1. promiss of non violence
civil protest ,   sensitivity   (11.01.06)
this promiss is just empty words the religious sensitivities of all observent or non observent Jews are being trampled upon and you actually think there wont be any violence. you are dreaming. it is like announcing at a time certain a group is planning on slaughtering a pig on the temple mount and think that the moslems will just be peacefully protesting such event. if allowed Israel is has no spiritual riight to survive as a home for the Jews. Israel as a land mass cannot be eradicated but the jewish leadership will be forfiting their right to lead a Jewish land
2. national religious
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (11.01.06)
as much as the zionist religious are there working together with hareidim against desecration of Jerusalem SO should have hareidim fought against ethnic jewish cleansing from erets haKodesh last year. G-d willing these evacuations should not occur any more. Just in case, I wish too see ALL of you hareidim fighting hand in hand with your zionist national religious brothers. No excuses
3. Gays should dress like Haredim
Uzi ,   Haifa   (11.01.06)
It will ease tensions, they will make their point and everybody will have clean fun.
4. Yesha council joins anti -gay parade protest
Connie ,   VA, USA   (11.01.06)
After reading this I really feel Israel is at the crossroads of her destiny. Which way will this "come down"? If this "gay pride" parade allowed to continue it will be the beginning of the end. While it's true the Lord God doesn't want any man to perish He is vehemently opposed to those who want throw this in His face from His own city, "the apple of his eye", Jerusalem.
5. What a load of...
Griff ,   NC   (11.01.06)
You know, I can almost understand someone finding the parade offensive, given where it's to be held. The orthodox are behaving shamefully, though. Someone could get killed as a result of what they're doing, and they don't care. I hope that J'lem is stronger than to give in to these thugs.
6. #5 Read what Pinchas did and what status Hashem gave him?
(11.01.06)
He killed a Erev Rav Jew and his heretic of a spouse and Hashem gave him the status of such high status, he is a hero in the Torah. You dont know your own religion.
7. Intolerance is the death of democracy
Steve G ,   Kew Gardens,NYC   (11.01.06)
This extremely intolerant behavior undermines the respect for individuals that is the bedrock of democracy. The hardim parade their identities and beliefs every day on the streets, Yet allowing gay people a few hours every year is intolerable? Maybe you want to break the glass on gay storefronts, too?
8. Gays marching in Yersuliam
chaim ,   miami beach USA   (11.01.06)
I have been following the counterviews of both the supporters and the opponents and what I fine is a total failure by the Israeli Jewish Public, as to exactly what is the purpose of granting a permit for such a volatile and polarization of distinct segments of the fiber making up the tapestry of Israel. PM Olmart was the mayor of Jerusalem, he understands the emotions that the city has on the Jews throughout the entire Jewish world, he is merely paving the way to relinquish Jewish control of this city to the Islamic hoards by removing with force the special sanctity attributed to Jerusalem. This is how he plans to achieve peace with the Arabs, by considering this particular city as disposable for his personal grandeur. Olmart you will fail and all your followers will also fail and Jewish History will equate with “Yorovom Ben Nevot” Chota Vemacty as Harabim. Translated an unrepentant sinner and inducing the public to be sinners as well
9. How many Haredi Are Repressed Homosexuals?
World Citizen ,   the world   (11.01.06)
I bet a lot of zionists and haredi are gay but they hide it deep within themselves. That's probably why they tend to be so aggressive and hostile in their outlook on everything. Now that I think about it, maybe that's what is wrong with the whole nation of Israel?
10. #3 Uzi Even Better Yet
H ,   Jerusalem   (11.01.06)
Gays should spend this coming Shabbat in the homes of Haredim where they will see for themselves what a warm group of people the Haredim are.
11. #4 Connie You Said It - Just What The Posters in Jerusalem
H ,   Jerusalem   (11.01.06)
read. The Mekubalim and Tzaddikim Nistarim (Hidden) proclaim that if, G-d forbid, this parade will take place, we should fear another war in the north and a serious earthquake. Your words: "If this "gay pride" parade allowed to continue it will be the beginning of the end."
12. GRIFF YOU CAN SAY THE SAMETHING
Bush ,   USA   (11.01.06)
concerning the gays. They are behaving shamefully and someone can get killed as a result of what they are doing and they don't care. What makes you more right than them and if you want to say freedom and democracy I can say back what about their freedom and democracy to practice their religion. Let them feel free without seeing things against their religion. There is two sides to every fight but you must agree there is only one instigator. From my understanding is that the gays are provoking the religious and secular in the city and not the opposite.
13. religious drama queens!
terah ,   montreal   (11.01.06)
oy! the sky is falling! sodom and gomorah! Such cowards are these haredim! so brainwashed by their mythology. So full of hate. Support love, not hate, if you really want to repair the world!
14. STOP THIS INSANITY!!
stude ham ,   outremont, canada   (11.01.06)
the parade must be cancelled. this polarization is dangerous and has no business in jerusalem. we have enough enemies around us already without this insanity fuelling our discord. the world will not mourn the loss of any gay pride parade. but israel will be wounded by its presence in jerusalem.
15. The will of G-d
Adam ,   USA   (11.01.06)
G-d loves us all and all unions of people regardless of gender are holy in his eyes.
16. # 5, what understanding?
Vitaliy, Esq. ,   NJ, USA   (11.01.06)
Griff, Please understand that Jerusalem is according to most Jews the capital of Israel. Israel is supposedly a democracy. In any modern democracy citizens have a right to peaceful gatherings. Assuming this is true, all citizens have a right to demonstrate in Jerusalem as the governmental capital of the state. If they don't have that right or the government does nothing to help them exercise it, the state has no legitimate right to call Jerusalem its capital and can not expect other states to relocate their embassies there.
17. Gabriela i must disagree with you
Bush ,   USA   (11.01.06)
What happened by the disengagement was decreed from Above especially for the fact that it fell out on the anniversary where we were chased out from our land twice. Who are you fighting with if it was decreed. The best approach would be to accept Hashems punishment and pray you don't lose anymore land and do Teshuva. You cannot change a decree from Hashem especially not through might. Prayer has a chance to change it, but is also difficult. Many if not most Religious all over the world were praying or fasting leading up to the disengagement My question is on the Datiyim in Gaza who fought back which could have caused a Chillul Hashem if anything went wrong, but not on the Haredim. Maybe it would have been better to be quiet and accept Hashems decree on that Tisha Bav. Regarding the gay parade you can't say it's a decree to march or parade . it's the peoples choice and if the people can stop it then so be it, we will all work together as one nation to fight for G-ds honor in His land.
18. PREVENT JEW-ON-JEW BLOODSHED!!
Shmuel Addams ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.01.06)
This division within our small, threatened, nation is totally unnecessary and is only encouraging our enemies, who are gaining strength while we engage in this non-sense! NO MARCH! NO COUNTER DEMONSTRATION! NO JEW-ON-JEW BLOODSHED!!!
19. LET THE GAYS GO TO THE GALUT TO SATISFY THEIR INCLINATION
Sid Emess   (11.01.06)
We don't need them in Yerushalim, or in Eretz Yisrael. How is it that such a perverted minority, just like the "Women in Black" or better known by most as black bitches demonstate freely, offending the vast majority of the citizens of the Jewish State - yes it is suppose to be Jewish - check the Declaration of Independance. Free speech is one thing but what they are doing is to corrupt society to satisfy thier inclination that is against all Jewish values - because the churches in certain countries accept them does not mean we have to follow suite.
20. previous
Noam a ,   Jerusalem   (11.01.06)
Snhmuel Addams: DONT LIGHT CHANUKA CANDLES! They mark the victory of the pure (jews) over the impure (post jews, helenists, New Age idiots et al) with bloodshed!
21. #16 - Very Well Said.
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (11.01.06)
22. #7, Steven, its not about intolerance
Besalel ,   Kew Gardens, NY   (11.01.06)
Would you call it intolerant if the government of India prevented a giant public barbeque to take place in the Heartland of Hindu India? We all love barbeques and fully support anyone's right to have a barbeque but everything has a time and place. How would you feel if the New York Rangers had a Stanley Cup victory parade in the Nassau Colesium? Tasteless? How would you feel if someone opened up a tire factory on Abingdon and Lefferts? Offended? Jerusalem is a city holy to three separate religions and which embodied holiness to the Jewish people for thousands of years. The parade should not take place in Jerusalem.
23. Make Berlin a Model for Pride day
john ,   canada   (11.01.06)
Gays are no problem, as my experience of BERLIN shows. The Gay Pride day in Berlin is a festival of LOVE such as we desperately need in Israel ...why not use PRIDE day to start dialogue with gay PALESTINIANS to overcome hatred?!
24. World Citizen
Yehudit   (11.01.06)
The same % of Harediim and religous Zionists are gay as any other groups. Sadly, the Harredim are forced into early marriages and thse who are gay suffer much self-loathing. It is not unlike peole who grow up in the evangelical Christian communities, learning that homeosexuality is a moral sin. When I hear people argue that giving homosexuals rights will convert more people to be homosexuals, I always wonder if this is someone who has struggled all his life to deny his own sexuality. How threatening it must be to think that all that pain and struggle and self-denial might not be what God wants after all. It is very said what people do to themselves in the name of pleasing God.
25. How do you know if you're gay
Just axin'   (11.01.06)
If you have urges, does that make you gay? If you don't act out your urges, does that make you a "repressed gay"? What if you don't have urges but some gay guy keeps hitting on you and says "you don't know what you're missing"? If you have one gay experience, even if you decide that it's not for you, does that make you gay forever? If it's something you're "born with," how come there isn't a way to test for gayness at birth?
26. Heterosexuals of the World Unite!
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (11.01.06)
(I guess they always have....)
27. #24Yehudit Who Thinks She KNOWS All About Haredim
H ,   Jerusalem   (11.01.06)
First of all for your knowledge: A Haredi is a G-d-fearing person (not to be confused with religious Zionists who can be secular Israelis as long as he's not anti this "medina"). If a Haredi eats non-Kosher or purposely goes against ANY law of the Torah, he is not Haredi. Although he might wear a kippa and look Haredi, he is not Haredi. So there's no such thing as "secretly" sinning. Now, regarding the "%" you're comparing to "any other group": Have you seen "1" gay Haredi? If so, he's not Haredi.
28. Memorable festival
Sagi ,   Israel   (11.01.06)
Clowns dressed as clowns and others undressed as clowns fighting each other. It should be turned into a annual event like the carnival in Rio, wonderful for tourism, would bring in millions of dollars.
29. For "Just Axing"
Yehudit   (11.01.06)
How do you know you are heterosexual even if you have never acted on it? It is a matter of attraction. One experience doesn't make you gay, just as marrying someone of the opposite sex doesnt't mean you aren't gay. I'm a straight woman and I have always known that--even as an innocent little girl who didn't really know what I was being attracted to. Why isn't there a test? Well, there aren't tests for many things. And scientists aren't exactly sure what influences sexual orientation--genes? hormones in the womb? Human sexuality is a very complex subject.
30. #12, #16
Griff ,   NC   (11.02.06)
#12: Murder is wrong. We can debate the issue if you wish, though. #16: You missed the point. I sympathize with the feelings of the orthodox, not with their behavior. They have a right to feel and think as they wish, which I defend. They have a right to feel that the parade is offensive and even say so publicly, which I defend. They do not have a right to incite riots with no care as to whom is hurt as a result. This is where we draw the line between peaceful protest and common thuggery, not before.
