Mossad chief: No indication Syria moving toward peace    Ilan Marciano
1. NOW there's a surprise!!!!
Arie ,   Afula   (12.18.06)
2. Peace with Syria
It may well be that there are no indications of Syria moving to peace. Isn't that the point of negotiations for peace? What's important are the positions Syria takes after negotiations have taken place and before any land is ceded. Syria has expressed a desire for peace. Rather than blow away an opportunity, Israel should determine if Syria's offer is legitimate.
Sam ,   Canada   (12.18.06)
3. To Sam
Perhaps you should review all the other "overtures" to peace syria has made. If you do, you will see they haveno interest other than being the neighbourhood super-power. If you need an example of their desires, look at what they have done to "lebanon" and how they are assisting and aiding the terrorists in iraq and afghanistan.
Arie ,   Afula   (12.18.06)
4. syria should complete conquest of lebanon first
fadi ,   lebanon   (12.18.06)
5. To Arie on peace talks
I understand how you and other Israelia feel about Syrian intentions. My point is, how will you and Israelis feel AFTER negotiations have taken place and before land is given to Syria. If you feel the same as now, don't make peace.
Sam ,   Canada   (12.18.06)
6. Syria, the Golan & Reality
WHAT?? But, but, U.S.Senators John Francois Kerry and Bill Dullard Nelson believe that Syria is an ally of the U.S. and Israel and has an important part to play in reaching peace. How can this be? What/Who am I to believe? I'm SO conflicted! (Help. My sarcasm selector is stuck in the Maximum detent. Your generous donations will help remedy the situation)
Gideon Reader ,   Boca Raton(USA)   (12.18.06)
7. The Americans
I find it hard to believe that Americans would be worse off if Israel made peace with Syria. In any case, Israel can coordinate with the Americans before they implement any agreement reached with the Syrians.
Sam ,   Canada   (12.18.06)
8. Syria not moving toward Peace
.....and Israel needs Mossad to tell you that !!??
Kemp ,   Nahariya Israel   (12.18.06)
9. syria not moving towards peace...
and angel Israelis are doing everything in their powers to reach a peace?????? stop this mockery!
(12.18.06)
10. Too little, too late.
Where was Meir Dagan while Hizbullah were camping out in our back yard, building bunkers and arming themselves with missiles? It's all very well for him to bark now about Tehran and Lebanon. The Mossad used to reign supreme, Inspector Gadget could to better than them now. How sad.
Talula ,   Israel   (12.18.06)
11. I think Syria is moving towards nothing.....
...Those lazy bastards just want to sit around all day, smoke hookah, and talk nostalgically about the time Mohammed did some stupid shit with a cat.
Mush DeLeon ,   Brooklyn, New York   (12.18.06)
12. To Sam#5
I understand your suggeston to reespond AFTER negotiations, but again I suggest you look at history. We ALREADY had 'negotiations' with the syrians. They kept throwing in preconditions and demands, including a return of the Golan as a prerequisite. There can be no negotiations or even an attempt to develop any trustwhile the syrians allow their land to be used as an open training ground for butchers. They speak of negotiating while at the same time they rearm the terrorist hezbullah to attack us and take control of what's left of lebanon they speak words while at the same time they fuel the anarchy and butchery in iraq and afghanistan. "Negotiating" is wonderful with someone who is sincere, not with someone dedicated to yor death.
Arie ,   Afula   (12.18.06)
13. NO DEAL
With terrorist a holes.
yimmy ,   Israel   (12.18.06)
14. What are you afraid Arie?
If you don't negotiate, all those things you mentioned - terrorist camps, arming Hezbollah etc will stay and get worse. If you have successful negotiations the threats to Israel will recede. That's for Israel to judge. To say I refuse to try sounds to me stubborn and fearful particularly when you havn't given Syria anything.
Sam ,   Canada   (12.18.06)
15. Talks with syria
No trust, no deal with bloody dictator.
Emma ,   France   (12.18.06)

giving up the golan heights as a precondition to israeli/syrian peace talks is a huge mistake. no, syria doesn't want the golan for peaceful purposes. they want it precisely for strengthening hizbullah and other military fanatic sectsa and installing them on the golan in preparation for war with israel. never believe an arab, especially a syrian arab. they never mean what they say and do not have the concept of honoring their promises and words. search history and see it for yourself. if we give up the golan we are comitting suicide. the syrians will create a huge and strong military base there and when they are strong enough and ready enough, you bet there will be an attack on israel. excuse us israelis for being a little skeptical of the chinless dictator. he's not a promising guy.

war will come anyway, golan or not golan. so why give it back? so they can attack us from this strategic point too? you are a fool to believe we'll ever comott this kind of suicide. i would rather hold on to the golan and risk a war than believe a murderous dictator who knows nothing about honoring his word or promises. remember, israelis are not as stupid as arabs. centuries have proven this.
v. n.y. ,   usa   (12.19.06)

no, israelis are not angels, but very very smart survivors. no, israelis are doing everything in their power to hold on to the golan, a strategic location which was repeatedly used to bomb the hell out of us for years. we also know assad only wants to strengthen his military and position hizbullah there with some iranian soldiers to give us what they think may be the final blow. don't be naive. the golan heights is worth nothing to assad except pride and a tool to amass his army there against us. this is the only reason he wants his version of peace and the golan back. the minute he gets it, god forbid, he'll use it to start a war aided by iran and hizbullah, forgetting his "peaceful intentions and promises" to the israelis and americans. you are a fool to believe otherwise.
