1. Baker
Jane   (12.06.06)
Another dose of Arabist stupidity from the man who gave us "Madrid". The only person sympathetic to Israel on the commission is Larry Eagleburger, and he's only a member because Gates resigned to replace Rumsfeld. It is just so predictable that Israel would yet again become the sacrificial lamb at the alter of Arabist pandering. It has never and will never bring peace, but they keep doing the same thing. Perhaps there should be a commission to investigate why the US keeps utilizing the bad services of these same people.
2. TIMELY DESIGNED ADVICE
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (12.06.06)
A face-saving scenerio.Even a common man understands the need for American forces to get out of Iraq at the earliest.Well documented findings and in time for a face saving retreat for Bush...........who finds it difficult to sit face to face with the Iranians having called them all sorts of names in his blind and misguided policy in the Middle East.
3. Selloout of Israel
Sam Weinstein ,   USA   (12.06.06)
Sounds like a Baker Sellout to the Saudis to me. Sell Israel down the river is what the commission is saying. Something smells rotten in denmark Saudi Money and influence is the key to a lot of our diplomatic problems now. Saudi Money flowing into Universities, and also think tanks as well as other areas and buisness interest have tried to turn the tied from of public sentiment from Israel to the Arabs. One of the ways to fight this is to get our own Billionaires which Israel has at least one or two to start doing the same thing to counter this influence. Also investigate and expose those Saudi Money trails to the Universities, buisness interest, and think tanks and also to individuals if there is evidence.
4. DuuuuuHHHH!!
malcolm   (12.06.06)
Baker & his buddies (including "Apartheid" Jimmy Carter) have been drooling over the Golan for decades.
5. Oh Anjd...Olmert & Livni are on board for the sellout too
malcolm   (12.06.06)
6. Longer than WW2?
SAM ,   USA   (12.06.06)
Interesting analogy. What about Viet Nam? Was WW2 longer than Viet Nam? How about Korea? The Sudan? What is needed is a real, viable solution. Just pulling out like we did in Viet Nam and having the country fall in a matter of weeks means we lose again because of the politicians. Why is there a problem with the moderate Arab countries helping resolve this matter? Why can't they send in troops to quell the violence and why can't they come up with a comprehensive solution? Why the US...AGAIN!!!! The US is dammed if we do and and dammed if we don't. That is the way it has been in the middle east and the US.
7. punnel can go f*** him self
an Israeli ,   Please Post   (12.06.06)
There he sits a brutal tyrant in Syria, from which his father had tried to over throw Jordan's king, his father and him have been terrorizing Lebanon, and we are suppose to bow down and give him a high piece of land that they had only been consistently using to launch attacks on Israeli Kibitzes and towns and villages until 67. We have given them back the Golan Heights before, in '48 war, and they continued to attack us from it. So in '67 war we've had enough! And frankly, I've had enough of the American hypocrisy! You can go shove it! These days every tyrant can get his way, no matter what. The Golan Heights are not an occupied territory. No one lives there under occupation, everyone is a civilian there with full rights, and it is the most famous secret in Israel that the Arab citizens in it are terrified by the suggestion of being brought back to Assad, and can't say that because the know he'll have their heads the minute they're back at his power, if they so much as seem not to be loyal to him. But they are full citizens and some friends of mine as well. Don't be impressed by Olmert & Peretz's statements on the matter. I voted for Peretz but the Golan issue was not on the election's agenda, and they have no right to offer it because it has no mandate for that. We will never evacuate from the Golan. NEVER. There're no occupied Palestinians there. It is striving and peaceful like it never had been under the Assads. They only used it to export death to our homes, while we use it to grow plantations, and sheep and other farms. Bush and this despicable Baker of his can go shove it. As far as they are concerned, they're willing to pretend Assad has the right to the Golan just to serve their interest, and I don't know where they get the nerve to ask us to evacuate thousands of people so that we'll be under rocket threats from the Golan as well as Lebanon and Gaza. They're saying: so what? It's not like you haven't done it beforeā€¦ so risk some more lives and tear apart your people's lives just so your sons will have to go get killed in a few years to stop the rockets. When Assad wants real peace, he'll settle for compensation for the Golan if he wants, or renting of some form like has been done to settle disputes through peace all over the world! He has more than enough land; his country is huge, while we on the other hand are being pressed from all sides. We will not submit to him and make him the ruler of the Lebanon and Iran an him the rulers of the region and the Americans can go shove it.
8. Vietnam II
Nora ,   Tel Aviv   (12.06.06)
Let`s imagine what went really on between the President and Mr. Baker`s team at that famous lunch: -Mr. President, with all due respect, we advise you to get out of Vietnam, OOOPS ... IRAQ, and the hell for the domino effect. Our boys are dying there. -Gentlemen, what about the ME oil ? - Mr. President, we should try to approach peacefully Iran through Syria. -And Israel? -Pressure, pressure will do, Mr. President. -Yeah, yeah.
9. Stop bashing the Saudis!!!
Mark ,   USA   (12.06.06)
We have been waiting for so many years for a peace partner. The peace partner offers peace and what do people do? Complain!!! Stop that behavior and work with the Saudis. You need to work with all Arabs and treat them with some respect. They deserve respect!!
10. #2 Name Calling is Bad Diplomacy
Mark ,   USA   (12.06.06)
Mr. Bush incites leaders. He is responsible for the fighting in the Mid-East. He refuses to engage in normal diplomacy. How many leaders have to ask that he get actively involved in his own "Road Map". He wants war because he profits from war!
11. Why are so many people against peace
Mark ,   USA   (12.06.06)
12. Bull crap!!!
Natan ,   USA   (12.06.06)
The US has invaded Iraq based on UN resolution and their belief that Iraq had WMDs. It, later on, became an operation to create a democracy. Later it became part of the "global war on terror". At what point was Israel the reason for invading Iraq???? Now, as the US sank in deep crap in Iraq, it will use Israel to pull itself out!!! And no one is better in selling Israel then Mr. "arabist" James Baker...This commission is full of crap!!!
13. #9 LOL
Sam Weinstein ,   USA   (12.06.06)
Your Funny and your comments are nonsense. The Saudis are the problem
14. George Bush is a threat to world peace!
Mark ,   USA   (12.06.06)
15. #13 You need to change your attitude!
Mark ,   USA   (12.06.06)
How can Arabs make peace with people like you who are against peace? You need to thank Saudi Arabia for helping the peace process. I did. Thank you Saudi Arabia.
16. #13 The problem is Bush/Cheney!
Mark ,   USA   (12.06.06)
They have created terrorism and have been actively spreading it. They support the terrorists in Iran. They want Iran to go nuclear. Read alternative media as well.
17. so in other words, terror around the world is israel's fault
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (12.06.06)
the message this sends to terrorists: you have every excuse for committing your terror because your terror is justified. how can we expect muslims to finally take personal responsibility for their actions (instead of blaming and excusing what they do on others) to curb the terror epidemic sweeping the globe when their excuses are now validated? what they are saying (and what the islamists will understand) is that israel is the root of the world's problems and, therefore, how does one solve this problem? seems that hitler also asked this question.
18. they blame Israel for this now....
Kofi ,   UN   (12.06.06)
the US is haveing trouble on all fronts while they give it to Israel in the rear. the truth is they areno better then the UN .

20. #9 - The Saudis deserve a kick in the teeth
(12.06.06)
for exporting terrorism all over the world. Who the hell do you think finances all the Islamic fundamentalists all over the world? But the subject of the article is about talks with Syria. What a bad idea! If Syria really wants peace, they can give up claims to the Golan. In any case, peace treaties with the Arabs are less valuable than toilet paper. Even our famous peace with Egypt is just an intermission while they build up their military. We will get nothing out of peace with Syria. And America can find someone else to sacrifice because of their failed policy in Iraq.
21. #16 The problem is American Republicans
Stacie ,   Canada   (12.06.06)
The recommendation contains not one, but two calls for the President to declare that "the United States does not seek to control Iraq's oil". Looks like the cost of the invasion has exceeded potential oil profits to me, wretched Republicans. It also looks like IDF atrocities are about to be reigned in by their true Commander in Chief, George Bush.
22. Main supporter of terror: Saudi family
Itzik ,   Haifa   (12.06.06)
Terrorists need money, weopons, banks, etc. These all is provided by Saudi family. The family hopes that giving money to terrorists they will be able play in casinos of Europe. Now Baker thinks that US people will be able play in casinos if they use the same strategy.
23. The Arab world doesn't care if Arabs murder Arabs.
Elana ,   LA, USA   (12.06.06)
Baker and company expects America and Israel to BRIBE the Arab world to get Arabs to stop slaughtering Arabs in Iraq. Only the west cares if Arabs murder Arabs. The Arab willingness to slaughter each other is a bad sign of what they're willing to do to NON-Arabs, especially Jews. It may be possible to contain people who are this wild, but you don't offer to let them sleep in your bed. Baker has always been anti-Israel. He's useless. He should retire and shut the hell up.
24. TO MARK
megi ,   london   (12.06.06)
do not speak bad about bush. for me he is a hero. we will never forget what he did for us. he tried but everything happen for a reason.
25. #15 The Truth Hurts
Sam Weinstein ,   USA   (12.06.06)
My attitude is fine and what I am saying is that they are major part of the problem. Just look and see how they treat Jews in text books and TV shows there. The Saudi Connection is a big problem and has to be stopped
26. # 13...Get off the board Mark, USA
Rich ,   USA   (12.06.06)
You are too stupid and biased to post here....this board is for grown-ups.
27. To #2 Mahmood: Your comments are typical from Londonistanis!
KMR ,   Middle East   (12.06.06)
28. To Mark
Shai ,   Israel   (12.06.06)
In summary, the Saudi Peace Plan is something like this: Israel allows Palestinian refugees and their descendants to move into Israel, pulls out of the entire west bank, Gaza and Old Jerusalem except for the Jewish Quarter (which is about 1/7 of Old Jerusalem, and most of the Arab states will establish relations. In short, all that Arabs needed to achieve diplomatically what they couldn't achieve through war, the destruction of Israel and cementing in place the pan arab nationalist vision of Arab ruled states along the entire Gulf and southern medeteranean rim. Mark, wouldn't a real peace plan address israel's security interests, ensure the continuation of a Jewish state, resolve the refugee issue within the new palestinian state, allow negotiation of boundaries so that Jews and Palestinians can rule over themselves and not each other, and require a REAL reproachment with Arab countries, not just the cold peace like we have with Egypt? Of course it would, and those are elements of all the OTHER peace plans that have come and gone, from Resolution 242 to Madrid to Oslo to the Quartet plan, etc, all of which Israel signed on to but the Arabs and the Saudis did NOT. Saudis are peaceful? Nope. I'm not fooled - I can see the differences you can't between what they offered and what the other plans offered. The reason that those other plans weren't accepted is that they are willing to countenance a Jewish state in the Middle East forever. Arab Muslims are opposed to that, and any agreement that doesn't at least offer them the hope of israel's destruction and doesn't foist the blame for all that's happened over the last 100 years on others than themselves, they'll just dig in their heals until people like you grab for what they're offering out of desparation. They have always thought time was on their side. People like you have never given them a reason to think otherwise.
29. #6 because the US started this sh*t
Merlin ,   USA   (12.06.06)
that is why you will not see any Muslim or Arab coming to help. this was not a favor to them if you will... you talk like as if this problem was there alrasy and we went to fix it!!!! we created the problem so we are stuck with it. Iranians are now laughing all the way to the bank because we gave them Iraq in a silver platter!
30. #24 I voted him. I am sorry I did.
Mark ,   Usa   (12.06.06)
He is trying to destroy Israel. He encourages Israel to take military actions just to provoke the Arab countries into demonzing Israel. The military route has been a disaster.
