When was the last time a Jew commited an "honer" killing? And in Ramla no less.

Her faith or ethnicity does not matter. She was a PERSON. Additionally, she appears to be an Israeli citizen and thus, such an act reflects on our society. Oppression of women degrades the society in which it is present. Look what happened to Afghan society when the Taliban abused women as they did. We, no matter whether or not we are of the same faith, should help root out violence and oppression against women out wherever we find it, wherever we can. This goes for honor killings to domestic violence against women. Let us pray for her poor children and pray that the perpetrator is found and imprisoned for life.

We Jews don't do 'honor killings'. Ramla is (at least!) 50% Arabic. So of course Arab.... which doesnt' make it any less worse. Condolences to the family (the part of the familt that was not behind the murder....).

you are right! california as in all america violence is indeed just around the corner. it happens daily and it is a problem in major cities. however, these crimes are not honor crimes. they are the crimes of the scum of society. it has nothing to do with families attempting to do away with their daughters or cousins or wifes because they dared turn their face on islam or their religion. yes, american husbands kill their wives. it is called a passion crime. yours is called an honor crime.....quite a big difference.

In America (California, Iowa, Texas)they do not call it an honor killing....although they could be.... What about the nut jobs that decide they are going to kill their whole family....then them selves? Could this be to protect their honor? Maybe? America calls it a murder suicide! Anyway YNET did a very nobel and non-biased job of reporting this story. It looks like the hate within the jewish community shows it self in these talk backs. The difference between honor/passion killings in civilized versus uncivilized/Arab/Muslim/whatever societies is the way they are viewed by those societies. In one it's a crime; end of story. In some of the other ones, they're excused, understood, condoned, considered normal and/or demanded by religious zealotry. Facts are facts, and they have nothing to do with prejudice. If I say that all rats are rodents, does that make me prejudiced against mammals???? I don't think so!

Why all the debate about honor killing or passion killing? Nothing justifies gunning a woman down in cold blood in front of her children. All possible excuses are horrifying. 1. Also, notice, in the event that this is an honor killing, the crime, perpetrated by an Arab, has an Arab victim - an Arab woman. The biggest victims of fanatical fundementalism are these women. I'm sure most Arab women in societies that condone honor killings DO NOT support such killings. We can donouce this act all we want. It will not help unless an awarness program is initiated to educated ppl that this is wrong, and to provide women with an alternate place to stay when their lives in in danger, does the authorities or anybody care?

We can't tell whether the perpetrator or the victim are Arabs at all..nowhere in the article doesn't mention it, which is good because it doesn't matter..it's a crime!! A crime against humanity! The worst of it is that the children were there..it will seriously be in their minds all their lives and affect them mentally in the least! May she rest in Peace! It turns out that even when there have been attempts to pressure the Jordanian legislature to make honor killings illegal, with no exceptions, there's still altogether too much spineless, weak-willed behavior on the part of those people who have the power to outlaw this behavior once and for all. So, while the tragic outcomes of both of these types of crimes are the same, it's the way society deals with them that makes the difference.

Rami, Please, know, we are all appalled by these killings of women and the excuses behind them. I do believe there are shelters for abused and endangered women and children, especially in Jerusalem. However, why don't the Arab/Muslim women create shelters for safehavens? Possibly, such institutions that exist for Jewish women can help you set them up for Arab/Muslim women. There are many in the States .They are all privately owned and run as non-profits.It is essential for Arab women to form groups and fight for their human rights . There are lawyers who specialize in this area as well. Please, this is 2006. If the women stand up, and I know, it is very perilous, you will have help and change your world. No one has the right to kill another, unless in self-defense. Jewish women will help. They can show you the way, even though they are working for their safety in many cases. Be strong , and band together. For your daughters as well.

Honor killings as they occur are mostly , if not always , premeditated , well planned . And that's why they are so disgusting . You hear such cases when a girl is murdered because she kissed a man , had relations without being married , or with a man not from the same clan or tribe . Those crimes are ordered by the family , father or brothers . How is this possible ? are they humans ? I can't imagine how a father can order to murder his daughter . Terrific
