31. Kyle - your comments are idiodic
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (10.25.06)
Ynet reported the horrific rape in Carmiel. And I hope the rapists are found and put away. But because Ynet also report on haredim who are SPRAYING WOMEN WITH BLEACH AND BURNING DOWN STORES this is a message to hate all haridim? That's kind of a leap in logic. I hope the police find out who is doing this, make them compensate the victims and lock them up.

Talula ,   Israel   (10.25.06)
You can be as intelligent as they come and still not wear deodorant. And to be honest, I really couldn't care less, as long as I don’t have to stand next to them. The summers in Israel are, as you very well know, extremely hot, it's only natural to sweat especially when you are wearing clothes from top to bottom, and, don't wear deodorant. I think for a charedi woman you are also extremely vulgar. I don't tell you how to dress, if you want to dress with wooly tights and hats, go ahead. I prefer to dress otherwise, and not you or any other religious nutcase will tell me otherwise. Now go get a life and leave my breasts out of it.
33. "Haredi Neighbourhood"
Paul Phillips ,   london england   (10.25.06)
No. 21. Vigilante neighbourhoods or ghettos and out of control bully boys are not compatible with a civilised, tolerant society. Do you not have Police to enforce the law in Israel? I am amazed that you believe Jewish values encompass arson and terrorising of fellow citizens

Talula ,   Israel   (10.25.06)
Firstly, I don't have to call myself 'Pretty Woman' to get attention. That's just plain funny. Secondly, you Idiot, haredim do not just live in Geula, they do happen to roam the streets of Tel Aviv as well. Furthermore, I feel pity for you for thinking that any woman who wears stylish low cut tops wants attention. I dress for myself and no-one else. I can also afford to buy my own clothes because I work for them. Unlike the haredi spongers who sit at home on their butts all day. You are a very sad excuse for a woman and I have nothing but pity for you. Next time you write something here, I suggest you engage your brain before you open that cesspit you call a mouth.
35. Talula versus Jewish Mother
Michael ,   Haifa   (10.25.06)
Talula, please do not ever become the prototypic Jewish mother, with or without a Masters degree from an Ivy League...thank you
36. #31 You believe everything published by YNet?
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (10.25.06)
Why are no details or reports of these store arsons reported in other media? You would think if there were so many store arsons there would be some arrests made, especially if they had "security cameras" to record the alleged threats being made. Why do we have only one person's word that "yeshiva students" are responsible for these arsons? Was there an investigation? Insurance fraud maybe? Or organized crime? That is the cause of arsons about 99% of the time but they will report it as "terrorism" or "ultra-Orthodox" in order to collect the insurance money. The last time I was in Geula (2 years ago) the notorious "Alain" photo store was gone and a mini mall in its place. And he promised the media that those stinkin haredim would never force him to move out! Something just stinks about the way this story is reported, and it's not just Talula's BO.
37. Intolerance cant be "tolerated"
Jorge ,   Tegucigalpa   (10.25.06)
The Jewish State has to be a land for all the Jews, not just the ones that dress as in the middle ages, for me, it is fine for them to dress as they want, eat what they want but, and this is a big but, they should not tell the rest of the people, how to dress or how to live or what to eat. Freedom to be free, to choose, is what has to be the light of the Jewish Nation, a light to the nations, not a Ghetto of fanatics living away from reality
38. #33 I'd Advise You
H ,   Jerusalem   (10.25.06)
to go to an Orthodox Rabbi and discuss the issue of women dressing modestly and the reason the haredim do not allow immodesty in their neighborhoods. Once you'll understand this, I'm sure, you (and other anti-religious person) will look at the haredim differently and with more respect.
39. 28- you are 100% right!
NY   (10.25.06)
just b/c someone does something that you dont like or even is not allowed to do - the solution is NOT to destroy them or their belongings! speak to them if you care so much what they do!for some reason a lot of Israelis act like that -burn, spray bleach etc...
40. I smell a catfight
Catfight   (10.25.06)
Talula you're overreacting and your throwing hate words to Pretty woman and Jewish mother. Relax take a deep breath. We both know it's only a group of people who don't act very Jewish as does the Kadima govt. You are just looking to generalize 2 million Haredim because of a couple 100 wackos. Stop convincing yourself how bad they all are to keep acting the way your acting. You are a very sad excuse for a woman and I have nothing but pity for you. TA TA
41. To Talulah
(10.25.06)
Shame there's no deodorant to combat your tongue. Body odour's one thing but mental odour...that's much worse.
42. It is easier to assualt women then...
Barry   (10.25.06)
persuade them to do what they do not wish to do especially if your argument is weak and the women are clever than you are but physically weaker
43. Talula the toilet mouth
jewish mother ,   jerusalem   (10.25.06)
Talula, honey, you sound like a very angry and mixed-up young lady. When you criticize an entire group of people that you have had no contact with other than standing next to one once and are able to draw conclusions about their culture and society (and personal hygeine habits), then it suggests that you have your own inner anger issues about religion. I do shop in Geula and the reason that this terrible bleaching is happening is because the women's stores are full of fashionable clothing now. It bothers those men who do not understand that educated and self-aware Charedi women want to dress in an attractive way. we earn our own money and have discovered our own power. The clothing is modest, yes, but follows fashion within boundaries. Zara in Jerusalem is FULL of Charedi women. Breasts out is not the only way to look attractive. I don't know about woolly tights, very few Charedi women actually wear them. So take your stereotypes and stuff them down your Oh-so-attractive cleavage. I suggest you either get a boyfriend or some therapy. Good luck. You are welcome to come for Shabbas in my beautiful 9 room villa to see how some Charedim really liveand experience the beauty of a frum home. and yes, we do pay taxes!!
44. No fat chix!
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (10.25.06)
I am a modern dati guy (not haredi) and I don't mind if a girl is wearing a crop top and low cut jeans, maybe a belly button stud, as long as she is hot! But, oh jeez, "muffin top" dough fat flesh oozing out of the top of the jeans, or, worse, some fiftysomething old bag showing her cleavage which resembles a pair of gym socks with door knobs in them. That kind of ugly deserves to have bleach sprayed on it and a burqa spread over it.
45. Clearly double standard on part of the secular..
elchonon ,   jerusalem   (10.25.06)
Firstly, long before zionists and the state of israel existed.. religious jews lived in jerusalem. In fact.. Meah shearim was founded long before the original olim came.. nachalot shiva was founded by Rabbi yoshe rivlin and Rabbi yoel moshe salomon CHAREIDIM!! Jerusalem was built by CHAREIDIM.. they drained the swamps and built it up.. Now, If you cannot respect their way of life and their wishes... STAY AWAY! Whatever happend to being sensitive to others ?!?!? As a settler if I walk thrue a arab village with a kahane flag and scream "death to the arabs" is that not provocation ? As for #12.. you make me laugh, you bring to mind the complaints of my female friends "you know guys are sick they dont stop staring at my chest" gotta wonder why ?
46. Talula
Michael ,   Haifa   (10.25.06)
Talula, don't be disheartened by these crazy women here...you may be a minority here in Talkback where all the conservative bigots gather..but in real life we are the majority and they are the endangered "dinosaur" species
47. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to....
Fluzzy ,   Calgary, Canada   (10.25.06)
I was walking down the street and was attacked by an angry mob of religious maniacs who threw water, umm, no bleach on me. No, I can’t describe them: they all looked alike. Anyhow, they were Torah-believing, anti-women Black Hats. (Or maybe it was black T-shirts with biker insignia, I can’t remember) No, I don’t have proof. But, don’t you believe me? I bet you do because they “pong” and are so different to us. I mean, who wears black hats these days? I bet it was them who burnt out the women’s clothing store. Who else could it have been?
48. freedom of expression-mindset
Michael ,   Seattle, WA   (10.25.06)
What a shock it was for me, with 2 teenaged daughters, to be shopping with them at Pike Place Market, downtown Seattle, and realize guys were leering at my girls! My daughters! Reality strikes. I noticed they had on tight outfits, short skirts. My girls werent little anymore. Yikes! I suppose the problem lies more with the leerer than the object. It's all about mindset. The mind is supposed to run the body-not the other way round. Right thinking leads to right action. My girls are thier own persons, free to be what they want. As long as they honour poppa, which they do. A burqa must be hot when it's 120f outside. Perhaps a skirt and tank top would be better - and men around who don't "objectify". What do I know? I'm just the poppa. "TRADITION!!!"
49. Extreme but understandable reaction..
Michael ,   New Jersey   (10.25.06)
While their response wasn't the best, their anger is understandable. These neighborhoods are one of the few places on earth where tznius is the rule, not the exception. It's extremely depressing when even these few centers of G-dliness are being desecrated.
50. 46 michael:
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (10.26.06)
look at this, you state "the majority of the people in tlkbs are religious bigots but in life they are not" Now A few mind boggling questions for your wonderful uderstanding 1) Sorry, are we dead ???? 2) If religious are a majority in tbs, wouldnt it follow most people care about modesty to some degreee? Dont forget there are also millions of other jews in this country appart from Haifa (where there is also a fair share of your so called bigots) 3) FYI Geula is Hareidi 100%. If this is not a majority then go back to gr 4 4) why bigots ? religion is bigotry ? get these things straight , a shrink might come in useful
51. understand, but they are wrong.
marilyn   (10.26.06)
i believe women should dress modestly, but I believe it comes from subjecting my will , to the will of God. I do not believe I can force the will of another person.God gives us all the freedom to choose evil or bad, but we must take the consequences of our own actions. women today are influenced by hollywood magazines and soapies that a certain standard is the norm and it is these elements the 'religious' should attack, not women themselves.
52. #46
Talula ,   Israel   (10.26.06)
Hello Michael, I'm not disheartened by these religious nutcases. I find them all sad and pathetic not to mention amusing. And I will continue to dress how I want. These Loonies are the worst kind of people in this country. They lie, cheat and sponge off the government. Their army shirking offspring run riot on the streets, smash up internet cafes and throw bleach on women because they don't dress how THEY think they should? All this vile disgusting behaviour while my sons, and other mother's sons, are in fighting units and are out there serving their country. These sad religious lost souls are trapped in a sad empty world looking out, they only give themselves to God because no-one else has the time of day for them. But unfortunately we all have to pay for them. Have a nice weekend!!! : )
53. Clothing
Vicki ,   kadima, Israel   (10.26.06)
Any form of extremism and force is wrong. However, in this case I actually agree with the Haradim. Certainly not in throwing bleach on peoples clothing, however their point about tight clothing. If you are secular, no problem, but if you are supposedely religious then it is a joke. My children both go to religious schools and the mixed messages they get from their teachers are ridiculous, you have the ones who are modest, loose clothes and head covered, then you get the ones who whilst their skin is covered the clothes are so tight, they leave little to the imagination. As for the wigs these women wear the most outragious styles and in most cases the wig is actually better than their own hair. I have asked the Rabbis wife at my daughters school an explanation for this and she quite agrees with me. My daughter in kita aleph had a teacher who wore such tight clothes and a beautiful wig, however no skin was shown. I asked her about this and the mixed messages she was portraying and all she could do was simper. I nicknamed her Barbie Dartie as this really says it all.
54. #52 - Talula
Daniel ,   Kfar Saba   (10.26.06)
Go get them tiger!!! I like very much how you think and your talkbacks is very funny, and true!
55. Not worthing to discuss
hagit ,   haifa/Israel   (10.26.06)
it's not the subject that should describe about it!!!!!!! Why need to against Halendic? everybody wear difference that's the charming point of Israel
56. Declaration
Sagi ,   Israel   (10.26.06)
I am a fifth generation Israeli, totally dedicated to Israel the State and to Israel the People. I have always served both with humility and will always continue to do so. If this is Judaism and this is permitted in our society then I find it neccessary to declare that I am and always will be a dedicated ANTISEMITE.
57. # 45 Elchonon
Sagi ,   Israel   (10.26.06)
Who should change his strange name to Elchanan. You are badly in need of medical treatment as are the sick people who perpetrate these crimes. Jerusalem belongs to me as well as you and it belongs to all the Jewish people who ever existed in this world in any age, time, era or generation and you have no right to tell me or anyone else to stay away. I have fought for this country and on more than one occassion almost layed down my life for it as have done members of my family before me and my children after me. What on earth gives you the right to tell me in which streets or areas I can or can not tread.
58. 45 <- prime example of a delusional Moron
(10.26.06)
59. Simple solution to everything!
God ,   T.A.   (10.26.06)
Anyone that still wants to live in a Ghetto should be able to, where they can write their own laws. But if it's a part of Israel, those dwelling there either pay some kind of tax or give 3 years volenteering for some civil duty, or they should be put on the other side of the fence! Simple. -An honest, athiest, tax paying member of the Jewish tribe.
60. bleaching and burning
Tirza ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.26.06)
I am an open-minded educated haredi and I think it's terrible to ruin other people's property no matter what you believe. Yet, the state of affairs in Geula has gotten worse and worse over the years. Like others said, if you are supposed to be religious, then be modest, don't overdo it and attract undue attention and make yourself a hypocrite by wearing tight clothing, short skirts, and sexy wigs. Remember that modesty just means not attracting too much attention and trying to look like a tart.
