1. I don't believe it
Andras Bereny ,   Kfar Tapuah, Shomron   (11.28.06)
I dont't believe it 1.) 7 and 3 are magic numbers; 2.) I haven't seen the study but exclude that it can be done, caregoricaly. Andras Bereny, Shomron, Israel ----- A study conducted in Africa and published more than a year ago has shown that the chances of men who have been circumcised to be infected with AIDS during sexual intercourse with a woman carrying the virus are 70 percent lower than that of men who have not been circumcised. Another study held in Uganda revealed that circumcision also protects women from being infected with AIDS. According to the research findings, the chances of partners of men who have been circumcised and infected with the AIDS virus to be infected are 30 percent lower than the chances of partners of men who have not been circumcised.

4. Reasons for circumcision #1 I don't believe it
Petra ,   USA   (11.28.06)
You should, the studies are as real as the reasons for circumcision. The main reason is cleanliness. The religious reason is seperate. Another first the Jews brought the world, cleaner males. Males keeping themselves away from dangerous sex is another good reason.. circumcised or not.
5. AIDS
Bill Landau MD ,   Mexico city   (11.28.06)
The article doesn't explain how medicaly ciecumcision prevents AIDS. Can anyone explain this to me?

Maybe the thought that the next time they might get the full Lorena Bobbit treatment makes some men swear off sex?
11. LOL you people are so retarded
Eric Cartman ,   Colorado USA   (11.28.06)
Yes please teach us how to circumsise, lol, you should get a nobel prize. Cleaner males to the world? what are we animals to you? oh wait i know, we're goyim so it's kinda the same thing. I have one word for you, Evolution, Grow up
12. to #11
Mike ,   Atlanta, USA   (11.28.06)
Personally I would rather Israel and the Jews not do this for anyone, simply for the sake of perceptions. But to your point, many of us Jews just want our children to marry within our tribe. So please help us out by keeping your women, whether angels or animals, at bay. Thanks.
13. Israel is NOT one of the only countries ....
Noora ,   Bahrain   (11.28.06)

Not only do you circumcise men, but your people have extended this practice to women. I congratulations you for keeping a progressive religion.
15. #13 curious to know why Muslims circumcize
Curious ,   USA   (11.28.06)
do they have covenant like Abraham with God and does that link them religiously to Abraham? Before Islam, did Arabs circumcize?
16. To Eric Cartman: ur name suits u: fat, dumb, bigoted idiot

If ur uncircumcized, hope ur hygiene is better than most men and u wash down there every day. With ignorant cartoon characters like u around, u non-Jewish ladies better make sure u get that vaccine for cervical cancer TODAY.

Some of you people are starting to gross me out. I'm about to swear off sex, too. I think, I'll go to a more pleasant headline like "5 asshats blew themselves up" or something like that.

Noora ,   Bahrain   (11.28.06)
you are right Prophet Ibraheem is our prophet's Gradn-Grandfather and we highly respect him and call him " the father of Prophets" even during Pilgrimage to Mecca, we follow what Prophet Ibraheem did before Islam ....to Muslims Prophet Ibraheem was not a Jew he was a muslim before the name Islam exists which means he belives in one God so before Islam Arabs were either Jews, christians or Ibraheemes ( believe in one God) and this was what Prophet Mohammed's (PBU) family and tribe belive in.
19. Circumcision and HIV
Brian O Donnell ,   Boston USA   (11.28.06)
This just reenforces the problems with bias in this area of research and how difficult it becomes when religion and medicine mixes to reveal the truth. Circumcision is a permanently harmful surgery and the studies are there...British Journal of Urology 1996 Cold and Taylor ...that proves the foresking is an important part of the penis to insure full sexual sensation and function. Ignoring these facts and selling it to a desperate population is equivalent to LYING! Willful blindness is a prosecutorial offense. People have been in denial about the harms to babies and men since circumcisions inception. And the amount of harm has changed from bad to worse when people started removing more of the foreskin than they use to. It is time for the medical community and the jewish communtity to start being honest and to let adults decide if they want to sacrifice part of their sexual sensation and function for their religious beliefs or instead of using condoms fro protection from HIV. But continuing to force it on baby boys is a violation of human rights.

Take your complaint to the UN. You can have Israel condemned for this religious tradition.

are more merciful to babies and men and understand the human body better than G-d.
22. Yeah, but I'll bet female "circumcision" kicks AIDS way up.
sk ,   USA   (11.29.06)
Let's see ... where is the one place in the world where "hetero" AIDS is absolutely rampant? Africa. And where is female circumcision most common? Africa. Just wondering: how close to the first sex act does female circumcision typically occur?
23. #1 I dont believe it
isiah of buffalo ,   buffalo USA   (11.29.06)
The study they referred to can be found here: aids prevention study I found this on wikipedia on there article on Circumcision "If circumcision does protect against HIV transmission, the mechanism by which it does so is unclear. One possibility relates to Langerhans cells, a part of the human immune system. Szabo and Short suggest that Langerhans cells in the foreskin may provide an entry point for viral infection.[81] Three studies identified high concentrations of Langerhans and other HIV target cells in the human prepuce.[82][83][84] Additionally, McCoombe, Cameron, and Short found that the keratin is thinnest on the foreskin and frenulum.[85] Conversely, some authors believe that the prepuce has an important immunological function, and that its removal increases the chances of infections.[86] This hypothesis has been criticised on technical grounds.[87]" Perhaps in the future it would be better to try to research a subject for about a minute using Google and fail then trying to "believe" a study away.
24. Makes no Sense
Ron Low ,   Chicago, IL, USA   (11.29.06)
Sweden - HIV infection 0.1% Israel - HIV infection 0.1% Israel - circumcision 99% Sweden - circumcision 1% Now which sicko is cutting people to see if there's a correlation between AIDS and circ?
25. circumcision helps prevents cervical cancer.
johanna ,   tsfat   (11.29.06)
it is known that women who only have sex with men who are circumcised have very low or no incidents of cervical cancer. this is because the foreskin can be a trap for germs etc. obviously if men are very very scrupulous about washing themselves there and pulling the foreskin back properly and removing the smegna, then perhaps they are ok. but we all know that most men are not so scrupulous about personal hygiene!and if you live in a place which doesn't have such a clean water supply eg a lot of rural africa, where there often isn't clean drinking water never mind washing water, then even if the men are being very careful, the water itself could have contaminates. if circumcision helps to prevent cervical cancer then i am sure it can also prevent the spread of aids. nowhere does it say it prevents aids completely. it just says it helps to prevent it. surely an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure ?

charles ,   petach tikva   (11.29.06)
The part of Africa where women are being "circumcised" is not the same where Aids is so frequent . To those who say it diminish the male "jouissance" , not so true . Another advantage of circumcision : women like very much to have circumcisized partners ...
27. #18 okay, Noora, thanks for your view
Still confused ,   USA   (11.29.06)
However, lots of religions believe in one God, bt that doesn't make all believers Muslim. To say that Abraham was a Muslim is to revise biblical history and is a very narcissistic way of looking at world religions. I am supposedly descended from Abraham too but I am not a Muslim. Don't you have to be descended from Mohammed to be a Muslim? By your logic, all descedants from Abraham including Jesus and Mohammed are Muslims, and that is clearly not case and you can go ask the Christians and the Jews. I appreciate the link Muslims have with Abraham, but I don't really buy your argument. Sorry.
28. Circumscision
leah amdur ,   Jerusalem Israel   (11.29.06)
No. 11 Eric I am happy for you, you believe that your ancestors were apes, that is most probably true I on the other hand believe I am descended from Adam ha rishon the first man, and that Hashem breathed His neshoma into me and that all men are made in the image of Hashem. If you want to believe that you are descended from an ape and that makes you happy. Then be happy with evolution
29. Circumcision - and #19, give me a break
lauryn ,   new york   (12.02.06)
I agree with the other posters who said that the article did not explain how this proposition might be the case. Even though circumcision does, yes, keep the penis cleaner, I don't understand how the germs caught in the foreskin would be the germs actually coming out of the penis. Do the liquids get spread around in ways that they would actually dirty the foreskin? However, #19, circumcision is NOT a "harmful" surgery, does not decrease sensation, DOES increase cleanliness, and does not "harm" babies or men. If it actually does decrease the risk of AIDS, then it should certainly be noted as such, along with, of course, doing much more to encourage condom usage and to increase womens' abilities to support themselves so that they do not feel forced to resort to prostitution or to stay with a disloyal husband. Even if condoms are not so commonly used in some parts of the world, NO ONE said circumcision should be INSTEAD of condoms, so read a little closer next time.
