, or denounce violence. Not one penny of mine is going to them, I will write 10 letters a day to my MP to tell him that. The UN recognizes Israel and established the state of Israel, it is not an occupation, The Pals also recognize the UN, they cry for money and help all the time, isn't that a hypocrisy, to recognize the UN, when they are in fact the ones that established Israel. As far as im concnerned the Pals are on there own, maybe if you didn't bash the west we would be more willing to donate you some food and clothes but you made your choices now lay in the bed you made. And we see how wonderful these people are, kidnappings ,shooting each other. Who needs Israel to attack them, they are doing a great job of killing themselves.

28. Wafa - thank you
Wafa, I don't thank you as a Jew or as an Israeli - but as a woman and member of the human race. Thank you for standing up and putting words to the feelings of so many others around the world (moslems included). You are a modern day hero (normal person in unusual times who does what she knows is right).
Kate ,   Jerusalem   (10.12.06)
29. Unfortunate
I sympathize with Wafa and her traumatic experiences in Syria. However, I did watch her interview on Aljazeera and I could easily tell that she had a very limited and obscure knowledge of Islam. She has no formal education in this field and one cannot expect that living under an oppressive Syrian regime will give you the right to pretend to be an academic on the subject. Unfortunately, she has fallen prey to the opportunists who easily want to grab anyone that is naive enough to make generalizing statements about Islam and Arabs. Islam does have its problems today, but I assure you that the likes of Wafa Sultan and Irshad Manji are not helping but hurting and demonizing Muslims and Islam as a whole. Finally, what is her argument? People just talk about her and her history and her 'controversy' but what really is the "unique" argument that she has made or the amazing stance that she has taken? I cannot find any.
