Ramzi Sfeir ,   Bethlehem,Palestine   (12.16.06)
Honorable Mr. President! YOU HAVE MY FULL SUPPORT! I am watching your Speech live on Al Jazeera, and i have to say that YOU ARE SAYING OUT LOUD what everyone is Thinking secretly! I am proud i voted for you! And i can tell you that you will always get my support!
6. @5 Ramzi Sfeir
Suzanne   (12.16.06)
What exactly do you mean "thinking secretly"? People changed their minds after Hamas got into power? I hope so. Abbas is making sense here.
7. The Most You Can Say About Speech
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (12.16.06)
Mr Abbas wears very nice suits. He evidently has a very good tailor. I watched the speech on al-Jazeera & I think Mr Abbas gets paid by the word. Blah, blah, blah, I thought he would never finish. Just a re-hash of the same old crap. It's all meaningless, by tomorrow they'll be back in the streets shooting at each other. If our gov't had any balls, they would get rid of both Fatah & Hamas & put an end to this tragi-comedy - Oslo created this mess & only a reverse-Oslo can enable some kind of progress.
8. just imagine what they would do with their own country
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (12.16.06)
in palestine, if someone doesn't come to a complete stop at a stop sign - they will be shot. if you do not have exact change for something you want to buy - you'll be shot. if a child forgets to do his homework - you get the picture. palestine will be a talibanized baghdad because they can't perform the simplest function by themselves. life is full of problems and obstacles and if they can't respond better than this to difficulties, they should be left to their own desserts. yes, they deserve a state.
9. @Ramzi Sfeir, one more thing
Suzanne   (12.16.06)
Can't Fatah be dismantled eventually? An ordinary police for the Palestinian Authority- such as Costa Rica has - should do the job for now.
10. The only solution
(12.16.06)
These people don't deserve a state at all. The only solution is to give Gaza to Egypt and the West Bank to Jordan. If you also notice Gazans and West Bankers don't like each other so this solution is doable.
11. what then...
Palestinian   (12.16.06)
the fact of the matter is Abbas had a bash at this for a few years and not got anywhere ...on the contrary the average palestinian got less than before...also, Fatah have developed a reputation for being a party of thugs and thieves so why on earth would any sane person want to see them back in control!!...Mr Abbarse or abbasse which ever it is you are barking up the wrong trees man and I guarantee you that the average palestinian does not have any faith in you or your crones ... and just one advise you will do yourself a favor if you dont show this hate figure of abedrubbo next to you !
12. @10
Suzanne   (12.16.06)
Don't think Egypt and Jordan will be willing. Perhaps two independent states: Gaza + Westbank? If it is really true that they (Gazan and Westbankers) cannot really stand each other.
13. Abbas declares
jeremy ,   Upper Galilee   (12.16.06)
Abbas declares, what can he declare nothing. He is a powerless figure head. No one listens to him. Hamas and Fatah, are all ready fighting a civil war. Oh well, better they kill each other and leave us Israelis alone
14. WHAT A A JOKE
ANA MARIA ,   LATIN AMERICA   (12.16.06)
"It is wholly unrelated to the Palestinian people or humanity in general…to surround children with three cars and gun them down." They just surrond them will explosives and send them to kill jews!
15. Election?
Brod ,   USA   (12.16.06)
New election proposal by Abbas is naive. The result will be the same. The Islamist-Jihadist Hamas will win. Why? Because the people have been brainwashed in Islamist-Jihadism for generations. The fanatics which form the majority of the people will win. In an Arab Islamist-Jihadist society, elections do not work out the way a Western mind would like it to turn out to be. The best solution is by meritocracy form of Government like China. Get the best minds from among the people to the form the government. This is the only way that can produce a strong and viable government in such a society. This will get rid of the fanatics, savages, idiots and the crackpots.
16. now ,,, palastinians ... raise your hands

18. No love for the poor
Steve ,   USA   (12.18.06)
B"H Now that the Jews are not the ones trying to save their skins, all of a sudden the UN love for the "poor" has dropped. I have heard of no proclimations of the human rights of the "poor", just recently. That goes to show you that there never was any love for the "poor". It was just hate against the Jews that was cast as love for the enemies of Zionism. So now we have a lot of Jewish people preparing for Moshiach. Where would all these efforts go if Moshiach actually came instead of being just around the corner? Would he get to stay in any of these palaces prepared for him? Would the Jewish people recognize him? What would the Jewish people do if Moshiach is a Monarch instead of a democratic representative? This is getting very confusing. On one hand there is Zionism with today's "best active practice" in place on Israeli territory. On the other hand, Jews pray daily for a different solution. We think that the Arab problem is difficult. But the Jewish difficulty does not look so easy either. How is Zionism going to prepare itself for the transition that Jews have been praying for over mellenia? THAT is difficult. Perhaps that is the real fear of a complete solution. Jews will need to face the Jewish difficulties without excuse instead of just praying for a better tomorrow.
