I am always so impressed with the shluchim of the Lubavitcher Rebbe! Rabbi and Mrs. Greenberg and their children are in China solely to help the Jewish residents, tourists, and business people who come through the country. And now these people will be able to more easily observe the beautiful! mitzvah of mikvah-- in Shanghai of all places! Leave it to Chabad to bring Judaism to the people, no matter where they are!

Returned yesterday from China. The Shanghai Chabad mikveh is beautiful, as is the one in Beijing (also Chabad). I recommend the meals at Jewish Centre Shanghai, although it is some way out of city centre. Best tours of Jewish Shanghai are with Dvir Bar-Gal http://www.shanghai-jews.com/1.htm do not accept tours by Chinese local guides who know nothing about the history of Shanghai Jews

Instead of promoting and encouraging and thus perpetuating the existence of communities in the galut, Chabad should be trying to bring on their demise and encourage them to come home. The galut mentality, especially the Eastern European brand would best be erased from our memories, it brought us to near extinction.

...Galut is a fact and somebody has to help lost Jews there. Habad is not promoting Galut but saving jewish souls there. If Habad was not there, these people would assimilate and become goyim, they would never make alyah. But thanks to Habad's work, many assimilated Jews come back to Judaism and ultimately make alyah.

I am making Aliyah next month. We need more Jews in Israel to strenghten her. But the Jews in Galut help in positively influencing governments and others to support Israel.
