The collaboration between the Technion and MIT is precisely what motivated my son Chaim, a student at MIT, to initiate an exchange program between the two schools. Islam provided the foundations for our systems of education, astronomy, mathematics, and architecture. The Israeli Scientists can thank Islam because when Islam was its height, it encouraged education, medical research, encouraged debate and tolerance of other religions. The medical knowledge that we have today was passed on by Jewish immigrants from Spain to the rest of the world. They studied freely under Muslim medical schools in Spain and other Arab countries. This was the time when European countries were considered backward because any debate or questioning of anything was considered a threat to the Catholic Church. So yes, well done to the Israeli Scientist – it is good to hear good news from Israel for a change but you can thank the Muslims for your knowledge.
