1. It says no where in Torah that Jeruslm is a gay pride city!
Rabbi Shwul   (10.31.06)
2. Protest
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (10.31.06)
Talking about getting a head start...... This entire situation is starting to resemble what "those other guys" have been doing: going at each others' throats. Neither side of this parade will look so good after it's all over, and that's a shame. There won't be any winners.
3. Parasites
Seth ,   Washington, DC   (10.31.06)
Until they serve in the Army (ike the knitted Kippah) or perform alternative service, they should receive zero government benefits. Why is the state supporting these people?
4. to # 3
sam ,   ny   (10.31.06)
what does one have to do with the other
5. The Govt steps on people's most sensitive feelings...
bill handel ,   brooklyn, usa   (10.31.06)
...and then expects them to lie down quietly and do nothing.
6. King David was Gay: so what?
semsem ,   New York   (10.31.06)
The Hasid are behaving like Germans in the 1930s. King David was gay so I don't see the problem.
7. Gay marchers are nonviolent; Haredim are violent.
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (10.31.06)
8. To Seth
J.M ,   Israel   (10.31.06)
Haven't you heard of Nachal Haredi? It is a serious army unit that many boys join. If the army recognised this as a Jewish country and provide acceptable kosher food, respect for prayer times and small allowances like at the beginning of the state, then many more Haredim would join, just like in the beginning of the state. The increasing secularisation and hate of all things religious has made the army a difficult place to serve and that goes for many Kippa Seruga boys as well. During the Lebanon war just now, I know of soldiers who had to order take out food for Shabbat to be delivered to their base, since Shabbat was not even recognised. How many pictures did we see during this war of soldiers praying next to tanks etc. Don't dredge up the old Haredi-parasite crap, unless you want people to say the All-Arabs-are -Murderers line.
9. This is not about army service, Seth
Besalel ,   Kew Gardens, NY   (10.31.06)
The right the Haredim have to live in Israel is the same as any other Jew, namely, God, the creator of the land, gave it to them as Jews. The secular person's right to the land does not come from serving in the Army or because of UN resolutions or because of the Holocaust and her right is no greater than the Haredi's. While the Haredis should be contributing more to Israeli society, the society is guilty of pushing them away with two hands and then complaining that the Haredim are running away. Should the Haredi send his son to the army to learn to sleep with girls on the army base, like 30 soldiers did in a recent news story? Should he send his daughter to expel Jews from their home in Yehuda or Shomron? The State is just as guilty of making everything so unfriendly to the Haredi. But this isn't about the Haredis. It is about the Holy city of Jerusalem having a parade that will insult and offend followers of three separate religions who see the city as a holy place. It's like having a giant barbeque in the Heartland of Hindu India. We all love barbeques but recognize that there is a place and time for those things. Unfortunately, there is an element in Israel that wishes to destroy all that is sacred in Judaism and in any other religion. What is more unfortunate is that in all these years, no one has managed to pry the power away from this element.
10. so typical of men
anonymous   (10.31.06)
why is it so upsetting to you? are you such great husbands? Is this how your treat your women too? Only cruel souls can be cruel to others back. what makes you stand out from the gay protesters? Have a good husband parade and teach the laws Hashem requires of you men to make your women happy. otherwise you model insanity to your boys and the cycle repeats itself with continuous grief.
11. If these guys aren't happy they should go:like israeli arabs
Eythan   (10.31.06)
12. Suicide in the name of democracy
Dov ,   Ashdod, Israel   (10.31.06)
Why Karadi and Franco are willing to sacrifice the entire equilibrium of Jerusalem - and possibly its very security - in the name of gay free speech defies all logic. The gays are violators of Torah; Torah is our deed to the land. Let them trample Jerusalem, and we lose all legitimacy of being here. So, in effect, by letting the gays march, you're furthering the agenda of Israel's enemies.
13. Prophet David was NOT gay. Stop spreading big lies.
usa   (10.31.06)
14. #3 How Do You Expect Haredim To Serve Amongst The Secular
H ,   Jerusalem   (10.31.06)
and amongst women? Perhaps one day when Israel will finally look the way it should, i.e. JEWISH, they might join. Momentarily, it's quite dangerous for their neshomos. Those haredim that do serve, don't hav it easy guarding their souls.
15. Leave us and them alone!!!
sabbageorge ,   Tel Aviv   (10.31.06)
The best solution for our neighbours (palestinians) is to leave us alone and we will have the haredim kill us with their violent protests.and we can leave the gazans alone so that the hamas can battle the fataah! It really is simple..
16. Just Coming From That Demonstration
H ,   Jerusalem   (10.31.06)
It's not the Haredim fighting the police. It's the police fighting the Haredim. Come all and you'll see.
17. #6 King David was NOT Gay
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (10.31.06)
Do you not fear G-D to twist and distort scripture? The Bible is very clear that Israel's most famous King was ONLY attracted to women. Bible, Exodus 20 YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS
18. From the photo, it doesn't look like LA riots
AK   (10.31.06)
or tthe Crown Hights riots, or the French riots.
19. #14 Nahal Haredi
Leah   (10.31.06)
My son served in the Nahal Haredi, I wish that more bochurim would sign up for this fine unit. I am a Haredi mother of 9 children (17 grandchildren), college degree and A FULL TIME JOB. My husband also worked until he retired, and all of my 8 children also WORK FULL TIME except for the mothers of young children, and they work PART TIME. I pay taxes--20% of my salary. I am sick of hearing this "Haredim don't work and don't serve in the IDF." What about Olmert's kids, and all the leftist university professors who suck up 1000 times the amount of taxpayer money while actively supporting and encouraging Israel's enemies? Aren't they much worse parasites?
20. to #7
Ben ,   Monroe Twp, NJ   (10.31.06)
typical of the heredim, this type of violence has occurred many times when their feathers are ruffled. they want the world to dance to their music.
21. to #12
Ben ,   Monroe Twp, NJ   (10.31.06)
No, Torah is not your deed to Israel. The blood and guts of those who fought and died in the war of independence is THE deed, as well as those who fought in all the succeeding wars. Suicide; no murder in the name of Torah is represented by the heredim.
22. Wake up brothers and sisters...
Dan ,   Israel   (10.31.06)
It is time stop our long destructive division: religion/secular, sabra/oleh hadash, ashkenazi/sephardi. and start behaving like ONE united nation. The new Hitler in Iran doesn't care who are bedfellows are, he want to see us all dead and addressing that problem is where our united energy should go.
23. Who's at fault here, really?
Michael Steiner   (10.31.06)
Who's showering the other with all manner of derogatory epithets? Who wants to mistreat a section of the population because of who they are? Who is violent and resorts to force to achieve their goals? Somehow, it doesn't seem it's the homosexuals. Why don't these kharedi parasites bu**r off to Saudi Arabia? They see each other eye-to-eye with the Wahabim on so many things: they'd get along like a house on fire!
24. #10, why do the gay community insist on Jerusalem Parade?
AK   (10.31.06)
They could do the parade in Tel-Aviv or Haifa without any problems. So, why is it so important to stick the middle finger to the religious community? Respect should work both ways and Jerusalem is not an ordinary town.
25. #19 correction
Leah   (10.31.06)
All of my 9 children work FULL TIME (the 8 was a typo. I have 9.)
26. modern ortho response
tzippi ,   usa   (10.31.06)
As a modern orthodox Jewish woman I have very conflicted feelings about a Gay march. I think its inappropriate for them to march in Jerusalem, but see no reason why they should not be able to march in Sodom.
27. Bravo to those who Protest!!
Craig ,   USA   (11.01.06)
You are doing your duty before God...You will not be held accountable. Those who participate in this travesty, if it is allowed to proceed, and those who condone it by their silence, are storing up wrath for themselves. There is a God in Heaven, and though silent for a very long time..He still sees and cares. How can you secular Jews be so blind, so wreckless as to chance provoking the Almighty by your complicity? You Jews of all people of the world were called to be God's own. Can't you see a relationship between the increasing secularization of your nation and your increasing woes?? The very same leftist judges and leaders of your nation are the same who are responsible for the Lebanon debacle...Wake up Israel and stridently oppose the defilement of Jerusalem, and God may yet stay His wrath.
28. Michael Steiner: This Land Belongs To G-d And G-d's LAWS
H ,   Jerusalem   (11.01.06)
which only the Haredim keep. Those who don't like or disagree with G-d's Laws can leave. Those who wish to stay have to abide by HIS LAWS. As simple as that!
29. Choose a different place
Lala ,   Teletubbyland   (11.01.06)
They gays want repect but refuse to give it. They knew this would cause a unroar if they were to do the show in Jerusalem. They have proved their point now go else where, like the middle of the Pacific, or maybe next time Lebonon, I heard they are looking for tourists.
30. #4 & #14
Seth ,   Washington, DC   (11.01.06)
It is related because gay people do serve in the IDF and contribute to society, pay taxes etc while Haredim suck the treasury dry and have the Chutzpah to protest and riot against many of the same people that have actively defended them. Leah, more power to you and your family. We recently bought property in Hertzliya and look forward to becoming citizens in a few years.
