Report: Hamas demands Barghouti's release in Shalit deal     Ali Waked
1.  Barghouti's release
Hamas can request all they want, however, Barghouti is a terrorist with bloodon his hands and was convicted in a civilian court. Barghouti needs to rot in prision till he dies.
jeremy ,   Upper Galilee   (11.30.06)
2. Olmert & Livni destroyed the Jewish State
Israel as we knew it no longer exists. At this point we can expect a cascade of concessions from the demands of Egypt, Meshal, Nasrallah, Assad, Rice, Baker, Carter and anyone else who wants a piece of what's left. The damage by Olmert & Livni is close to irreversible. If they stay in power another two months Israel as a state is headed for a brick wall at 200 MPH. The lack of protests demonstrates that Israelis have lost their desire to live as free people in a Jewish state.
malcolm   (11.30.06)
3. If it Israel actually does this it deserves to be destroyed.
What's the point in supporting a country that wants to destroyed?

5. a nat'l shame. releasing a murderer of 60 israeli civilians
aaron ,   ra'anana   (11.30.06)
6. Disproportional Response
For those out there who believe that Israel must adhere to the media infused notion and refrain from "disproportionate response" - let's hear your cries now that the Palestnians are insisting on disproportionate response. Where is the media screaming for the justifiable "soldier from the ranks in exchange for a soldier from the ranks" in order to maintain a "proportional" response. Obviously, justice is not an issue for the same "human rights" activists and blinkered politicians, and "disproportionate response" does not apply to the Palestinians.
jps ,   Efrat   (11.30.06)
7. Olmert will release Barghouti, because he's a good boy
Hani ,   Montreal, Canada   (11.30.06)
8. Where Is Our "Partner For Peace"???
Who can believe that Abu Mazen, with 35,000 security police, cannot free Shalit? Is this the "partner for peace" with whom we made a ceasefire? Our gov't is stupid beyond belief. If they free that murderer, then they will have proven that they have no honour, this is really as low as we can sink. I'm getting sicker by the day watching this incompetant gov't ruin our country.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (11.30.06)
9. Why not KILL both !!!
Thats the point both sides want (kill the enemy) BUT They cant. ITS A PROBAGANDA WAR. IF WE ARE NOT ENOUGH TO KILL OUR ENEMY ! WE DONT DESERVE THE BLOODS WE GAVE OUT. Look at me. Very Human. But, WHAT HAS TO DONE, WHAT MUST DONE. MOTHERS ARE ALRADY DEAD. DONT KILL THEM EVERY EACH DAY. Atilla Karagözoğlu

10. Release Bargouti & recapture him if he misbehave again
John ,   NZ   (11.30.06)
11. Do Not Run
In today, No Honest war In today, No honest war In today, No Honest enemy If one of them was my brother or two I would give permission for both to get kill. Why? We got to face the war, IF WE ARE RIGHT. If they present of the enemy, If You lost lives.... WHY PLAYING POLITCS ON THEM ? Take them in your court. Pur your arm into your heart. Than give the final decision. No matter they have your brother also. ONE HAS TO START TO BE SERIOUS. But, to forgive, if its possible, is better. The God Loves Men, Who forgives others. Stop playing F.ucking games. Politics made us sick...sick Atilla Karagözoğlu
Atilla Karagözoğlu ,   Istanbul / Turkey   (11.30.06)
12. The Israel Judicial System
tried and convicted Barghouti. By freeing him will make a mockery of the judicial system in Israel. Why bother? let's all run amok because the courts and the judges in this country will be null and void. Our soldiers need to be returned to us immediately and we can give them a few minor losers in our prison cells.
Israel   (11.30.06)
13. "most Israeli ministers do not oppose Barghouti's release"
A national disgrace. I am the biggest Zionist but I am thinking about boycotting Israel myself if this dangerous nonsense continues.
Jenny   (11.30.06)
14. And Ron Arad and the rest?

16. #8 You are not looking for Partner
actually you are looking for some one who will surrender.YOU WILL NEVER FIND ONE !
(11.30.06)
17. Most ministers do oppose his release
London-based al-Hayat newspaper reports that most ministers do not oppose Barghoutis release????? How did they arrive at this assumption......did they phone any of the ministers and aske them??? NO.......What a pack of propaganda lies, amd why does Ynet print such bribble.
Jay ,   Israel   (11.30.06)
18. Abu Mazen and IDF (#8)
Why should the "abu mazen forces" be able to do something that the IDF can't and has been failing to do for the last 6 months? Think abou your words before writing them, pal! Me
Me ,   World   (11.30.06)
19. Without proof that Shalit is alive all talk is meaningless!
If Hamas, the PA or whomever does not offer concrete proof that Shalit is alive then all talk of negotiation is meaningless. One would have to say what is going on now is simply a political charade as even Olmert who is a lawyer by trade knows that you have to provide proof that you have something to ‘trade’ before any negotiation can even start. The Palestinians have not provided such proof so this does not bode well !
redmike ,   tel aviv & london   (11.30.06)
20. Reply #16&#18 re: Abu Mazen
I don't think that Abu Mazen is any kind of partner, I think he's irrelevant. He is afraid to act against terrorists & has nothing to offer us. It is not possible that he cannot find & release Shalit. On the other point, the IDF should have gone into Gaza with 50,000 troops, eliminated the entire Hamas leadership, & taken control of the Philadelphia corridor. While disarming Gaza, including Abu Mazen's security forces, they may have been able to find Shalit. We did not need a ceasefire nor do we need negotiations with terrorists. If America did not support Abu Mazen, it would be a good idea to send him into exile in Egypt. It's just not politically possible unfortunately. Our gov't is weak & ineffectual but hopefully that will change after the next elections & before they can do any more damage to our security. & I can assure you that I don't think we will ever find a "partner for peace" with the Palestinians & our best option is to enforce security measures for the foreseeable future.

21. Prisinor Exchange
1,400 arab prisinors released for 1 israeli? Shows the value Israel has for its citizens. Those making stupid comments about being not worht it should ask what would Mr Bush do to get them out of a hell hole if they were in one?
Sean ,   London, England   (11.30.06)
22. Saddam should be allowed free
letting Barghoutti free is like allowing saddam free... would the USA consider it? NO WAY!!!! Why would htey let him free? because the iraqis are terrorizing? no way? why would we let bargohti free? because the arabs are terroizing? you must be nuts to let this animal out
moti ,   rbs   (11.30.06)
23. #jeremy
...and jeremy of course couldn't care two hoots if Gilad Shalit rots in a Hamas dungeon as a consequence of jeremy's brave and legitimate stance
Michael ,   Haifa   (11.30.06)
24. First: Free Shalit, Then: Talk
Never happen. The terrorists can't produce Shalit alive.
emanon ,   USA   (11.30.06)
25. With Olmert & Co. wouldn't you make the same demands?
LEE ,   NY, USA   (11.30.06)
26. THE COUNTRY STRIKES?
How come the whole nation can shut down almost instantly when it comes to union strikes demanding money, but nobody moves a finger to strike demanding national security and worthy leadership? Where is the Israel that I knew?
LEE ,   NY, USA   (11.30.06)
27. reply to michael
Michael I do care. However, there are a lot of other people that can be released before a killer, convicted in a civial court is released. Besides, that is why we are having negitations, they make demands, we make them too. However, Barghouti should not be released, not unless, the families of his victims agree first.
jeremy   (11.30.06)
28. Free Barghouti
What about the 3 missing soldiers for Barghouti????
Ros ,   Tel Aviv   (11.30.06)
29. Since when do terror groups make demands?
What they should be doing is begging for their lives. Israel has gone soft on terror and now they think they have rights and leverage to make demands? What the hell!!!
DR ,   Florida, USA   (11.30.06)
30. Barghouti release a bargin?
As Israel attempts to work towards peace, the Palestinian group Hamas has other non-so peaceful ideas. With the release of 1400 prisoners including known murderers, for release of one innocent Israeli soldier is an insult to not only the Jewish community but the non-Jewish society. Playing with the peace and stablization of the Middle East with such blantant unrealistic expectations will not bring peace but further the terrorist cause of destroying Israel Barghouti has proved he is not a player in the peace-process
