1. Very well said - this is no longer an issue of Gay rights...
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (11.02.06)
but is now more an issue of freedom versus oppression, peaceful assembly versus violence. Plus - look at the picture from last year's march. I was there and nobody was indecently dressed at all. We will be there this year too....
2. Andy is getting touchier by the hour !!! :-)
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (11.02.06)
3. I disagree
Steve ,   USA   (11.02.06)
B"H The protest is about behavior, not social group. It has nothing to do with race. There is no "gay race". That is patently rediculous. How can there be a "gay race" that is committed to not have children through relations as basically all ancestors did, regardless of race? The complaints are not about nice talking, but acts that go beyond that by quite a few degrees. I am happy to hear the commitment to wear clothes however. I am not sure if these are clothes of protest or clothes of respect for the city, and I think the city deserves due consideration and respect. Quote: Yes, there's quite a bit of demagoguery in this kind of word substitution, but this is the only test of discrimination and racism: Replace the name of the slammed group with the name of a group you belong to.
4. Gays are strong on rights but fail miserably in responsibili
marilyn   (11.02.06)
The saddest thing about this article, is the person seems to have no knowledge of sin, and its destructive power on the community. Aids has caused devastation in SubSahara, where children are orphans by the thousands, and the cause is Aids, which is caused by fornication of which homesexuality is a big part. Innocent people suffer because of 'gays' claiming their rights. Well we are no longer fooled these practises are murdering other people and making innocents suffer, and responsibility for your practise must be faced up to.
5. gil, why ban Beitar Ierushalaim 's soccer players?
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (11.02.06)
I bet you find them hot :-)
6. Yes Gil you are a disgrace and
Yisraeli   (11.02.06)
so is Andy Pandy for that matter.
7. Gays, Please stay away from Jerusalem
Michael U ,   SF,CA   (11.02.06)
Please keep your abomination away from the holy city. Why are you so proud of your perversions? I don't go around flaunting my sins as if they weren't sins. You people seriously need some help, and you are only distancing yourself from the righteous even further. There is no way in this world you can argue that you are doing the right thing. You are sinners, unrepentent sinners, who want to lead others to sin also. Shame on you, and shame on your families... Please stay away from the holy city, if not out of fear, but out of respect...
8. You are sinners, admit it already!
Michael U ,   SF,CA   (11.02.06)
Stop denying it and live with your sin. It is not something to be proud of. It is your duty as a Jew, if you believe in G-d and want to continue the Jewish religion, to renounce your sin and return to the world of Hashem. Please don't be so arrogant and flippant as to disregard the word which has lived for 3000 years, long before you and your perverted sexual fantasies. You and your sins are a bigger enemy to the Jewish people because you violate one of the most sacred ideals of Torah judaism. You are only Jews by birth, your place in the World To Come will be dismal unless you repent and do your teshuva. We don't want to hate you, we truely pity your lifestyle and your sins. Stop pretending you are not sinning, you are only fooling yourself.
9. Gays shoot other Gays
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (11.02.06)
10 Gays were shot by other Gays during Halloween rioting in San Francisco Castro district. Where is the outrage?
10. The Rabbis Specifically Stated They Would NOT Allow
H ,   Jerusalem   (11.02.06)
this parade ANYWHERE in the country. http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3321178,00.html They do no have the power to physically go to "Tel-Aviv" from Jerusalem, esp. since the parade is scheduled for Friday. But they are planning on continuing their protest and hoping those residing there will join and not allow it to go on.
11. This Parade is NOT a Social test for the Secular
H ,   Jerusalem   (11.02.06)
and has nothing to do with being "ultra-Orthodox. This parade is PURELY a rebellion against G-D. IMMORALITY is one of the 7 Noahide laws ALL of mankind MUST abide by and CERTAINLY ISRAEL.
12. Didn't You Just Write
H ,   Jerusalem   (11.02.06)
"They escaped to Palestine-Land-of-Israel and settled in Jerusalem because there, or so they thought, they will not be prosecuted just because of who they are." And here you - a grandson of religious grandparents or great-grandparents - go and act just like the Germans who persecuted your grandparents - by stepping on your grandparents' religion. Shame on you!
13. How Can You Compare Immorality with Shabbat?
H ,   Jerusalem   (11.02.06)
While Shabbat is a commandment ONLY for Jews, Immorality is one of the 7 Noahide Laws which must be abided by ALL of mankind.
14. Gil, you are wrong about Betar playing on Shabbat
ash ,   gush etzion   (11.02.06)
As someone who is both Shabbat observing and a Betar fan, I can tell you that they rarely play on Shabbat. They usually play on Saturday night or sunday. There are clear differences in the mind of the ultar-Orthodox between breaking Shabbat and the homosexual act. Whetehr I agree with it or not, the Torah does describe the homosexual act as an abomination. This term is not used in the Shabbat desecration context. I do however agree that whether this parade should go ahead, it should not go ahead on the anniversary of Kristallnacht. Gil's explanations are derrogatory. Because his family flee he does not talk for all the Jews who experienced that night. We should understand the pain that any celebration in the streets of our capital would cause those who suffered that night. You expect tolerance, show some tolerance yourselves.
15. While YourGparents FledFrom The Germans You FleeFrom TheJews
H ,   Jerusalem   (11.02.06)
This article would make your religious grandparents or great-grandparents very proud of you. While your grandparents fled from the German, you flee from the Jews.
16. # 3 Steve
(11.02.06)
The fact that many gays who have children didn't necessarily do it through conventional means, doesn't mean they're not committed to having children. What about straight couples who go through in vitro fertilization or other non-traditional methods of conceiving a child. And what about gays who once feared coming out and got married and had children the same way your ancestors did? I'm not sure why that's really an issue.
17. # 8 Michael
Renee, NY   (11.02.06)
For somebody who purports to be so pious, shouldn't you be leaving it up to God to decide who the sinners are? Not only that, but in a world full of terrorists, murderers, child abusers and such, I wonder if gays are really at the top of God's list.
18. To No. 12
NYC Girl   (11.02.06)
I'm curious as to just how far you're willing to go with your onerous comparisons to the Nazis because someone doesn't adhere to every aspect ot Judaism? To accuse someone of being like the Germans by "stepping on your grandparents' religion" is, frankly, beyond the pale. Not only that, but you seemed to have overlooked the fact that many of those persecuted Jews, some of whom may have started out being very religious and who survived the camps, became atheists as a result of the experience. In fact, many of those Jews were the ones who later went to Palestine.

7 Noahide Laws which must be abided by ALL of mankind.
20. #18 Why Should An Atheist Want to Live in Israel?
H ,   Jerusalem   (11.02.06)
If they do not believe in Judaism and G-d, why move to Israel? Obviously, they're not really "atheists". I knew a secular Jews who claimed to be an atheist. I asked him, "what do you do if your child gets very sick? Wouldn't you say, 'Oh, G-d, please help.'" "Well," he said. "In such a case, of course I would say, "G-d, please help." I then told him, "Obviously, you're not an atheist but just not in the mood of G-d's laws and commandments." Those secular Jewish "atheists" who went to Israel have the same belief as any secular Jew. And by the way, I was not comparing anyone to Nazis but comparing his grandparents act of fleeing the enemies of Jews while he is fleeing religious Jews. Now, don't tell me that's not heartbreaking.
21. To No. 20
NYC Girl   (11.02.06)
I'm a "real atheist" and an ardent Zionist (and so is my Israeli husband, as a matter of fact), but neither of us would ever say "God help me" except as a figure of speech. And while, thankfully, neither my family (because they had come to America about a century before that) nor my husband's (because they're native-born Israelis whose family originally came from Iraq) were victims of the Holocaust,I can certainly understand how any survivor could question the existence of God after such a horrific experience. In fact, probably some of the greatest wisdom on that subject came from Nobel prize winning author, Isaac Bashevis Singer, who said "I don't believe in God, but I believe in the Devil." And please understand that even those of us who don't believe in God still believe in the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish state...and that's really not as incongruous as you might think.
22. #21 You Should Never Be Tested But If
H ,   Jerusalem   (11.02.06)
you are, REMEMBER, there's a Great G-d in the world whom you can pray to. Regarding the holocaust, read post #20 from Adam Segal at http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3322809,00.html

24. come out of your ghetto!
Vitaliy, Esq. ,   NJ, USA   (11.02.06)
This has happened again and again. People continuously tell us, the secular populace, that our grandparents were religious. For some of us, it is true. But for many many many others it's not! Neither my grandparents nor my great-grandparents were religious. They lived in the cities known for their lack of religious adherence! Please, do not tell us where they prayed!
25. # 20 H, so, you're comparing religious Jews to Nazis?
Ali G ,   NJ, USA   (11.02.06)
H, If you are comparing the author's grandparents fleeing the Nazis to the author fleeing religious Jews, you must be comparing religious Jews to Nazis, or Nazis to religious Jews. There is no other way to understand the comparison. While I think that religious Jews' behavior in this issue is barbaric, I would never call them Nazis.
26. Cause of Aids
Paul Phillips ,   london england   (11.02.06)
"Aids, which is caused by fornication ..." In England it's caused by a virus. You obviously have a particularly bigoted strain in your country.
27. Haredim
dana ,   ny   (11.02.06)
I have an idea, lets take the haredim kids, cut off their payot, blow cigarette smoke in their faces on Shabbat, give them treif food, deny jobs and health insurance to their parents unless they send their kids to good secular schools where they learn gay moral equivalence, and give their babies up for adoption to good secular Jews. Oh wait, the YNET types already tried that!
28. Gil, do you observe Shabbos?
Steve ,   USA   (11.02.06)
B"H Gil, do you observe Shabbos? I think you ask the ultraorthodox to slam soccer players for not observing Shabbos, so the question is do you observe Shabbos? How many of those in the parade observe Shabbos? Shabbos is a family-oriented event, with children, biological fathers, and biological mothers, for the most part. In other words, you ask the ultraorthodox to punish people who do not observe Shabbos more than they punish people who do not observe Shabbos and who ALSO are violent toward their fellow man? I think the hypocracy is not with the ultra-orthodox.
29. Re #16: Because gays who change repent
Steve ,   USA   (11.02.06)
B"H Gays who decide that despite what they feel like doing, that they will raise children and have a family foundation of some sort have repented to some degree or another. That is the difference. It is called teshuvah.
30. Question for Nyc girl
NYC Boy   (11.02.06)
You said And please understand that even those of us who don't believe in God still believe in the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish state... What is this belief of yours based on? Do you support al qaeda who forcefully and violently took over Afganistan or Sudan for that matter. Say Palestinians aren't interested anymore with the Jews running it and they are willing to fight to get back their land do you support them. What makes Israel a Jewish state because Jews forcefully took it over, if you want, call it a Jewish occupied state i will agree with you. And i mean the whole Israel is being occupied no compromises.
