Asylum Aleikum ,   Guantanamo Bay, Cuba   (12.21.06)
Does he really believe that anyone takes him seriously?
3. rockets
jeremy ,   upper galilee   (12.21.06)
Oh sure now, Peretz wants to respond to the rockets, after going to a Labour Party meeting and seeing that no one wants to be his friend anymore. He's scared that he will lose his cushy job. As for our P.M, well, there is nothing to say about him.
4. only thing olmert is good at

6. Where is the UN now????????
Maurice ,   Montreal   (12.21.06)
Why is the UN always ready to condemn Israel and not the terrorists. This situation clearly illustrates the goodwill Israel is showing by not retaliating, to give peace a chance. But the terrorists want only war and bloodshed. What is Israel waiting for to submit a request to he UN for the Security Council to strongly condemn these barbarous attacks.
7. Who is Olmert kidding?
Cynic ,   USA   (12.21.06)
Abbas the terrorist is involved in a civil war over which terrorist group should be in control of firing the rockets

Who benefits from Israel responding to the Qassams? Israel? I think not. It really is a difficult situation, Hamas will benefit and so will Iran as it solidifies it's relationship with Hamas. The puppet master is probably yet again pulling the strings. Who just got back from Iran and other Arab states to total chaos in Gaza? Haniyeh, thats who. He has come back to stop the internal friction and justify their radical ways. How better than to provoke Israel with more Qassams? When Israel responds, normal oblivious palestinians will of course unite against Israel yet again and Hamas will have its justification, while aMADinijad enjoys the support from Hamas. Its really quite easy to pull the strings and hold conferences when the weak UN does nothing and just sits by and watches while Hitler is reborn. Question is, what would you do if you were PM? I hear a lot of Rhetoric on these talk backs, and there is a lot of talk of more violence, problem is violence will only beget more violence. In my oppinion the only way to stop all the bloodshed and get the UN to act on something is for Israel to do something crazy like give the palestinians more land than they deserve, return the Golan, and sit down and ask for talks to Iran, Syria and Lebannon. If the talks dont materialize after all is given and nothing is given back in return, then Israel will have the support from the US, UN to go in and bomb the shit out of them. Otherwise, they will just say it is disproportinate annihilation!

You speak very wise words, and are so in the correct vision of this conflict. Isreal should never respond to qassams. Only to an accual military build up on their border. Iran would totally benifit, as their are playing the soft stratigy. If Isreal attacks the PA's, they will revert back to a hard stratigy, which is always defeted by a soft stratigy. Isreal needs to prove they are a more wise and better leader then Iran. Otherwise, Isreal will have to surcume to Iran's influance in the Middle East. To do this, Isreal has to keep playing a soft stratigy. To even go so far, as to be the only country to give PA's charity. Don't ship them money, ship them food, cloths, school books, etc... Show them the way, by example, how a civilized democracy works. Lead by example, please do so. Peace, not just for the Middle East, depends on this.
14. restraint limits
chaim ,   miami beach fl   (12.21.06)
The refusal of the Olamrt Government to take the appropriate action to impress upon the terrorists to cease and desist from terrorizing Israel communities bordering their enclave by using one excuse or another, reminds me of a famous observation expressed by well known humanist (his name at the moment escapes me) when he stated “the measure of a government morality is by their care and protecting the welfare of their children. To show any restraint against a group of terrorists who deliberately target the schools and playgrounds of the children which are the future of Israel by utilizing the excuse of their failure to inflict actual physical harm upon them and ignoring the severe long term physiological trauma suffered by them, just shows a government that is totally immoral and corrupt to their core.

Sitting in France, running down the Israeli PM doesnt help..if you want to say something come to Israel join our people and make aliyah.. Olmerts wife and children are free to think and say what they want, it does not mean that he is like that. YOU should come to Israel instaed of making negative comments if you cared!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know you speak with good intention and in theory it sounds good if Israel was the size of Egypt. But the truth is Israel is smaller then New Jersey how much can you give up. How can you give up such strong strategic poistions such as the Golan. So what heppens Israel gives this land to terrorists and expects them not to use it to wipe Israel out? How many times can we give up land with hollow promises? In my opinon we should pinpoint attacks at rocket launchers and any terrorists attempting to do harm to Israeli residnets. However at the same time my heart tells me that the only way that there could ever be peace is if there is no more threat and that threat can only be eliminated if the terrorists or eliminated (killed). i think that Israel needs to think about forcing Olmert to resign and get a leader who will take hard stands and follow though on promises made. But at the same time wont endanger IDF soldiers by sending them anyware unprpared for wat they will face.

#13, you have not spoken wisely on this matter of qassams. If rockets were raining down on you and your family, I greatly suspect that non-violence and 'soft strategy' would not be very high on your list of proper responses. Reward & aid people obsessed with trying to off other's families? Liberalism has it's limitations when applied to out-of-control pathology. Peace depends on behaving kindly and generously with those who behave in a civilized manner and applying a heavy hand with those actively trying to cut throats. #13, get out of the rain and clear your head with some of that good Seattle coffee.
20. Abbas is weak, IDF has to defend and protect country
Brod ,   USA   (12.21.06)
There is nothing Abbas can do to stop the rocket attacks on Israel. He is weak politically and militarily. Or, he is in collusion with the savages in Gaza in their attacks on Israel. Whatever it is, with the unrelenting rocket attacks on Israel by the Islamist-Jihadist terrorists, there is no such thing as a truce. Israel should not be fooled in thinking that there is a truce. When one side starts attacking the other side, the truce evaporates into thin air. The latest rocket bomb attack almost hit a school in Sderot. The next one may well hit its mark. The IDF must protect and defend the country from external threats and attacks by going after the attackers. Anyone who tries to stop or sabotage the IDF in doing their work may well be colluding with the enemy.
