31. Religion VS. Reality
Daniel ,   Tel Aviv   (03.07.07)
Not that anyone is actually reading this any longer, but, all this religious talk regarding pre-marital sex is not dealing with the point of the article. The author is not questioning or bringing up religion. The author is talking about people who are engaging in sexual behaviour. If we assume that there is no pre-marital sex, we are dooming ourselves to the spread of this disease. We can not ignore AIDS and hope it will go away, or only infect those who engage in pre-marital sex. AIDS also infects the elderly, the religous and children. It does not care whether you pray or not. While abstinence is always going to prevent the infection that does not deal with reality of the world. We are a sexually active culture. We therefore need to find a means of protecting ourselves and our children. To do otherwise is to condemn us all. To have open honest discussions about sexual practices is hard. Hard because some people would rather condemn and ostricize than support and learn to handle situations of infection. We are by our own intolerance condmening ourselves to further issues and perhaps even more virulent strains of HIV among the population of new infections down the road.
