JK ,   NYC   (12.19.06)
During Chanuka at least can the Hellenist-Assimilationist just stop talking and go back to the Kibbutz and your pagan version of the Bar Mitzvah and your distorted New Jew philosophy.

9. reply#2
eliyahu ,   baltimore,USA   (12.19.06)
I love Israeli's even arrogant ones like you. For your info, bubba, you may vote but that hardly makes your autocratic country a democracy...and notwithstanding your votes, policy is influenced more from this continent than your own. Don't be so quick to knock American Jews as they've saved your butt more often than you know. Btw, for someone who calls himself a sabra you sure spend an awful lot of time in the anglo press...hmmmm
10. More poop from the Wizard of Poop

11. Did Amoz really get paid for the above inepties?
Moshe   (12.19.06)
12. Amos Oz called Religious Jews Hezbollah in Skullcaps
Sherry Weinstein ,   Israel   (12.19.06)
Amos Oz is an extreme leftwing polemicist with a fierce hatred of Judaism and of the heroic Jews who have returned to Judea and Samaria. Oz had made a speech to a "Peace Now" rally that was later written up for the New York Times. Oz called the movement of the faithful "a messianic sect, obtuse and cruel, which has emerged from a dark corner of Jerusalem." Hope for the messiah is fundamental to Judaism; to reject it is to reject the nation's heritage, which is what Oz and his camp do in surrendering Judea and Samaria to Arab Jew-killers. Not only are Jewish settlers a "small cruel messianic cult," said Oz, "they want to impose on us" [leftwing, secular Jews] a wild and insane blood ritual." His remarks were an unadulterated blood libel, the kind one used to expect from Kremlin propagandists. And Oz went beyond his Protocols of the Elders of Zion idiom. He compared settlers to Arab terrorists ("their Jewishness is of the Hezbollah kind, their Zionism is that of Abu Nidal")
13. Amos Oz

Amos Oz is Neturei Karta without payos and a shtreimel.
14. Have you not learned a thing or two Amos?
chanan ,   usa   (12.19.06)
All the talks with Arabs and land withdrawals have not brought Israel closer to peace, not even the Sinai giveaway. It made sense to ask the Arabs to sit down for talks during the Cold War. Now Israel is in a much stronger position and the Arabs should beg on their knees for peace. If they really want it they need to take meaningful steps to show this like renouncing/denouncing/stopping support for terrorism.

Secular Sabra ,   Israel   (12.19.06)
My family has been here since 1883..... I'm not going anywhere. Do us all a favor and stay in America.
16. And what is the point of meeting?
Steve ,   USA   (12.19.06)
B"H Meetings need preparation. Top leaders conclude deals at meetings and do not make deals there. Outcomes of the meetings are predetermined to keep the prestige of the leadership. It would need coordination between offices beforehand. That is not happening yet. It is a matter of broken protocol. And if you want to talk about peace, what have you learned from the Gaza "giveaway"? That region is now full of violence. Why should the Golan be similarly become anohter violent front instead of the peaceful one that currently exists? You call it land for peace, but I call it land for violence. Asad wants the Golan as a launching pad for another war on Israel or drain its water in the Galilee so its residents cannot live there. Why is it to Israel's advantage to cave in to him on that? Quote: A total of 2,700 Israeli soldiers were killed, and thousands were wounded in the Yom Kippur War, in wake of which Israel accepted the same proposal made by Sadat prior to the war: Land for peace. Have we really not learned anything?
17. Mr. Amos Oz / Syria / Peace
Ricardo Kolbe ,   Cologne; Germ.-Eur.   (12.19.06)
Mr. Oz is very admired here in Germany and his article should be read very carefully; however, insiders believe firstly, that Mr. Olmert MK, (Kadima), Mr. Lieberman MK (Our House Israel) and Mr. Peretz MK (Labour) don't have a peace plan and so far rejected any peace proposals also because of extreme right party philosophies and secondly, Israel is benefitting from billions of US tax payers money every year and therefore not really free in their decisions regarding foreign policies. However when it comes to occupied territories for 39 years now it suits the Kadima/Likud/Our House Israel politicians.
18. The wizard from Oz
Dr Ahmed Pasha ,   Morocco   (12.19.06)
Real peace is made with someone who is ready to accept and respect you, not to abuse the "peace" negotiations as a prelude for renewed aggression. What does Mr Oz think that Syria will do if it ever got the Golan? Cultivating carrots or cabage or perhaps looking with greedy eyes on northern Israel?
19. USA is your ONLY friend on this planet, #2
Cameron ,   USA   (12.19.06)
Oh Sabra who needs to pull his head out- Given the staggering political, financial, and military aid we GIVE you EVERY YEAR, we most certainly DO have a tremedous amount of 'say' in what Israel does in the ME. You may hate that fact, but that is just a hard, cold reality, just like tide coming in or the sun rising in the morning. If you ever cause us to turn our face away from you, you are truly finished. The headcase Arab world's fondest desire is to devour you like hummus on pita bread. Be extremely grateful for America's efforts. Without it, both your nation and your life are essentially kaput. Reality Check, you f**l Sabra
20. Reply # 12
Secular Sabra ,   Israel   (12.19.06)
Here is the actual quote > Amos Oz, Israel’s most celebrated writer, refers to his country’s extremists as “Hezbollah in a skullcap.” He says that Rabin’s death made him realize that “the real battle in the Middle East is no longer between Arabs and Jews but between fanatics of both faiths and the rest of the people in the Middle East who want to find some reasonable compromise.” I completely agree with him.... most of us do .
21. Give peace a chance!
patrick ,   Quebec city (Canada)   (12.19.06)
I am not a leftwing polimicist as one said in a previous response in this talkback, and I a surely one of the most fearless defensor of Israel BUT can you tell me (i am asking all the warmongers here!) what the hell do you not see the possibility to avoid possible loss of lives in a near war against Syria????? Be sure that the total of the losses among all the brave israeli soldiers would surely be more than 2 700!!!
22. (18) Very well said!
Moshe ,   Netanya   (12.19.06)
23. "Only the dead have seen the end of war" - Plato
Daniel ,   Formerly Israel   (12.19.06)
Oz and the Israeli left have failed to learn anything from Plato and fro the world's history, and from their own history. As Plato correctly points out, the only way to end war is to die, and if we look around the world every country (except those hiding behind the U.S. or Russia) has to fight diplomatic or military wars constantly to maintain its existence and has had to do so ever since its founding, and every tie soem country is faced with war and decides to back down it gets hit with an even worse war. There were two reasons for the 1973 war an its severity. It occured because Israel existed and could only have been utterly prevented by dismantling Israe. It brought Israel within an inch of destruction because instead of following up the '67 war by annexing the territories, securing our borders, preparing for the next war, and then demanding peace-for-peace negotiations with the Arabs, we let down our guard and decidided we don't want to fight any more. If Israel wants to see the end of war it must cease to exist (as our enemies have continually and correctly pointe out to us) and if Israel wants to continue to exist it must continue to fight for its existance. Let me end with another quote, oen whose author I do not know but whose applicability to the world in its current state is unquestionable: "He alone is worthy of life and liberty who goes to battle for them every single day."
24. Secular Sabra is afraid of American Jews
Mike Kerner ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (12.19.06)
He knows full well that American, Anglo and Western Jews have a true understanding of what Democracy is. He, and those like him, are terrified that once those Jews move here they will tilt the balance of power away from the small minority of far left secular progressives who are currently running the country.
25. If Assad gets the Golan #21, the death toll will higher
chanan ,   usa   (12.19.06)
26. Amos
a jew ,   NY   (12.19.06)
is too stupid to realize that Assad is only doing this to ward off US/Israeli bombing in the coming months.
27. Amos, any scenario leads to war
chanan ,   usa   (12.19.06)
Now for Israel it will be a war from a superior position of strength from the Golan Heights and this is why it may not happen. Later based on Amos wishes it will be a war from an inferior position for Israel without the Golan Heights and this is why it will happen.
28. REJECTING TORAH LEADS TO WAR
GET IT RIGHT ,   ..............DACON9   (12.20.06)
29. Taqqya!!!
enzo ,   london,uk   (12.20.06)
Arabs are very keen to talk "peace" and " ceasefire" when they have their back against the wall!!! Once again, it's called "Taqqya", the art of deceiving the enemy in moments of danger!
30. Assad's is begging because of US
Stan ,   Brooklyn, USA   (12.20.06)
Oz fails to grasp that Syria begs for talks to get out of pressure applied by USA and West Europe. Few years back he did not give a damn about peace. He said to the Pope that Israelis killed Jesus. So please don't interupt the pressure. Assad is not a partner for peace.
