Posters in J’lem: Franco, go back to Nazi Germany    Efrat Weiss
1. lacking in historical/ethnic intelligence/perspective...
the ultra-orthodox fail to realize that Franco shares his last name with the late dictator of Spain...Francisco Franco who was rumoured to have been Jewish. Therefore the least the printers of the posters could have done is get it right...that is their posters should be calling to send Ilan Franco back to Fascist Spain. But then again we all know that these ultra-orthodox protesters lack all sense of historical/ethnic intelligence so we shouldn't be surprised at their lack of tolerance for their fellow brothers and sisters irrespective of sexual orientation. Religious zealotry is a poor substitute for tolerance!

2. Religious zealotry poor substitute for loving kindness!
sally forth ,   jerusalem of course!   (11.03.06)
3. Orthodox are pathetic
All this fuss for nothing. It shows intolerance and bullying. A synagogue was already attacked in Tel Aviv. In a way, I can understand the attack though I don't approve.
semsem ,   New York   (11.03.06)
4. Poster is faked by leftists!!!
The poster doesnt even include the must "בס"ד". http://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%91%D7%A1%22%D7%93 This poster is totally fake, leftists have done this before with that fake bomb insutrctrion sheet. Dont believe EVERYTHING you hear, includnig what comes out of ynet's mouth.

The only intolerance I see is the disrespect for Jerusalem as a holy city by gays. They are telling religious Jews that we will march no matter what you think or what the city of Jerusalem stands for - in effect we are just going to shove it up your .... and Hashem's ... .Further, the objection is to where the gays are marching - they are free to continue their lifestyle - why can't they march in Tel Aviv or Mecca or the Vatican. Last, the violence in Tel Aviv is by gays not Orthodox - please get your facts straight.

6. Sally Forth
We all know you lack all sense of Torah values. Jerusalem is a holy city - it should be treated as such.
CJ ,   chicago and USA   (11.03.06)
7. Where are the Rabbis?
As an observant Jew, I remain mystified by a community that does not rise up and criticize those who are rioting in the streets and attacking (physically and otherwise) the police. Every Rabbi in whatever orthodox community is involved in the misbehavior should stand up and (while continuing to criticize holding the gay rights parade) demand that their followers stop the violence, stop trashing the streets and stop calling fellow Jews Nazis. Where are the Rabbis? They have given up their right to lead

8. Religious zealotry is not substitute for anything
There are guidelines for behaviour in the Torah, even in dealing with one's idealogical foes. If the reports in the articles are true, these so-called Haredim have violated the Torah, and therefore forfieted much of their right to speak on its behalf. While I support their goal, their means of pursuing it are unacceptable.

9. seeds for suisied
they always want to hide it, and refusing to let it appear to serface, the religous parties who dont serve in army, dont work, have a lot of votes so they can blackmail government to pay them more direct funds than they deserve if they deserve anything, and the indirect funds from bitoah leumi, and funny that most israelies living liberal life and forced to pay taxes to fund the payments for these religous, and pay the price by life to protect them, while these religous cutting breath against them by shabat closings as example boycutting now superfarm, bars no working, restaurants in some areas, this case, no civil rights etc ....... everybody know thats all of this is a plantrd seeds, each case will water it to grow, and nobody took actions to stop it, while all know that big explosion will demolish israel.

10. Haredim
Absolutely disgusting. These people are a cancer in Israeli society, and a disgrace to Judaism.

11. Franco
What will they invent tomorrow to spread some more hatred ? Do they want to be more and more banned of this civilisized world ? Let them go back to their sthetel if they conduct themselve as they do . Is that what the thora teachs them ? Sad , sad , sad . Where are the truly good believing Jews that we , non believing Jews , can respect and even appreciate ? Where they all murdered in the Shoa ? How can we respect or tolerate such bad people ?

12. wondering
i'm wondering if a non-jew has made these comments about someone who happened to be jew, what the reaction would've been! Anti-semitic of course, anti human, barbaric.. etc. but since a jew has made it, even he's a runaway jew from medieval era, so it's no more than a freedom of speech, and right of experession. another wondering is, as a gay who suffered from islamic barbaric mentality towards homosexuality, can i ask what's the difference between those ultra-orthodox jews and islamic fundamentalists?

14. One Too Many Protests
Israel has become a dysfunctional society. It has as many crisis and protests combined as virtually every country with much larger populations. There is more bad news coming out of Israel in one week, than the US the entire year. Israel seems to be imploding from within, and this latest flare-up is but one example. Just about every P.M. has been investigated for minor infractions, from Bibi to Olmert. 2 P.Ms have finished their terms. I lost count of the new governments. Israeli-Arab MKs commit sedition regularly, while a right wing legislator is villified before taking office, (comparing him to Hamas). The Pres. is accused of rape, and the IDF of major failures in but another minor war. Kassams still fall, yet no one has an answer for even crude rockets (albeit dangerous). I ask, what will occur when Iran tests the "bomb" maybe over Tel Aviv. Then what will Israel say and do? Frankly, I need some wisdom now.

That's like saying that the Hashems should stay in Jerusalem and as long as they stay there they can do whatever they want, but out side of Jerusalem everyone is free to protest them, throw stones at them and stab them, they way they have been doing to gays and lesbians. Obviously, no one will agree that that is acceptable, so why should it be acceptable the other way around. Don't forget that Jerusalem is the political capital of Israel, holy city or not. WHo else should be banned from marching in Jerusalem? Political parties (particularly secularists)? Those who aren't hashem and orthodox? Those who don't wear clothing deamed proper by the hashems? anyone else?

Biologically the only sexual orientation that works is hetro all the rest are a dead end. Biology is intolerent.

17. #7 - Hello Sam? The "rabbis" are inciting....
its not just that they're silent. Get a grip, man - gay folks want to peaceably and respectfully assemble in our capital city. That's all. You act like the "rabbis" are simply ignoring riots. They're not - they are inciting riots. I hope negotiations between religious leaders and the JOH produce results. We need to understand and have tolerance for one another -but it works both ways. Telling us to stay in Tel Aviv isn't going to work anymore.

18. Criminal Haredim
Shame on Haredim. I think the haredim are more like Nazis than anyone else. If they would attack me, I would smash thier faces for life regardless wether they wear a "religous custume" or not!! The are a disrgace for the jewqish people and will allways be considered outcasts in my book.

19. WHAT"S YOUR PROBLEM WITH GAY PEOPLE???

20. This filth wears long black coats like the gestapo
Since they do not serve in the army.Do not let them vote, receive child allowances, sit in the knesset.Make them pay a defense tax on each one of them that does not serve and their spawn.

21. Non Israeli asking a question
I'm a non Israel and i am not jewish. I'm wondering. I have heard that Orthodox jews throw stones at people who continue to do normal activities like drive a car on Sabbath? Is that true or is it just anti-Semitism.
Jim ,   UK   (11.04.06)
22. To the Israelis
Since Israel likes giving back territory after it's soldiers died capturing them from their enemies, consider giving Jerusalem away to Hamas. At least the holly city won't be defiled with gay pride parades anymore.
Zev ,   New York, USA   (11.04.06)
23. Gay pride! Yeah baby!
Why teach your children Jewish pride, teach them gay pride instead. The anti semites in the EU will really love you now. After all imitation is the purest form of flattery.
Zev ,   New York, USA   (11.04.06)
24. Haredim
The police need to deal harshly with anybody engaged in criminal activity. This sort of behavior cannot be allowed to go on in a civilized society, and maybe it's time to make an example of haredim who take part in violent protests. There are a lot of secular Israelis who've had it up to here with this sort of fanaticism and one of these days the country could be teetering on the brink of something akin to a civil war. In fact, it may only be the threat posed to Israel by forces outside the country that has even kept a lid on this thing until now.
NYC Girl   (11.04.06)
25. To No. 21 Jim
Unfortunately, it's true, but please keep in mind that these criminal acts are carried out by a very small minority of religious fanatics who in no way represent mainstream Orthodox Jews who, overwhelmingly, are peaceful and law-abiding.
NYC Girl   (11.04.06)
26. Answer to #21
If you drive on the Sabbath in their neighborhoods, or dress particularly immodestly in their neighborhoods, it is quite possible that you can get stones thrown at you. But this is just in their neighborhoods.

27. to CJ
CJ , if Jerusalem is so holy for you , tell me , why you are still living in Chicago ? This applies also for all those criticising what happens here , but , NO , we have already much too much such intolerant "religious" people here . PS i wrote "religious" , because true religious people are respected , they are good in everyday's life , they are even tolerant and DO NOT THROW stones at bus or taxi drivers .
charles ,   petach tikva   (11.04.06)
28. Haredim=fanatic religious lunatic
When I was Bar-Mitzvahed at the Kotel, I remember reading in the paper that a tourist got lost and drove into Mea Shearim. The Haredim attacked her car pelted her with garbage and stones. My ultra-orthodox Grandfather thought this so despicable that when we went to tour Mea Shearim a few days later refused to join us. He said these people are not Jews. They are not worthy. Jews do not act like 'vilde chaim' and without 'rachmonous.' The Haredim have not changed. They are still wild beasts and apparently need to be caged ie jailed from the Rabbinate on down. What an embarassment they are! All this violence because gay people want to march in the nation's capital along a route that is carefully designed not to enter into 'religous' areas.
