32. shoddy reporting
tennyson ,   Miami FL   (12.12.06)
this article is a joke and stinks of Izzy Leibler. I suppose Israel singer should volunteer his time travel economy class and stay at the motel six get his suits at K-mart and negotiate with heads of states. and if he needs to pay for luch use his ATM check card. Leave his wife a home for a few weeks ...very productive work atmosphere. Seems Ynet and Grayevsky are sharing thier fact checking department with the National Enquirer
33. Singer is entitled?
Ronen ,   NY   (12.12.06)
If I understand correctly Singer's friends, it is OK because he did not steal from the Claims Conference. He merely took money from the WJC. And he is perfectly entitled to take whatever he wants from the WJC. It may be charitable funds, but so what? In his eyes, he is the WJC. The WJC is him. WJC money are his. So why shouldn't he take out $ 1.2 million - since when does he need approval? What is wrong taking out $ 671,000 in cash without reporting how he used it. And of course, it is perfectly understandable why he was able to spend in one year over half a million dollars on travel for him and his wife. After all, he does such good work, why hold him accountable? He is after all, such a great man, he cannot possibly be expected to account for how he uses charitable funds? Be serious!!!

Hey, half a million only seems like a lot if you don;t take into account all the places the article names Singer traveling to. Any executive who travels extensively for business can rack up that amount in far less that a year. the writer claims that all of those travel expenses she quotes are pulled from the AG report. I imagine if the tough-as-nails Spitzer found all to be in order regarding the travels, this isn't about entitlement but a legit business expense.

Singer Freinds? Did you read the Spitzer report ? Did you check over his expenses ? 1. When I travel for bussines it costs mean arm and a leg anI travel economy stay at Comfort inns rent mid- economy class cars and eat at moderatly priced resteraunts and I am just meeting with customers. My personal travel and associate saleman expenditures are over $200,000.00 per year and I don't travel half as much as Singer does I see his name in articles meeting with heads of states and religions every week. 2. Regarding his wife when Singer is invited to meet with heads of states and thier first ladies, I find it totaly appropriate taht he should have his wife accompany him and travel in style. 3. If Singer is pulling in Millions for Holocaust reperations and his formula is working , why is he not entitled to travel in comfort ...is he the Jewish peoples slave?
36. expenses? feh.
ilan ,   new york   (12.12.06)
Its funny how the article makes it sound nefarious. But do the math. Ronen asks how you can spend half a million dollars on travel in a year, and why that's ok. Well, lets say he flies over the course of a year to israel and europe 75 times - a conservative estimate. Assuming he flies business class (which is what the spitzer report shows - the first class thing was merely unsubstantiated bullshit in the headline that didnt appear a single time in teh article) and that a average standard business class fare to europe or israel is 2500 (a reasonable - conservative estimate - do the math - the result is 190k - pretty damn close to the number quoted by the article (260k) as the "crazy" amount he's spending on flights. Even funnier is this line - "For example, for two tickets to Germany, he paid (at the expense of the WJC, of course) USD 24,000. On the same day in September 2003, he paid an additional USD 1,000 for another flight. "" If that isnt proof of how absurd this is, I dont know what is. Yes, youve caught him, he flew to germany for an hour vacation. Sounds an awful lot like he flew in for a meeting and then caught a flight to another country for another meeting. I'd love to see bigshots like ronen do shit like that flying coach for 10 hours and then another 3. This article is a malignant piece, intended to make normal numbers look as bad as possible. It was ghost written by isi leibler, and if you beleive the post above (which I cant confirm but find utterly plausible) it WAS written by isi leibler's publicist. I think yediot should be ashamed of itself and its editors fired for such a glaring conflict of interest the produced such a one sided hatchet job. I think you critics should takea long hard look at the facts in a non-prejudicial light before you cry and moan about how bad a man this clear hero is.

i dont know if anyone is entitled to anything. what i do find strang is that the article dosnt show anyone actuall using shoa funds for anything.
39. Misleading Article
Misled ,   NY, USA   (12.12.06)
In light of these posts, this whole article is completely misleading. Singer didn't use any Shoa funds for his travel or anything--the article said that clearly, and if his wife does in fact work for the World Jewish Congress then of course she's allowed to travel on the Congress tab. Also, if Singer flies so much I would expect he probably gets upgrades left and right. So then what the hell is this all about?
40. It's about a sad old man
david ,   Brooklyn, NY   (12.12.06)
What this is about? It's about a lonely old man with a little bit of his kids' inheritance left to spend and a lot of time on his hands. Does anybody have any idea how much this article cost Liebler?
41. Singer friends
ronen ,   NY   (12.12.06)
Who are all these people so passionately defending Singer? You seem to be taking this a bit too personally. What is the nature of your relationship with this man? And why is it that you only focus on Singer's expenses. The article not only related to expenses, questionable - as they may be, but to "financial irregularities amounting to millions of dollars". (I am sure all the survivors and donors take great comfort to learn that Singer's exorbitant level of expenses are standard practice.) But what about Singer taking $ 1.2 million from the WJC which prompted the investigation. Or taking out $ 671,000 in cash. Not to mention the withdrawals from Geneva which are not documented. Many people would be happy to work "on a voluntary basis" like Singer and enjoy such perks. And who said Sptizer cleared Singer? It would appear that this is far from the case. Aparrently, Singer was "forced to step down because of the financial irregularities". But, "despite the finding that he violated his fiduciary obligations" he is still running the WJC and president of the Claims Conference. WHY? That is the question which demands a response.
43. Who is Leibler?
Sharon ,   Ramat Gan   (12.12.06)
Can someone please tell me who ist this Leibler guy? What does he have to do with this article and why did he hire someone to have this written?
44. Leibler
Tal ,   New York   (12.12.06)
For the record, Leibler is the guy who tried to squeeze Bronfman and Singer out of the Jewish Congress and failed so they threw him out. With nothing left to do with his time Leibler managed to kick off a charity investigation in NY state into the Congress. The results of the investigation cleared them of serious wrongdoing but scolded them for mismanagement. Leibler has been trying to punish them ever since he lost for the second time.
45. Claims Conference
Shelley Rubin ,   Los Angeles USA   (03.11.08)
A JDL member, the daughter of a wealthy factory owner in Berlin, escaped to England in 1939. She fought in the underground while on foot through Europe. Her parents, grandmother and little sister were murdered. The Claims Conference denied her claim because she made it out of Europe alive. They received money for the business and home of her parents, but they did not repay our member. There are many others who have been denied what is theirs. Shame on Singer, who lives the good life, and the Claims Conference for keeping the money that doesn't belong to them.
