31. Doesn't speak for me either
smith ,   vancouver   (10.30.06)
Mr. MacKay doesn't speak for me and neither does he speak for most of the people I know in Vancouver. The Conservatives at best will be in power until the spring and then this nightmare of Conservative rule will all be a distant memory
32. #4 #17 #21
Ryan ,   Calgary, Canada   (10.30.06)
#4 Typical french attitude, your the demise of this great nation and have been our bottleneck from day one, cry cry cry, that's all you ever do, just remember when you seperate it will be us your nation will hold it's hand out too. Don't expect anything less from you. #17 - Go Home, contrary to your belief it is not Canada. #21 -- Can you explain to me how a man from Ft. Lauderdale can be so confident in his opinion of Canadian public consensus.
33. Palestinian Oppression
Charles ,   Gray Summit, USA   (10.30.06)
is by their own leaders, and socalled supporters in the Arab world. Where is the Arab League when the Pals need power plants, or irrigation systems and other necessities of life and prosperity...oh yeah, they are supplying weapons and rockets to attack innocent civilians of non-muslim/non-arab descent...afterall look at Gaza, Sudan, and the rest of the world of the muslims. Kill and Kill, there is nothing about Live Free and Prosper.
34. Roni - Who's Arab?
Arja ,   Canada   (10.30.06)
Certainly not me. I'm not Muslim either, nor Christian nor Jew. Just call me a pagan, a pantheist. But come to think of it, if I converted to Judaism, I could apply to become Israeli.... something the Palestinians aren't allowed to do. Sounds like discrimination to me. Yep, Jack's my guy! He stands for human rights and is much more aware of what the real situation is in israel. BUT if Canada continues following the Americans in policy and procedure, I might want to move to Quebec and help them separate from Canada. So much for my allegiance to any country... well, it's really I find it hard to pledge allegiance to any Queen... and now that we're becoming war mongers it's harder to feel proud of being a Canadian. Oh yes, I can hear it now, "why don't you go back to where you came from." Such is the life of an immigrant. Think I'd rather be a secular global citizen, a cosmpolitan (like a citizen of the cosmos) ... or perhaps just a plain ordinary Earthling. Relgion and patriotism are divisive and dangerous to the well-being of the human species!
35. Brian Mckinney is scared of Arabs
Observer ,   USA   (10.30.06)
All it will take is one suicide bombing in Canada and then he'll sing a different tune. It isn't until terror hits home do people understand that it's real. Israel is defending itself from terror Brian. When you and your friends see the muslim community respond with violence to "protest" Canada's relationship with Israel, then maybe you'll understand.
36. Canada supposed to be bastion of peace
Adam ,   Cambridge, Canada   (10.30.06)
I don't think Canada should be taking sides, especially when both sides have committed atrocities that ought not be glossed over. We need to foster and facilitate a peace process that will allow people to see the superior way of life Canada has always held, one of mutual respect for each others' cultural ways. In today's Global Village, it is the only way to go...
37. Bush and McKay are bush servants,
John ,   toronto   (10.30.06)
And majority of Canadians rather stay impartial and not take sides, as there are serious human rights violations conducted by both sides. Conservatives hold some rather extreme views stemming from their conservative ultra religious background. Regardless, they don’t speak for the vast majority of Canadians and will be out of power soon anyway. Sorry to burst your bubble!
38. Most Canadians are against...
Dan ,   Montreal   (10.30.06)
...the military actions of the US, Israel and now their own goverment. It's important to note that the current conservative goverment is a minority government(therefore hardly representing the whole of Canada). Furthermore hardly any conservatives won any seats in our main cities Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver(where the education level is higher). And when our prime minister chose to takes sides in the last war in Lebenon...most Canadians spoke up in disagreement. In order to be an honest peace-broker, which is what we used to be untill recent times (thanks to American pressure), we have to stay neutral and promote peace. If that's what people are really interested in... And to the other canadians on this page that made racist comments about arabs, jews and french canadians. That's just wrong. Stop the hate.
39. "reality of the occupation"?
DK ,   Israel   (10.30.06)
Only shows how stupid and idiotic you are, Arja... You should check the truth, look in the history books and not at the aljezeera channel. I'll tell you a bit about the history of the region.. 1.When the roman empire entered israel and conquered it from the jews, they called it palestine. 2.The are belongs to us, though we accepted the deal to give 50% of our land to the arabs, most of it placed near the sea and in fruitful land. Most of the jewish territory was desert and highlands. 3.In 1948, arabs didnt like the idea of the 50% of the land and attacked israel from everywhere... And lost with a ratio of 1:18. 4.They tried several times again but failed again. 5.In 1995, when Izhak rabin gave even more land, 41% of our land for peace, the terror acts which had to be stopped as the palestinains promised has grown to 250%... Against unarmed israeli population, including kids, babies! Next time you are talking shit like that from the arab propaganda channels check if its true... http://www.globaljewishcommunity.com/
40. Quantum Disrupter
Bill Beyer ,   Fenwick Canada   (10.30.06)
I'm still waiting for the jews to get on their faces and beg for forgiveness for the murder of our fellow Canadian citizen. Do you think you will turn a blind eye in claiming you are the chosen. And until that day you apologize, and the day will occure, you have placed on you a thousand curses times a thousand. Now get on your knee's and tell us you are sorry. Simple as that. Do you know the power of prayer? Do you know the power of wishful thinking? Do you know that God hears those who expect retribution? Mock. Please do. For those who dance when buildings fall will not dance in the homes of our Canadian halls.
41. Friends of Israel ?!?!? NUTS
Fred ,   Montreal, Canada   (10.30.06)
Bye bye Harper and McKay Too many people in Canada know what is truthfully happening in Gaza to let these things slide. For all the U.S. citizens out there you should all see "Peace, Propaganda and the Promised Land" explains the coverage of the occupation by Americans Media Firms. Very Nice Fred, Canada
42. #38...stay neutral?
DR ,   Florida, USA   (10.30.06)
So in the fight against terror, which is what Israel and the US are both engaged in now, you want to remain neutral? You don't see anything wrong with what Saddam Hussein did? How about Al-qeida? Do you agree with suicide bonbers? How about kidnapping 18 year old soldiers (wo are just doing their job watching their borders) in order to get some murderous prisoners released? Staying neutral inlight of terror is worse than doing nothing at all. Think about it.
43. #4 "micro nuclear weapons"?
velvel ,   atlanta   (10.30.06)
What evidence do you have? From the same source as prints copies of the Protocols? Or says that we eat Christian babies?
44. #30 - DR. Please read
Ron ,   Los Angeles   (10.30.06)
DR. I've been reading your posts for some time now and I would have to agree with the majority of your posts, however, I have to disagree on this. Let me explain: 1) There were never any good relations between the two. 2) This has been brewing for many decades; this is why the first intifada took place. In your first post #6 you indicated the Munich massacre in the 70's and then jump to today regarding Lebanon. What about everything that took place in between? Again, your posts are respected, however, this type of terror has been brewing for decades..... Not days! My thoughts only..... I look forward to hearing back from you DR.
45. #42. Canada should not take a side.
Dan ,   Montreal   (10.30.06)
Your accusations are wrong and unjustified. Not everybody sees this conflict in black and white like you seem to. It is very grey and very complicated. How does one fight terror? What about when the "good guys" or "your side" engage in "terror"? I didn't say anything about Sadam and Al Qaeda, but it's ironic that you brought them up because both Sadam and Bin Laden were once sponsered and financed by the United States("the good guys"). The disctinction between good and bad is far more complex than you allude to. I don't support anybody or anything that you are trying to accuse me of. Anytime an innocent person dies, whatever their race or religion...it is a bad thing wheter its Nato(which includes Canada) bombing innocent people in Afghanistan, Palestinain suicide bombers killing innocent people in an Israeli mall, Americans raping little innocent Iraqi girls or Israel cluster bombing innocent Lebanese farmers. It's all wrong. You don't achieve peace by war. What goes on between Isreal and its neighbors is between Israel and its neighbors. Canada and other countries should concentrate on achieving long lasting peace through diplomacy. But rest assured, if ever a country or militia would attack Israel, or any other country for that matter, unlawfully on a large scale, the world, inculding Canada would come to its aid. Stop being a victim of all the fear-mongering that the corporate sponserd media is spewing in order to justify military action(apparently, there is a lot of money to be made in war). There is no good or bad side. Canada should stay neutral, the same way Israel should stay neutral about Canadian politics. I suggest you watch less Fox news...you sound like Ann Coulter! Now you're gonna accuse me of being some left wing radical. I'm not. I guess you're out of things to accuse me of. But I, as well as a majority of canadians, don't think Canada should be in Afghnaistan and I don't think Prime Minister Harper should be "taking sides" in such a complex debate(so much for democracy!). And like most democratically-elected officials, they do not speak for a country or even all the people who voted for them, they speak for themselves and their political agenda. If Westerners wanna spread western democracy... how about we fix it here first!
46. He does not speak for me!
Paul Bouchard ,   Milton, Canada   (10.30.06)
Isreal is a country more than capable of taking care of itself with its unconditional support from the US. Lets not add ourselfs to the list of modern day war criminals. This isn't us against them, it is politics. Its all about the money!
47. Oh, Canada
Michael ,   Seattle, WA   (10.30.06)
...just don't ever stop shipping ice wine from BC to Washington state. I care not about your politics nor whom you sleep with. Organized religions scare me. They are too..... "organized". I prefer Sartre.
48. Canada, Israel's new friend
Hans Hoeck ,   Vancouver, Canada   (10.30.06)
To my friends here, I have long said: We must get rid of Harper asap. I had that impression shortly after he visited W.Bush. I think, Canada should stay out of this Israel nonsense because the Israeli Politischen are criminals who have not once adhered to any of UN and other Organisation's instructions.
49. support
lee ,   canada   (10.30.06)
Looks like our impervious leader Mr Harper has been watching CNN and only reading the mainstream newspapers. If he would dig deeper he might get the true unbiased facts. As a Canadian I am outraged that he spoke for me. I did not support the massacre in Qana. I did not support the bombing of the UN post in Lebanon. I do not support Israel's UN resolution record.. we will comply but only if its good for us. Please Mr Harper ask me next time! A stupid taxpayer
50. Canada First
Peter ,   Toronto   (10.31.06)
The Canadian government should be looking out for the interests of Canada and Canadians first and foremost--not Israel's. When Israel bombed a Canadian family in Lebanon, Harper said it was a "measured response." When Israel killed a Canadian peacekeeper, McKay said nothing. Next election, I'm voting for the anybody but Harper candidate and that election can't come too soon.
51. A Prime Minister with a Backbone!
M. McLean ,   Manitoba, Canada   (10.31.06)
He does speak for a majority of Canadians, we voted him in as our government. I am glad that we finally have a PM who is not afraid to take a strong stance. Our nation stands with your nation Israel!
52. Canadian PM Mackay
Sara Springer ,   Brooklyn,NY   (10.31.06)
Thank you for understanding and saying that Israel does not need anyone to say she has a right to exist. Now will you please tell the Israeli politicians to stop waiting for recognition for the right to exist?
53. #51
kl ,   vancouver   (10.31.06)
Uh, M. McLean, only 36% of eligible voters voted Conservative so they are not supported by a majority of Canadians. The Conservatives need to worry about Canada first, not Israel.
54. #50 #49 #48 #45
Ryan ,   Calgary, Canada   (10.31.06)
50 -24 Canadians died in the WTC attack, and we did nothing, what's your point? 49 - well you got stupid right, qana was blown out of proportion by leftwing media, but you do support militias running countries, cross border kidnappings to start these events, suicide bombings, martyrs, and you support the UN supporting these terrorist groups, you need the unbiased facts, stop reading left wing, al jazeera, bbc and cbc and open a book. 48 - and these terrorist organizations abide by the UN resolutions give me a break, its' cut throat over there, but you wouldn't know about that living in Van. We can't afford to stay out of it, no matter how nice that would be, and we don't back terrorists. Israel is defensive, sorry if it has more firepower, 45 - when two kids fight, i think the best way to keep the peace is too stand between them with a big stick, not say kiss and make up then leave the room. I don't think we have the luxury of staying neutral, there were cries to stay neutral in ww2 as well, if we had we could be living in a crazy world right now.
55. Conservative Christians
Patrick ,   Montreal, Quebec   (10.31.06)
Not to forget, that these conservatives are mainly Canadian Alliance fanatics now. No wonder then, all this recent public pro Israel posturing. Who cares. We know Canada is in it with the US, and by proxy, Israel in this war again'st brown-people-who-happen-to-live-over-petrol. What I find sad is all this misguided cheerleading from oh-so-far away. All you Israeli supporters, why don't you move to Israel and be a part of the obligatory military service there...Oh that's right, you can't immigrate to Israel if you're not jewish. So many things we have in common...Seriously though, if you feel so strongly about this whole racist war, then join the army, or if too old, have younger family members join. When you have a stake in the game, we'll see if you're still so enthusiastic about fighting terror.
56. Canada: Israel’s new friend in North America
Sean ,   Toronto CDN   (10.31.06)
Great, the Israeli lobby has taken over our government too.
57. Cheers Michael (Seattle)
Arja ,   Canada   (10.31.06)
ahhhhhh yes, Okanagan Ice Wine ..... it might help me forget politics .... and the insanity in our world. Organized religions scare me too.... that's why nature is my cathedral. and one of my most fantastic cathedral experiences was at Hoh Rainforest in your neck of the woods. I kind of think that if our leaders (or any negotiating group) met outside in a beautiful area, their negoiations could go more smoothly. They could do an interesting nature-connecting activity first (as created by a Michael who lives on San Juan Island) and perhaps then they would be connected to nature and each other as human beings. Too much time indoors disconnects us from the "real" world so that we get stuck in our disconnected "stories" be they religious, political, psychological....
58. # 39 Jewish sources not Arab
Arja ,   Canada   (10.31.06)
I get most of my info on Palestine and Israel from Jewish and Israeli sources; for example, Tanya Reinhart, Amira Hass, Uri Avnery, Uri Davis, Ilon Pappe, Michael Warschawski. I also visit various Peace group websites from Israel - there are some wonderful groups. I love the slogan used by the Israeli and Palestinian women: "We refuse to be enemies." Just a few hours ago I watched a video online (I see two channels at my house - CBC English and Radio Canada French so no Arab or US tv for me!). The program I saw was called We Dare to Speak by the Jewish Committee on the Middle East filmed in 1993, but at video.google it is called "Jews Against Zionist Genocide in Palestine" (http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-6519655078961670837&q=Palestine)
59. I just thank God Canada is not Mexico
Darren ,   Tampa, FL USA   (10.31.06)
60. Canada supports Israel
David ,   Montreal   (10.31.06)
I, as a sensible Canadian, sympathize with Jews but am neutral when it comes to Israel. I believe we should weigh each action based on its merits and within context. Uanabashedly supporting Israel is a misguided perspective that is probably government policy because Harper is a closet evangelical. How many more deaths must we endure in the support of Mythology?
