Mark ,   USA   (11.29.06)
The inaction of the Quartet created a detrimental influence on people hoping for peace . I blame the 4 members of the Quartet. EU UN USA RUSSIA The world has done NOTHING. I am sick of hearing the world complain about this 58 year old conflict. They NEED TO SOLVE IT NOW!! Blood is on their hands as well for doing NOTHING!!
3. Yes, the Palestinians can only win...
Matthias Roth ,   Switzerland   (11.29.06)
... since Israel will be obliged to do the really painful concessions and will have the pay the bill! And afterwards, if the Palestinians have their own state, they can resume their attacks on the Jewish state.
4. we should always embrase peacful guestures
Sameer S Reehani ,   Houston,Tx U S A   (11.29.06)
I couldn"t possibly agree more with Mr.hanania"s article.Palestinians should always find ways to embrase any guestures that are coming out of Israel. And ,why not?How worse can it get?.I always say,"enough of all of this politics," mumbo ,jumbo".Go a head ,give it a try ,it is not going to bite.

Why can't we all just hold hands and sing kumbaya? If only we could sit with the majority of arabs who voted in the genocidal maniacs known as Hamas, and have cookies and milk and hug it out! The mental disease that paralyzes Israel and has bamboozled the masses is the root cause of our inability to rectify the situation.
7. Is Olmert Peace Real?
Ed Banks ,   New York, USA   (11.29.06)
Olmert's haphazard statements are dishonest and definitely not believable at best. This man and his racist Lieberman are not serious at making peace with his neighbors. As long as Bush and extremists fanatics in US are sending money and weapons to kill defenseless Palestainians and steal their lands, Olmert can say anything and get away with it. I can bet a million dollars if I have it that Olmert has no intention of honoring any of those peace statements. So why didnt' he made the same dumb statements when the Israelis soldier was kidnapped few months ago? Having killed more than a 5000 Palestainians and taken more than 10,000 hostages as negotiating chips, destroying more than 5000 homes, how can anyone believe this man? It is evil not to see this kind of evil by one powerful nation against the weaker nation. If Israel really wanted peace, they could have accepted the frivolous Road Map, they could have supported Mamoud Abbas instead of sabortaging him till the extremist Hamas took over. When Arafat was alive, Israel claimed they did not have a partner, after the man was killed, so why didn't Israel support Abbas? So this is not really about who rules the Palestainians, it is about Israel's insatiable appetite to kill the Palestainians, steal their land and destrong their home. I pray they drink enough of Palestainians blood and get satisfied someday, so that we can have peace and use our tax dollars for peaceful purposes instead killing people.
8. #4 Blessed are the Peace-Makers
Mark ,   USA   (11.29.06)
Let peace begin with a small gesture. Just 1.
10. Ed Banks, Its hatefilled views like yours....
J   (11.29.06)
That makes progressive people like myself to want to keep working for peace in the region. And that starts with not demonizing any group of people. That includes Israelis or Palestinians. How do your rants contribute to bringing peace in the region? Or are you intentionally trying to polarize people ?
11. Peace??
Kal Shelby ,   USA   (11.29.06)
I would suggest that you go live as a Palestinian for a week, try to travel anywhere in the West Bank or Ghaza, try to provide safe passage to your sick family member to reach a clinic through all the check points, or as a student try to go to school (see how long it would take you to go from Ramalla to Bir Zeit University {should take 15 minutes} and now hours). Finally, a question should be posed to the Israeli people to see if they would "accept" what ever "peace" conditions/offering that Olmert is proposing. Once you have done that please rewrite it with a little bit of onus on the Israeli government and Israeli people who seem to always vote in governments who abdicate being "tougher"!
12. Kal Shelby
J   (11.29.06)
I suggest you go live as an Israeli for a week in Sderot, and try to go to school and see how inconvienient it is to have to go to a bomb shelter because extremists are trying to pelt you with quassam rockets. Maybe then after someone goes and lives in both situations they can experience the pain on both sides of the conflict, and can actually see the need for peace. Shalom Salaam Peace
13. Making progress but not there yet
Steve ,   USA   (11.29.06)
B"H The Jews have returned to their mandated homeland to observe G-d's commandments and fulfill G-d's promise. In order to fully do so, the service needs to be conducted on the Jewish Temple Mount, the same mount that Abraham went to to bind Isaac with Ismael his attendant at some distance as witness, the same area that sits as the center of dispute. The dispute is a Jewish one as well as a Muslim one. Do we as Jews have the will and means to conduct the biblically-mandated service there as in ages previous? It is G-d's land, and G-d mandates this service. Yet there is another people that sits on the mount with its anger directed against the Jews. Is this not also G-d's wrath directed against us Jews? How can we tell the difference? Right now the Arabs are the one who are permitted to worship destruction for the Jews on the mount and the Jews are not allowed to perform the mandated service by the UN, the Waqf, Iran, and Jordan to start with. To even pray with the lips is strictly forbidden by the Muslim authority that has been set upon the Jews to prevent the service from being practiced as mandated. This is thousands of years now that the Jews have been prevented from performing this service, a consequence of G-d's Decree in practice as well as the world's intransigence and the behavior of the Jews that led to temporary expulsion from that mount. Ray asks, "Is Olmert peace plan real?" Ray, in the mindset of the Middle East, no plan is real until it actually occurs. Everything is a trick, like those Jews who were offered homes from the last uprooting and were not given any permanent dwellings after. I see Olmert's intentions of uprooting more Jews as very genuine. His true intentions do not seem positive for the Jewish people at all in the short term. It does not even depend on whether you "embrace" the peace gesture or not, because its basis is hate between one Jew and another and not whether there is peace between the Jews and the Arabs. It simply depends on whether he has the political means to carry it out. You embrace that gesture and you embrace the removal of Jews from your midst. That then empowers your Hamas government to pour destruction in on your heads first, because the basis of the Hamas body is bigotry against the Jews. But naturally that bigotry also extends over the Arabs. Plus the Jews who lived among you face Olmert's wrath for having lived with you in relative peace. Later Olmert or his cronies will get his revenge. Think about it. If this is the way he is treating his fellow Jews who show willingness to dwell nearby you, what does he have in store for the Arabs next? Similarly for Hamas. The most level-headed thing I can thing of is to embrace the Jews in their midst. That IS true peace. And similarly, why should one Jew throw out another? To face more attacks by outside countries? We as Jews need to live and move forward with what we have and not take part in these rediculous scenes. A resolution can only come from the ground up and not the top down as I see it. That means both Jews and Arabs need to stop falling for the tricks of the governments set over them and start to take responsibility for themselves. This is the only I see of achieving a resolution. Stop asking for peace from those who cannot provide it, but rather practice peace among those who can.
14. Re #11: Cannot easily do so as a Jew
Steve ,   USA   (11.29.06)
B"H Dear Kal, The Hamas government has outlawed my existance and made it "illegal" on any territory it can point a gun on. I would say that the declared imposition by Hamas is greater than that of Israel. That makes what you propose very dangerous for a Jew like myself, but definately worthwhile if it can be achieved.
15. Is Olmert Peace Plan Real?
sam ,   ny   (11.29.06)
#13. A lot of blabber! Let the Jews live where ver they want to live including west bank and gaza and let the Palestinians live where ver they want including tel aviv and jaffa! that will deefinitely solve the problem. also demilitarize every body. killing each other does not solve the problem.
16. Ray, need more proof? How shameful of Olmert!
Steve ,   USA   (11.30.06)
B"H If Ray needs any more proof to see that this is an internal Jewish dispute, here it is. The police cannot find a rapist in Tel Aviv, so they move to Tzvat?! That is just slandar against the Hereidi community that is put in place. "Credible claims" are absolutely rediculous. It is political spin against the Hereidi community. I can see why Arabs do not trust Olmert. But rest assured the Jews have more to distrust than the Arabs do, and his "offer" is more against the Jews than it is "for" the Arabs or "for" peace even. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/news.php3?id=116554 Quote: Sela Manhunt Moves to Tzfat 22:30 Nov 29, '06 / 8 Kislev 5767 (IsraelNN.com) The manhunt for convicted serial rapist Benny Sela shifted from the Greater Tel Aviv area to Tzfat on Wednesday. Police were responding to credible reports that prompted the decision to relocate the focus of the manhunt to Tzfat, reporting he is hiding disguised as a Hareidi-Orthodox Jew in the northern city’s ultra-Orthodox community.
17. Please award Ed #7 the extremists' "Nut Case" award for ...
Stewart ,   USA   (11.30.06)
his rehtoric. Oh, yeah. We Jews just yearn for the blood of Palestinians. I suppose you'll next accuse us of baking it into our matzahs. Why don't you go crawl back into your hole with your anti semetic friend, "Calypso Louie" Farakhan. You sound just like him. Furthermore, Abbas never got support because he never got it from his own nation. It was taken over by terrorists like Hamas and Hezbolla which made Abbas a paper leader. How do you negotiate with someone undermined by internal factions trying to take over control of the Palestinians from underneath him. Abbas has no control over the terrorists so how can he lead the Palestinians to peace with Israel. Until factions within Palestine support Abbas and let him negotiate a peace settlement, he has little credibility as a leader one can count on.

SIMPLY DO NOT TRUST THE MAN.
22. Olmert
INGRAM   (11.30.06)
May be the man is a lot smarter than he is given credit. His behaviour is so cravenly leftwing ,pretending to be a selfhating Jew, that he is seen to want to destroy Israel by giving in to Arabs, Euopean and now to the Arabist US state department. However his role as BORAT can only go so far. He has to come up with real policies and people who aid Israel. Otherwise people will think that his parody is for real !
23. PA fulfilled "Roadmap" obligations?

Exactly what part of "dismantling terror organizations" (like Hamas) and "immediate stop to all attacks" did they fulfill?

"agree to international conditions such as the “Road Map” (which they have already basically done); "... And HOW exactly have they done that??? Can't you get a point across for once without pulling lies out of your ass...? Otherwise , I agree with the jist of the article. (Although, no, Israel will not apologize for the refugees. Like I said before numerous times, they chose to evacuate. Maybe Jordan and Lebanon should apologize for that...)
25. To my misguided friend from Chicago, #11
Ray Hanania ,   Chicago, IL USA   (12.01.06)
I love how everyone saws you can't offer good ideas unless you go there and live and suffer. Really? Is that why all the extremists live in the United States driving their big cars, living int heir big homes, operating liquor stores by day and preaching about the evils of the infidels? The writer is someone who I have long admired. A good person gone astray. Always tried to do the right thing, but never could get support in a community built on hatred, self-destruction and infighting. And then he finally gets a break and what happens, he gets nailed. You're a smart person Khalil. But you are hanging around with the wrong people. And I have to ask int he 30 years we have known each other, what have you done that is any better? I wish you and your family well, but the fact is my family DOES live in the occupation everyday in Bethlehem, Ramallah and Beit Jala. I stay with them every trip. I know what they go through. I also know that while they do suffer, they hate the failed leadership of the fanatics, Hamas, the violence and the hate-speech that always blames the Israelis and the "Jews" for everything. They live their oppressive live sbut the difference is they are not hypocrites to blame everything on Israel. They know Hamas has helped destroy their chances for peace and that the Jabha rejectionists have blocked everything, playing the refugees like favored footballs. So thanks for the advice Khalil. But I think you should focus on yourself. And if you wan tot do something good for the community, do it the right way instead of the selfish political way of the people who surround you. You are a good person. Stop hanging around with the losers. We're all in the news media. I prefer the way I am. Ray Hanania www.hanania.com
26. to Steve #14
(12.01.06)
Dear Steve, Hamas did not outlaw your ability to visit the West Bank. I know many Jews who have very recently traveled throughout the West Bank, even with Hamas in power. I myself returned from a trip to the West Bank, granted I am a Christian, but a white American nonetheless. Addtionally, as I said many of my Jewish American friends traveled thorughout the West Bank as well, one even spent several days living with a Muslim family. Rather it is the Israeli government that prevents Israeli Jews from entering into Area A of the West Bank, fortunantely the Israeli government cannot prevent American Jews from doing the same. So my friend before you speak your mind please learn your facts so you don't look like an idiot.
28. Ray a more apt title.. Is Hamas peace plan for real...
freedom ,   canada   (12.06.06)
Now you have it right.. I was waiting for your piece on the burning of the five christian churches in the west bank.. Surely, people wanted to see what youre thoughts were on that.... Just a thought, its always good to stir up the pot isnt it..
