Harold ,   USA   (12.26.06)
NOT!
2. Since When Does Bush Get To Decide?
emanon ,   USA   (12.26.06)
This is not a US problem. Despite Bush the Seconds actions, the US had no overseas empire. The issue of peace must be decided on by the parties involved, not some third third rate, ahh excuse me, some third party. Now if all the Arab terrorists will lay down their arms, the peace process can begin.
3. Some Christians are friends to Israel....
Monk ,   USA   (12.26.06)
and other self-professed Christians are Israel's enemies. President George W. Bush falls into the second camp.
4. Palestinians don't want their own state
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (12.26.06)
They have been offered a state many times over the past decade. They have refused every time, because they don't want their own state, they want the Israeli state.
5. President Bush: the neo-con Jews' best friend
Steve ,   USA   (12.26.06)
Neo-conservative Jews supported Bush all the way because he was willing to invade Iraq. Neo-conservative Jews like Paul Wolfowitz and Richard Pearle were so elated they were even willing to give Bush a pass on his corrupt and immoral -- even anti-Semitic? --- policy toward Israel. I don't remember hearing or reading Jewish neo-conservatives like Mr. William Kristol complain as Bush, Ariel Sharon and the Republican party plotted to ethnically cleanse the Jewish state of Jews in order to establish a Palestinian-Muslim terrorist state. Neo-cons were silent as thousands of Jews were forcibly expelled from Gaza and northern Samaria. Neo-cons have been silent and they are still silent even though this runs completely counter to their so-called "war on terrorism." In the annals of Jewish history, Jewish neo-conservatives will be a blot on the history of the Jews.
6. Don't blame me, I never voted for the guy!
Dorothy TFriend ,   Tel Aviv   (12.26.06)
7. A policy of desperation, not principle
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (12.26.06)
In June of 2002, Bush called on the Palestinians "to elect ... leaders not compromised by terror... to build a practicing democracy, based on tolerance and liberty." Only if they did so would America "actively support their efforts." Well, that requirement obviously hasn't been met. In 2003, the Road Map specified that a Palestinian state with interim borders would only appear during the *second* stage. The first stage required the dismantling of all militant groups and the abandonment of terror. Well, that requirement has not been met either. Nonetheless, in order to meet the Bush "schedule" to leave a legacy beyond Iraq, a people that has done nothing to show they are ready for statehood, done nothing to show they are ready for peace with its neighbor, is to be handled a state on a platter. Irrespective of the consequences. Is this what passes for great power "leadership" today?
8. Insufficient to remove Hamas from Government
Steve ,   USA   (12.26.06)
B"H If Hammas continues launching missles on Sderot this can scuttle the whole deal. How are the Israelis going to be motivated to uproot Jews now that the outcome of disengagement has been further attacks on Sderot and also Ashkelon, not to mention the war in Lebanon? Abbas is going to have his hands full with the civil war with Hammas, and he cannot afford if he is really setting up a "state" to have Hammas always undercutting him with armed attack on Israel after each deal is negotiated. Like or not Hammas is in Gaza, it is violent, and it is a traitor to the PLO state being invisioned. Without dealing with Hamas's treason, this concept of "state" is going to have a hard time taking off. There are really two entirely separate representations that have become a Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde representation system. Fixing the split personality is a prequesitie to having a healty atmosphere of discussion.
9. Peace Is Pushed Through A Terror State
Adina Kutnicki ,   US   (12.26.06)
Everyone should pay attention. Nowhere is there ANY indication that in order for this state to be established that terror needs to be stopped. Therefore, Bush/Rice and Olmert are in agreement to set up a terror state in Israel's heartland. How this idea fixe will promote peace is beyond normal comprehension!
10. Palestinian wants to set up a Taliban country in Israel
john ,   nz   (12.26.06)
11. Both Bush and Olmert were fooled by Abbas
john ,   nz   (12.26.06)
now that he has got the money
12. Fantastic!
Tracy W   (12.26.06)
There will be one more Muslim country embracing peace, tolerance and democracy. The world keeps getting better and better. Bush's success in Afghanistan and Iraq, plus the wonderful examples of Lebanon, Iran, Syria, and Gaza "politics"....all that must have given him the inspiration to "decide" that this is the right time for Palestinians to become a state. It wouldn't be a bad idea to ask Palestinians for their opinion, though. If only for the record.
13. don't hurry to condemn bush based on hearsay
Gaby ,   Boston, usa   (12.26.06)
14. state
dana ,   ny   (12.26.06)
and then all the Jewish libs with their shiksa wives will not only visit Israel for the first time, but will make aliyah!
15. Palestinian State
mark ,   westfield usa   (12.26.06)
Unless there is a palestinian state, eventually the arabs will push for one binational state, and that will be the end of Israel. I have been a rightist all of my life, and I have come to the conclusion that with or without the territories, Israel is a small state. Israel cannot continue to govern people that refuse to live with us. We must separate ourselves from the palestinians, give the arab-israeli the option of staying within Israel but with palestinian citizenship. The real threat is the arab-Israeli, not the palestinian, who cannot vote Israel out of existance.
16. SURE SURE
(12.26.06)
what a game, every american president before he leaves office promises poor palestinians a country.
17. Palestinian state in 2years
Eli E. Hertz ,   ny usa   (12.26.06)
United States yardstick for Palestinians, a hostile society, demanding to join the Family of Nations should be: Execute to the letter and intent the first basic requirement of the "Roadmap"; No short cuts. No discounts. Any other approach will promote Arab support for terrorism and the belief that ‘terrorism pays off.’ End to violence and democratic reform, that Palestinians have not even begun, is intolerable. Establishment of a Palestinian state now would be a genuine danger to a free and democratic Israel and a threat to the maintenance of international peace and security.
18. No US Embassy in Jerusalem Broken Pomises
Sam Weinstein ,   USA   (12.26.06)
No US Embassy in Jerusalem Broken Pomises
19. Does bush want Israel destroyed?
Jay ,   Israel   (12.26.06)
20. Come on, guys... Bush only does inevitable.
Jonas ,   SAD   (12.26.06)
What did you expect? These territories you occupied in 1967! How come that BEFORE 1967 there was not even a sound about "West Bank is Israel!" or "Gaza is Israel!" But no matter, as far as I remember, there were massive protests when you were withdrawing from Sinai - but you withdrew. The same will be here. The most important thing is to stop attacks on Israel - weather you will agree to hand over what you have occupied, that is of secondary relevance. Serbia had to hand over Croatia's conquered areas. Croatia and Serbia will have to hand over Bosnia's conquered areas. To recognize a SINGLE square foot of occupied land today, in 21st century, makes that a serious precedence. And more wars. And more occupation. But cheer up! If I remember correctly, all this will be returned to you when Meshiah comes - this Israel is merely a "middle" phase between no-state and meshiah-state. So what's the fuzz? What's the better way to show that somebody is meshiah - then by handing over the land and Al-Aqusa for a temple IN PEACE? What's better proof that somebody IS sent from G.d than giving away prejudices and false-believes in peace, and along with them their 2nd most important worshiping place for a Third Temple? So, relax, guys... No conquest - no problems. And what Bush does is intelligent indeed - if SAD recognizes Palestinian state, then ALL attacks from Gaza and West Bank on you are DECLARATION OF WAR FROM ONE SOVEREIGN STATE TO OTHER. In which case you can call for international attack, or you can respond in FULL EXTENSE of military means you have - without extreme prejudices, without fear how that would look. I mean, they fired first, right? And you can annihilate Hamas once and for ever - or force sovereign Palestinian government to that. Second state, next to you? Sorry, you WILL have to except that. You signed that you will. You banished 750.000 people out of their homes - now you have to have a place to bring that refugees back, and it is BETTER for you that they return to PALESTINIAN state. So, sorry, but Bush only does inevitable.
21. emanon....usa
iman ,   jerusalem   (12.26.06)

22. ...On the East Bank
Adam ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.26.06)
23. It Won't Happen
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (12.26.06)
"Palestinian state in two years" - the Arabs will undermine this effort on the way. They will screw things up one way or another - as always. Their only hope to live in peace and prosperity in the Land of Israel is for them to accept that this is the Land of the Jews. There is not enough elbow-room here for two sovereign states.
24. Israel wouldn't be able to reach a deal with Abu Mazen ..
redmike ,   tel aviv & london   (12.26.06)
Apart from the fact that Abu Mazen is pathetically weak and couldn't deliver if he were a waiter, he wants much more than Israel could ever give. Abu Mazen wants the same as Hamas but wants it sooner so ironically Israel could come to a short term deal much more easily with Hamas than with Abu Mazen. Hamas's long term goal is the total removal of Israel from the area since the region (and the world) belongs to Allah so that deal would only be good for a few years too. This is not a fight about land but of cultures - if one can say that Islam is a 'culture'. What is going on here is going on in Europe now to a lesser extent and will gradually spread wider and wider until Islam is confronted. The Islamic aim is world domination and rule of law by the Sharia so the non Islamic world must fight it or accept it with all that it entails.
25. #15 I agree with you!
Mark ,   USA   (12.26.06)
That is why their form of goverrnment must change!
26. The Arabs will never agree to divorce the Jews
Richard ,   USA   (12.26.06)
and have a second Pali state (Jordan is the first). What will they be? A poor Arab entity next to a prosperous Jewish one? It will not do anything for their wounded Arab pride that could not destroy the Jewish state. Therefore, they will continue terrorizing the Jews. It is the only thing they know how to do well. Do you expect them to get down to business and start producing? Of couse not! They now have the mentality of a loser who will be living off the European and American aid. Whatever they cannot get from the USA they will be getting from Israel. After all, the impatient Jews would do anything for peace, even bow to the Arab demands.
27.  Read My Liips : Follow Road Map
Mark ,   usa   (12.26.06)
Bush must follow his road map. He can not engage one day and then disengage for 2 years. He can not follow his own map.
28. #19 Yes, He wants to destroy Israel
Mark ,   USA   (12.26.06)
He wants to weaken Israel!
29. is this kind of propaganda or suddenly became human
(12.26.06)
Soon the Jews will charge him with ant-simitism as usual plus the usual ready charges like Nazi , anti-Israel , terrorists friend the same old brocken disc , when he was saying that he gets his orders from God and it was in your favore you were all happy and now you will not axept such order from God because this one don't suit you .... you are for laoughing guys .....lol
30. In Bush's place, I probably would do the same
Daniel ,   Formerly Israel   (12.26.06)
Consider that throughout Bush's term in office, and really ever since Oslo, Israel hasbeen at best a liability and at worst an enemy to the United States. No othr country has required so much military and political protection from the United states, and at the same time no other country, not even Iran, has given Islamic terrorists so much money and weaponry or so great a territory in which to train and plot. Perhaps Bush hopes that if he helps establish a Palestinian state that the Palestinians will become America's allies and fight the terrorists that Israel supports. He is of course in for a rude awakening, but given his situation and his level of knowledge his acions are quite understandable.
