M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (12.17.06)
Heck, no, they're not bluffing. They really and honestly want back that Golan
2. When you are talking with your enemy
Richard ,   New York, USA   (12.17.06)
without killing each other, it paves the way for more cooperation, and eventually peace.
3. What should be examined ....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (12.17.06)
Is Amir Peretz's head. And while they're at it, examine his qualifications to be Minister of Defense. This guy is a total loser.
4. UNREALISTIC
ROBERT MORLEY ,   FARMINGTON,WV   (12.17.06)
ITS JUST A WAY FROM THEM TO GET THE WORLD TO PUT PRESSURE ON ISRAEL TO COME TO THE TABLE FOR MORE UNREALISTIC TALKS AND FOR ISRAEL TO GIVE UP MORE LAND FOR NO MORE SECURITY, THEN THEY HAVE NOW, THIS IS GETTING TO BE VERY OLD, TRICK
5. 1# Mr.Hartley, why don't we give him your home?
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (12.17.06)
Why should my wife and 6 month old baby need to move from the Golan? The Golan belongs to Israel and was unfairly given to the state of Syria in 1946 by France and England. In 1922 the Golan was promised by the League of Nations to be part of the furure Jewish homeland. Jews have lived in the Golan for thousands of years and in 1967 we won it back in a hard fought battle. In 1973 we defended the Golan once again from the Syrians in a great tank battle. We even captured 25 more kilometers which we later gave back to Syria. The Golan is Israel's forever!
6. please please please Peretz RESIGN ON PRINCIPLE :)
aaron ,   ra'anana   (12.17.06)
go drive a taxi somewhere
7. Whats wrong with talking?
Suzanne   (12.17.06)
8. Of course they want peace...
Elle   (12.17.06)
That's why they fund Hezbollah, ally with Iran and house the Hamas leadership. If those aren't peaceful overtures then I don't know what is. I'm beginning to think that Syria has smarter leaders than Israel...

Moran   (12.17.06)
You are so right girl. It doesn`t take much to be smarter than the leaders of Israel.... But donĀ“t kid yourself...Hezbollah and the likes are not peaceful. Ultimately Israel HAS to talk, without demanding a hell of a lot of unrealistic conditions....And Israel should NOT give up more land now...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10. to #2 , #5
Tarek ,   Damascus, Syria   (12.17.06)
Thanks Richard for your rational comment. i can say that most comments written by people outside Israel (usually the US) are somehow more rational, realistic and always call for negotiations. to #5 - "We even captured 25 more kilometers which we later gave back to Syria" YEAH RIGHT!! is that what they made you believe? this reminds me of Bush and Olmart last summer when they said "Israel won the war on Hizbullah" :S :S "In 1922 the Golan was promised by the League of Nations to be part of the furure Jewish homeland" then why didnt they give it to you with Palastine back then? and why does the United Nations and the entire world "except for the US of course" say its an occupied Syrian territory? "Jews have lived in the Golan for thousands of years and in 1967 we won it back in a hard fought battle" So?! jews, just like Muslims and Christians existed and still exist through out the entire middle east, some jews lived in Damascus, we even have a road in Damascus called "the jews ally" does that make Damascus Israeli?
11. # 10,, to my neighbour Tarek from Syria
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (12.17.06)
1) Were you even alive in 1967 and 1973? If so then you should know the truth that Israel defeated Syria in both those wars. If this is not true then how is it possible that I , an Israeli Jew live on the Golan only 30 kilometers from Damascas? Unless you want to believe your government propoganda its time to open your eyes. 2) check the history books, the future Jewish homeland was promised the Golan in 1922. Who cares what the corrupt United Nations says. 3) Our Jewish ancestors not only lived here they also had a country here. Please read the bible to learn this fact. Is it not time that our two countries lived in peace just like I do with my Druze friends in the next village? Yet you must realize that any furure peace cannot be based on Israel giving away the Golan! It was already stolen from us once.
12. Syrian hunta near the end
Itzik ,   Haifa   (12.17.06)
Assad will be killed soon. There is no point to talk to him. Soon Syria will get new hunta. Golan is Jewish, was always Jewish. The Jewish Land with Jewish name.
13. If Syria wanted peace it already would have happened
David ,   Boston, USA   (12.17.06)
This is pathetic. Israel won, Syria lost and will lose more when the populous overthrows the Alawites or Iran controls Syria utterly. Syria's best best is to make peace with Israel and start trading with Israel. Syria can no longer blindly steal from Lebanon and has no economy to speak of and a restive majority. They need to make peace with Israel or they will just become an Iranian satellite. What is their preference? Oh, and the Golan Heights are part of Israel and will remain that way, but Syrians would be able to use the Israel beaches on the Kinneret and enjoy good Israeli wines from the Golan. Syria should make peace for its own future. They have alot to lose if they dont and a lot to gain if they do. Israel has little to gain from making peace with Syria, but as Jews we need to strive for Tikkun Olam.
14. #11 Judah ..
Lynne   (12.17.06)
hmm.. ok.. "who cares what the corrupt UN says"!! very well then.. in the UN Israel is recognised as a state.. so under your logic I can easily say that Israel's neighbours have every right not to recognise Israel!! who cares about the UN!! I could also say that resolutions 1701 and 1559 should not be taken into consideration at all.. and let's keep the wars going!! is that the how you see this conflict should be resolved??? what peace do you refer to under such a mentality?? the fact that your Jewish ancestors have lived there does not mean that Jews from Europe and America have the right to come and live there!! my dear, your ancestors have either converted .. or moved away or are SYRIAN Jews.. you should go look for them somewhere else!!
15. Does the US talk to Al Qaeda?
sk ,   USA   (12.17.06)
Does anyone remember Bush saying "oh, well, yes, you sent planes into our skyscrapers and the Pentagon, but we seek PEACE, PEACE, PEACE, and so we will talk (what's wrong with talking?) to Al Qaeda? When Mullah Omar said that Bin Laden was "a guest," did Bush say, "OH PLEASE! WE WANT PEEEACE"? Say what you want about Bush's second term, but not only did he not "talk" to Al Qaeda, he didn't even want to involve NATO because he knew that US war aims would be OBSTRUCTED with international involvement.
16. (clarification of 15)
sk ,   USA   (12.18.06)
I meant that the US did not involve NATO in its attack on Afghanistan.
17. 14 # Lynne you know little about Judiasm
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (12.18.06)
I am a Levi , my father is a Levi and my grandfather was a levi ans so and so. Levites helped the Cohens(the high priests ) in the holy temple. My family has not converted away but been Jews for thousands of years. As for the Golan, I suggest that you go visit ancient Kastrin next to modern Kastrin so that you can clearly see for yourself where the Jewish people lived
18. #17 Judah..
Lynne   (12.19.06)
you're right I do know little about Judaism.. ok.. you come from a Jewish family.. but didn't your family leave Israel once upon a time and live somewhere else?? and later on you came back as settlers.. anyway.. whatever your history is.. this is not the question of debate.. right now your Druze neighbours are under siege.. it's very difficult for them to move in and out of Golan.. and Golan is in a state of war.. even if it's not a very raging war it still is war.. you say that you wish to live in peace with them but how?? how could you live in peace if you wish to disregard the UN resolutions??
