It sounds like " NICHT FUR JUDEN " No further comments only DISGUSTING !!!!
2. If they tried this in my neighbourhood
Gilan ,   J'lem, Izzie   (11.21.06)
If they tried this in my neighbourhood and the police didn't stop them I'd be VERY tempted to take the law into my own peace-loving hands. What right do backwards, anti-Israel, racist, sexist freeloaders have to restrict a woman's choice of SIDEWALK in PUBLIC areas? It's about time we stopped tolerating this kind of cr*p. My tax shekels SHOULDN'T pay to clean up Mea Shearim that the local freeloaders destroyed because some people wanted a peaceful parade. It's time this wonderful so-called democratic state implemented its Basic Law and gave us freedom of religion and freedom FROM religion. And while we're at it, let's give ALL Israelis a chance to get a decent education. Poor Shloymi might enjoy 10 hours a day of Talmud, but when he "graduates" without a basic knowledge of real history or science or the outside world, that's self-perpetuating child abuse that damages our whole society.
3. What!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avraham ,   Netivot   (11.21.06)
So we also have to breath seperate air?
4. lust will become rampant ??
Talula ,   Israel   (11.21.06)
So this is actually what it ALL boils down to. These religious inbred misfits cannot control themselves, they have NO SELF CONTROL. Rather than deal with restraint when they see a pair of titties they are, once again, out on the streets with their rocks and their stones, demonstrating and causing havoc. Through them all in the army! They are beyond VILE. They make me sick I hate them.
5. Back to the middle ages!
enzo ,   london,uk   (11.21.06)
"They are putting up illegal signs, running wild and throwing stones" . Isn't that illegal in Israel?
6. Sounds Like Taliban
emanon ,   USA   (11.21.06)
7. But where will transvestites walk?
Josh   (11.21.06)
Couldn't help myself. Leftovers from other news of twisted perversion parades.
8. Power, Power, Power
Josh   (11.21.06)
It is a shame how they pervert the words of Torah to cause suffering and gain rabinic control over human sexuality and who marries who. Moses must be realing in his grave.
9. There is a difference!
Gidon ,   california   (11.21.06)
At least there is a limit with our segregation, both parties do at the end wand and need each other and get married unlike some other weirdoes(!/?) that wanted to go for a stoll not too long ago in Jerusalem.
10. A gays dream come true.
Shlomo ,   california   (11.21.06)
11. 2 - ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!! WELL WRITTEN
Talula ,   Israel   (11.21.06)
12. The Gangs of Beit Shemesh - LOL
Isabella ,   Israel   (11.21.06)
They know no boundaries. They think they rule the sidewalks and are the last word in morality. That's so funny. They are penguins who should be sent to the north pole.
13. sidewalks
malka ,   Paris   (11.21.06)
As an orthodox jew, I can tell you it is not only the secular jews that are infuriated by this nonsense. Lots of my (orthodox) friends living in Beit Shemesh feel an extremist faction is poisoning their daily lives.
14. #12 - okay if they keep it on their own turf
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (11.21.06)
but of course in the long run they want the whole country to be that way.
15. Say what you will...
Michael Steiner   (11.21.06)
...but this kind of crap is not done even in Saudi Arabia, which is usually pillories here as the epitome of fundamentalist discrimination against women. These morons are a disgrace to the Jewish people. The kind of nonsense they propagate would be too radical even for the Taliban. I can't say I've ever hated anyone in my life, but these morons are now top of the list of those I border on loathing.
16. Segregated sidewalks
marlene ,   Israel   (11.21.06)
TOTALLY PATHETIC. THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO TELL PEOPLE WHAT TO DO. MAYBE THE POLICE SHOULD DO SOME WORK AND PATROL THESE STREETS TO STOP THEM
17. YNet, please change "orthodox" to "ultraorthodox"...
Ezra ,   Canada   (11.21.06)
... I know for reading you regularly how poor his your jewish knowledge, but no orthodox-only would buy this ultraorthodox way. For the secular talkbackers, these guys make what they want in their neighbourhood and do what you want in yours. Nobody is asking you to become 'haredi !
18. isabella
charles ,   petach tikva   (11.21.06)
Why do you insult those lovely animals ? have they done something to you , that you compare those bipedes with beards and stramel to them . PS Pinguins live on the South pole .
19. this is not news
not news ,   New York, USA   (11.21.06)
This is not news. This is anti-Orthodox hate speech passing as journalism.
20. Enough is Enough
NYC Girl   (11.21.06)
Maybe it's time to offer these hyper-religious goons a one way ticket back to their ancestral homeland of Williamsburgh, Brooklyn where they can pull this sort of crap until the American Civil Liberties Union catches up with them.
21. Where are Gabriella and Kyle? Let's here them....
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (11.21.06)
defend this insanity. Perhaps the wise torah sage from Massachusetts, Reuven Brauner, has a thing or two to weigh in on? My argument is this: ban gays from peaceably marching today and this is what you get tomorrow.
22. Embarrassing, Stupid, Retarded Freaks
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (11.21.06)
Make wider sidewalks.
23. WE NEED A GAYPRIDE PARADE IN BET SHEMESH
BILL HANDEL ,   BROOKLYN, USA   (11.21.06)
We need to counter Orthodox pride with Gay Pride. That will teach them who's in charge!
24.  The group with most to lose
LN   (11.21.06)
by this disgusting element, is the observant community. Like with antisemitism, where hatred knows no boundaries, so the self hating jewish community is enjoying contaminating all brands of orthodoxy in their frenzy; all religious jews receive their vitriol, and I think they love the excuse, and they enjoy every moment of their hatred for us all. To Bet Shi(e)mu(e)sh - (hopefully one foul street or two)- many of us cherish and love Shabbat and Kashrut - but we loathe you.
25. hello Andy
charles ,   petach tikva   (11.21.06)
You ask where those two are ? Probably each one on another side of the street . There some others ! Do those Bipedes with beard and "stramel" think that they will get a little more sympathy , even from other religious people ? It happens probably in Ramat Beth Shemesh Bet , the ultra ultra orthodox , intolerant , stone throwers [ on non kosher buses ] neighborhood .
26. I'm here Andy !
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (11.21.06)
Since my opinion was requested i'd say 1) it's their issue, neither mine nor yours, so who cares? 2) so many tbackers bare such hatred/ignorance for hareidi, national religious and everything the like that i feel i'd rather abstain, cause in their (yours?) eyes its everything the same anyways 3) well, i definately don't like this idea of separate sidewalks. What if a woman needs to go to shull during a weekday ? no entrance? As kyle said they can make them broader if they step on one another. Sounds like the purpose of new stringencies are to boast some "holier than thou" thing. Definatelly Andy you can walk in the same walkway i do
27. Twisted Article
Abraham   (11.22.06)
No one forces you to walk anywhere. This is Liberals TWISTING the truth AGAIN! We have these signs in some neighborhoods here in the states. Whoever wants to follow them does. And THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIVE HOW THEY WANT TO. Mea Shearim, had this in place for hundreds of years.
28. #21 you rang?
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (11.21.06)
If you thought I was going to defend this retarded decision, "sorry" to disappoint you.
29. Total nonsense - wrong in SO many ways!
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (11.21.06)
There is absolutely NO historic precedence for such gender separation. It didn't exist in Temple times, and it didn't exist in Talmudic times; heck, it didn't exist in the shtetls of Eastern Europe either. Indeed, I know of NO instance of such separation in any Diaspora community. Places like Kiryas Joel in the US are moving in that direction though (they don't want their women driving either). There is a distinction in Jewish law between the private domain and the public domain. The sidewalks and storefronts belong to the public domain and are governed by established practice, as are public buses. If they don't like it, they can build their own gated communities in which their reactionary ideas can hold sway. The backlash is coming. Neither the modern orthodox - who also oppose this nonsense - nor the secular know yet how to deal with this. But the counter-reaction, when it comes, won't be pretty.
30. well they have to get some somehow
Mia ,   Jerusalem   (11.21.06)
I GUESS NOW THESE MEN WILL JUST START TURNING GAY. THEN WHAT WILL THEY DO?
