2. Let Me See if I Understand
Harold ,   USA   (12.19.06)
Give us a state and we will leave you be in peace for 20 years but after 20 years, we can start up again? Why not force Israels hand by saying give us a state within the 67 borders and we will recognize your right to exist and we can all live in peace?
3. To #1 - I agree
D   (12.19.06)
4. try to last that long
YedLita ,   USA   (12.19.06)
First keep your trigger-finger under control for 2 days against your FATAH brothers then talk about 20 years. What a joke-and-a-half.
5. Will he recognize Israel and past agreements ?
redmike ,   tel aviv & london   (12.19.06)
'Hudna might even last 20 years'. This would of course depend upon whether or not Hamas felt strong enough to attack Israel before that time. Do these guys thing all non-muslims are dumb !
6. 20 year truce, who is this stupid?
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (12.19.06)
20 years while Israel does nothing and Hamas continues to arm. Then whenever they feel ready to attack at any time, the "truce" is off.
7. Expiration date?
J K ,   NYC, USA   (12.19.06)
Only the followers of a convoluted system of 'hudna' could come up with an offer like this. Give us 100% of everything we want and we will leave you alone for 20 years. Its dont on a smaller scale in this world. It's called extortion which is usually punishible with jail time. Either the elected representative govt of the Fakestinians is really to negotiate and reach a lasting peace. or they are not. It's that simple. None of this BS, no 1/2 measures, no fine print. An offer like this from Hamas indicates they are not serious. Please do try again and refer to UNSCR 242 for how its going to be done. Later freaks.
8. 20 years thats a long time did he discuss
tea man ,   marjayoun leb   (12.19.06)

9. wow
Jesse ,   USA   (12.19.06)
Who in their right minds would agree to this? I'll give you a state so that you can build up your power for 20 years of peace and then invade my country. Okay, sounds great! This is utterly absurd.
10. If you don't want me to kill you now...
Ezra ,   Canada   (12.19.06)
... give me half of what I want and I will kill youy in twenty years to take the other half. At least we cannot say this guy is not honest ! Let us wait a bit and all the pissniks will ask Israel to accept it...
11. Why Israel should accept his offer.
Khalid   (12.19.06)
First of all, let me say I understand that when Haniya says "hudna for 20 years" in exchange for Palestine on '67 borders, it is met with skepticism, naturally. Obviously many Israelis will believe this is only 20 years to regroup, re-arm, and eventually attack Israel. But, let me assure you of this: Palestinians are sick and tired, literally. If a state is established in the Gaza Strip, West Bank & East Jerusalem, and there was peace for only 5 years (let alone 20) and the Palestinians started getting their salaries, children went to school and returned safely, people were not worried about where to get their next meal, then TRUST ME all of us would be against ANY violation by Hamas. Think about it, do you think the Palestinians who are starving now, and who would live happily for 10 years, would be OK with going back to starving and fighting? FURTHER, you can be assured that Hamas would have the support of nobody in Palestine for their attack on Israel, and it would not have the support of ANY Arab nation, and surely it would not have the support of any Western nation. 15 years of truce can mean re-arming, for sure, but it can also mean living in peace for 15 years on both sides, maybe this doesn't mean much to you Israelis because you experience a qassam or two, but for Palestinians who die each day it means a lot, and we understand this. 15 years can mean serious negotiations without any deaths and trust me, in 15 years of talking that is un-interrupted by violence will surely lead to something! Disagree? We haven't tried 15 years of peace yet, let's try!
12. "...may even last 20 years."
malcolm   (12.19.06)
Or 20 minutes. Who knows...Just give us the land and we'll see!
13. Sorry Haniyeh, Starkist wants tuna that tastes good
JPS ,   Israel   (12.19.06)
In other words, Hamas has nothing to offer Israel, and apparently nothing to offer the Palestinian people. That's probably why they don't want elections - they'd lose. Can Fatah get its act together and offer something better? Stay tuned... same bat time, same bagt channel... Biff! Bamm! Kawoomphf!
14. Amazing
andrew ,   San Francisco, USA   (12.19.06)
Interesting negotiating tactic. No matter what Israel does, Palestinians will return in 10~20 years to kill Israelis. Whether it's an attempt to kill today or in 20 years, where is the incentive for Israel?
15. Cannot keep a hunda with each other
Steve ,   USA   (12.19.06)
B"H Abbas and Hamas cannot keep a hunda for more than a day with each other, and Israel is expected to give these territories to the war mongers to keep the peace in? The practice is quite a bit different than the preaching; even yesterday, these had a peace plan with each other and today there is no peace. How can they look 20 years into the future if they cannot predict accurately even one day of peace among themselves? The Jews practice peace, and these practice war. Choose peace. Choose a Jewish presence in the entire territory.
16. The great State of what? Eternal Confusion?
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (12.19.06)
They could have had a State in '48. They didn't have any interest in a State back then, and from the looks of it, nothing much has changed in 58 years. It sounds to me as if they want Israel to be responsible for the state of their State, meaning, if it doesn't work out which, of course, it won't, it's, once again and as usual, the fault of the Jews and all bets are off. This should happen just about when somebody decides they have stolen enough money or when the world expects them to stand on their own two feet and, if need be, fake some semblance of normalcy. Maybe if they invested their efforts into 1) making a State for themselves instead of into 2) destroying somebody else's, they'd get a lot further. But then again, as long as there is more money in #2 for which you don't have to work, why bother with #1? Blowing up things and people now and then and being a hero for doing it, beats hell out of drudging to some job from 9 to 5, five days a week and, heaven forbid, being responsible for something.
17. 20 sheks israel takes this seriously
yakir   (12.19.06)
MORONS
18. emm!
wiseman   (12.19.06)
As strange as it may sound israel should really consider this seriously. at least these guys mean what they say and israel knows where it stands ... the alternative is having to deal with the bunch of thieves and thugs of Abmozen&gang who are in it for the money and cannot be trusted to hold a long term solution.
19. From Prof. Politician to Prof. Comedian....lol
David   (12.19.06)
20. to Khalid #11
David ,   Jerusalem   (12.19.06)
Perhaps you are correct. But why not see it from the other side, a more pragmatic approach. Stop the terror, stop the killing, stop the violence for say 2 years. Demand a State then in the territory the PA now controls, bulid a nation give Peace and prosperity to the Palestinian people and to its neighbors. Then come back to the negotiating table and say now we want the rest of pre 1967 Palestine. We have shown we can live in Peace with you, We all can prosper. I wonder if that wouldn't work better. But of course these are both pipe dreams.
21. to #11 Khalid
Richard S. ,   Miami, USA   (12.19.06)
Khalid, I have a better idea: Let Hamas start a Hudna now. Make sure that Fatah, Islamic Jihad an Al Aqsa Brigade does not attack or even stone Israelis anywhere. Then Israel will not be afraid of allowing more Palestinians to work in Israel and would dismantle all the checkpoints. Then as the Palestinian lives improve it would achieve they would want to maintain the status quo and would not want more violence which leads to economic depression. So basically we can achieve everything you are saying without Israel having to give a state to the Palestinians. Of course the reality is more complex than yours and mine interpretations.
22. #11 ANSWER!
v. n.y. ,   usa   (12.19.06)
no, let's not try! one has only to look at gaza to know what happened when we gave them this territory. we were attacked! peace for 20 years? who are these vermin to use extortion on israel? because this is exactly what they are doing. THEY ARE BUYING TIME! to re group and re arm and re organize. do you really believe we are stupid enough to buy this half assed deal? the happenings in gaza after we left and the situation in lebanon after we left is enough to show us and the world that deals made with arabs do not hold. why wait to see what happens after 20 years? don't you think we know what will happen? we are not suicidal, you know. every promise arabs made turned to dust. just look what your leaders say to other world leaders and how different their messages are to the arabs when they get back home. yes, the palestinians are sick and tired and starving daily, you say. then how come they have the strength to march on the streets, to riot, to committ suicide missions, to shout death to israel, etc.... all this takes a great deal of effort. how come they don't turn to their own ellected leaders to demand where is the billions of dollars in aid from israel, europe and the usa that was given to their leaders for AID not guns and bombs. i think that should they have spent less money on guns and violence, each of them would have had food on the table for their families and children. does haniyeh look starving to you? does abbas? does mashaal? do the fat arabic women under their black dress look starving to you? and if they are starving, their finger should point directly at these above leaders for denying them the basics and the dignity and hope for their future. look at your leaders and look at your ideology if you want peace in the region. now look at what the gazans do....kill each other! for political and financial power. being in your government means getting your filthy hands on all this aid dollars and giving NOTHING to your people. palestinians could have had a great infrastructure, economy, schools, universities, farms, education, lifestyle for many years now. it's not that they didn't want it, but they were led by thiose in power who had no intention to give any of these things to them and this is the tgruth of their suffering. they don't see this failure because they have been so indocrinated to hate and blame everyone for their misery. remember, you are dewaling here with an uneducated poor population....very easy to control and sway in any direction, making the best of promises and delivering shit instead.
