At least Islam poreserves the honor of a women. At least, we know who is the father of our children. We are proud that we have no step fathers, biological fathers, and all this BS you have back there in the US!! Islam protects the women, and does not treat her as a commodity as you do! It is a matter of culture. This is our culture, and we love it this way. Your culture is corrput and very far from any teaching of Jesus or any one else. I come from an Arab country & women are generally treated like domestic animals. They are forced into arranged marriage, receive less education, do all the work in the house, get beat up by husbands, are divorced & thrown out of the house with no resources. Luckily, where I come from, at least there were no "honour killings" or very few. Shall I go on? Sure why not? Girls were thrown out of their houses & became prostitutes as did divorced women - by the thousands. The city was full of them. Most men cheated on their wives with younger girls. Married women were also looking for extra-marital affaires maybe just to get some attention. Men would leave their wives in the car while they went to have coffee with their friends. Prostitutes were frequently beat up & not paid or better, tricked into having sex with three men. How about men who took second wives without even telling the first wife? That's a nice surprise. Women were tought from childhood to think of themselves as a commodity & were very mercenary. Many young men went out with older men for money but also because they no longer "trusted" modern style girls. How about young girls in the workplace, guess what was often part of their job description? Shall I go on? I could write a book. Sure, I am not talking about 100% of the people, there were people who were not at all like this. But everything I'm saying was so common that I can generalize. You should be ashamed to pretend that Islam offers women (or anyone for that matter) a decent life. It is self-rightous hypocrisy like yours that makes change so impossible.

Yes, I wrote the wrong number. My comment was directed to #11 ... It's hard to believe that anyone would defend Islamic and/or Arab treatment of women but I guess it's part of a wider lack of objectivity in criticising a society based on a totalitarian ideology with no respect for human rights, not just for women, but basically for everyone. I could tell you stories that would make your hair stand on end. Yet, it's amazing that when you live within this kind of system, you become numb to the abuses you see all around you. I believe that the author should leave aside this BS subject and concentrate more about helping the palestinians achieve their basic needs first , build their country , think about the well being of the population and then think about sex. Life is nice when everything has been achieved and sex comes as the salt & pepper. Until then there is a long road to happiness , sex comes after.

Arabs are living in "developing" countries, whether rich or poor, we have to admite this. Their behaviour is not completely controled by religion, but greatly affected by their traditions as well. what our intelectuals should do is to advise people to adher to the religious morality instead of the cultural or traditional ones. In place of attacking their religion, it is for your interst and theirs to encourage them to adher to their religion. Female "circumcission" is almost abondened in muslim communities. This "tradition" has pharonic and african roots, not islamic.
