2. one sided
charles ,   petach tikva   (01.14.07)
Before 67 , there was no "apartheid" as Carter calls it . There were no expropriations of "palestinian" land . So two of the "obstacles" to peace , cited by the former US president were inexistant . And what did we have ? terror attacks ! and later on general wars . To make peace you need both sides to want it . When Barak made those peace propositions to Arafat , who showed a will for peace ? and again terror as an answer . So mr Carter , peace is not wanted by the "palestinians" , it's them you have to blame , and not the Israelis
3. Carter is brave and courageous
Ralph ,   USA   (01.14.07)
Advice for everybody read this wonderfull encouraging book.
4. Carter
JPS ,   Efrat   (01.14.07)
Carter says of his book's title: "It doesn't refer to Israel." Carter is not known for being enormously ignorant or naive, so one can only conclude that he was fully aware of the Palestinian media campaign to smear Israel with the "apartheid" label. Thus Carter does not just accept the Palestinian propaganda that Israel embraces "apartheid", but puts this lie right in the title of his book. It makes him sound like either an out-and-out liar, or an apologist for Palestinian propaganda. It's like calling the book " Israel: Peace, not Islamic Fascho-Terrorism"? The book is not just biased - it promotes a monstrous falsehood and detracts from any good Carter might have contributed with it. Too bad. Instead of contributing to peace, he's contributed to the conflict.
5. There is no "Palestine." At least not yet.
Steve ,   USA   (01.14.07)
I always wonder why people speak of "Palestine," as though there is this country called Palestine. President Bush would like there to be a Palestinian (terrorist) state next to Israel --- in Judea, Samaria, Gaza, etc. --- in order to help the Muslim Arab world to annihilate Israel, yet there is no Palestine. Some call Jordan Palestine. I wish all Palestinian Muslims who hate Israel would sell their property and move to Jordan. Israel is still Israel despite what Mr. Carter says. At least for now it is.
6. what do you mean
(01.14.07)
by biased or one sided and all these terms to fool readers. when somebody tells the truth then it is a fact. when somebody say that the Israeli army killed a pals child with cold blood then this a fact there is no bias in the news. shame on your justice
7. carter favors the terrorist pals--unbelievable.
debra ,   usa   (01.14.07)
let carter live with suicide bombings, quassams, kidnapping of israeli soliders, and see how fast he changes his tune.
8. Watchout !! Carter might embark on Hajj pilgrimage soon!
KMR ,   Middle East   (01.14.07)
I noticed a recent trend:: Whenever leaders turn against Israel and try to prove white is dark, they usullay speak in the direction of Mecca.

It seems that you like many others have been brain washed by jewish propaganda.Go read some real history to educate yourself or else you don't post crap here.
10. Facts; can you refute them
(01.14.07)
Quoted from; Jimmy Carter, former U.S. President, speaking November 28th, 2006. The alternative to peace is apartheid, not inside Israel, to repeat myself, but in the West Bank and Gaza and East Jerusalem, the Palestinian territory. And there, apartheid exists in its more despicable forms, that Palestinians are deprived of basic human rights. Their land has been occupied and then confiscated and then colonized by the Israeli settlers. And they have now more than 205 settlements in the West Bank itself. And what has happened is, over a period of years, the Israelis have connected settlements with highways, and those highways make the West Bank look like a honeycomb and maybe a spider web. You can envision it. And in many cases, most cases, the Palestinians are prevented from using the highways at all, and in many cases, even from crossing the highways. By the way, every element of the Road Map has been adopted enthusiastically by the Palestinian side. None of the key elements in the Road Map have been adopted by the Israeli side. They have rejected all of them. http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=06/11/30/1452225
11. Carter and Apartheid
Verne Arnold ,   Portland, Oregon, U.   (01.14.07)
Jimmy Carter has spoken the truth. So what's the problem? Are the Zionist's afraid of the light. The true history of Israel is facinating and frightening. The last refuge of a scoundrel is patriotism. Verne Arnold Portland, Oregon U.S.A.
12. Could it be that, Jimmy ate too much peanuts
john ,   nz   (01.14.07)
or maybe he wants to die a martyr to the Palestinian cause.
13. Arabs and Native Americans
Steve ,   USA   (01.14.07)
It never ceases to amaze me when American leaders like Mr. Carter lecture Israel on the "acquisition of Arab land." I wonder if Mr. Carter has studied U.S. history; the history of Georgia (where he lives) and the Cherokees who were robbed of their ancient lands by Mr. Carter's grandparents, perhaps. The Jews returned to our own land, Israel. How then can we be "colonizers" as Carter insinuates? Mr. Carter's forebears from Europe, colonized and stole land from Native Americans, drove them west of the Mississippi in the most wretched of conditions --- thousands died of the excruciating journey --- Carter's grandparents violated treaty after treaty. American settlers coveted Native American land and their ancient hunting preserves. It is a very sad chapter in American history; the history of Carter's grandparents. Maybe President Carter should study President Andrew Jackson and his Indian wars; Jackson's 1830 Indian Removal Act ---- which the American people supported because they coveted Indian territories ---- and the Trail of Tears, etc. Maybe Carter should study the Mexican war and Manifest Destiny, the expansionist 11th president of the United States, James K. Polk, the virtual theft of Texas, New Mexico and California, the decimation of the Navajo Indians, etc., before lecturing Israel about Jewish land.
14. #9 anonymice?
Steve ,   USA   (01.14.07)
Why are you hiding? Why don't you identify yourself and your country? What do you mean "don't post crap here?" Is Ynet your own exclusive web site? I do know my history. I've studied it for years. What do you know? What kind of propaganda ---- about "Israel is actually Palestine" ---- are you ready to unload on us? Where was the capital of palestine? In what century or centuries was there a palestinian commonwealth as there was a Jewish commonwealth called Israel? Who was the king of palestine? We had David and Solomon. Who was your king? Why did Arabs living in Israel wish to be called Arabs, Syrians, whatever, until the Arabs lost territory in the Six Day War? Jews were called Palestinian Jews during the British mandate. There was the Palestinian Post, later the Jerusalem post. It is and was a Jewish newspaper. When did Arabs first begin to call themselves Palestinians for political purposes? Do you know?
15. #10 Road Map
Steve ,   USA   (01.14.07)
The Bush-Saudi road map is horrible. Israel should never accept such a terrible document and idea even with "exceptions" which Washington did not accept from the Sharon government. Road map is about ethnically cleansing Jews from our land only because they are Jews, because our Arab 'neighbors' do not want Jews in their new Palestinian state. President Bush, whether intentional or not, is helping Israel's enemies annihilate the Jewish state. This is the goal of the road map; the annihilation of Israel.
16. Not Jews
Watchdog ,   USA   (01.14.07)
The fact of the matter is that they are not even jews but caucasions who captured palestine.
17. Israel/apartheid
W.M.Clarke ,   Las Vegas Nevada USA   (01.14.07)
it is ironic that a nation that is a democracy in a part of the world that there is none feels that it has been attacked by President Carter. One day I would like to visit Israel, but I will do what Americans in the free world did to South Africa many years ago. Simply not go but to ask many questions. Why? Why fight over land that belongs to both? It is sad that generations of both Israeli and Palestinian must fight.not with words but with bullets and guns. I am not a President Carter fan. The only people that can solve the problem between Israel and Palestine is Israel and Palestine. The fighting must stop in the name of Abraham.
18. Unintended Consequences
Bob ,   Portland Maine   (01.14.07)
It's painfully ironic just how much the State of Israel works to defend itself and assure its survival, failing to see that so many of its 'justified' efforts have merely fanned the flames. Carter is rightly pointing out an injustice, and one which only works to motivate more bombers. You fight fire with water..
19. The Problem with Carter
Brod ,   USA   (01.14.07)
The problem with Carter is that he wrote on something that he knows nothing about. First, he is antisemitic. Second, he does not read Current Affairs books on Islamist-Jihadism written by brilliant scholars on this subject. Third, he accepted money from an Islamist-Jihadist state as Saudi Arabia to work on their agenda. If only Carter would spend time to educate himself on Islamist-Jihadism and the dark nature of the savages in the Middle East and around the world, he would not have written such a stupid book. I would urge Carter to read books by brilliant experts on Islamist-Jihadsim such as Mark A. Gabriel PhD, Gregory M. Davis PhD, Daniel Pipes PhD, Dore Gold PhD, Robert Spencer, Walid Shoebat, Ibn Warraq, Steven Emerson and Oriana Fallaci.
20. to # 6
charles ,   petach tikva   (01.14.07)
When a "palestinian" child is killed , it is only by mistake , never intentionally . Mostly because armed terrorist are hidding behind this child . When terrorist blow themselve up in an Israeli bus , it's only purpose is to murder as many Israelis as possible . And that are no myths , but facts .
21. #11 HAS THE RAIN IN THE NORTHWEST RUSTED YOUR BRAIN?
DAVID P ,   USA   (01.14.07)
TRUTH, WHAT IS THE TRUTH, EVERY INDIVIDUAL HAS THEIR OWN INTERPRETATION, CARTER HAS HIS AND B/C HE'S AN EX-PRESIDENT HE IS GIVEN THE FLOOR TO SPEAK HIS MIND. THATS ALL IT IS THOUGH, AN ELDERLY SOUTHERN MAN SPOUTING HIS RHETORIC WETHER IT BE ACCURATE OR NOT IS ENTIRELY UP FOR DEBATE. THOSE WHO HATE ISRAEL WILL AGREE WITH MANY OF CARTERS VIEWS B/C HE IS CRITICAL ONLY OF ISRAEL. THE RESIGNATION OF 15 BOARD MEMBERS ON HIS STAFF HOWEVER IS VERY SIGNIFICANT.
22. #10 Here is refutation
JPS ,   Efrat   (01.14.07)
Here is verbatim text from the roadmap that refutes your false claim that the Palestinians have adobted every element of the road map. This is only one of the many elements the Palestinians have refused to adopt: "Palestinians declare an unequivocal end to violence and terrorism and undertake visible efforts on the ground to arrest, disrupt, and restrain individuals and groups conducting and planning violent attacks on Israelis anywhere."
23. #18 HOW WOULD YOU HANDLE BEING SURROUNDED IN A SEA OF HATE
DAVID P ,   USA   (01.14.07)
INJUSTICE, WHERE IS THE INJUSTICE IN PROTECTING YOUR CITIZENS FROM A POPULATION BENT ON YOUR DEMISE.
24. Carter, I bought your book...and I love you
Hani ,   Montreal   (01.14.07)
The Pen is Mightier than The Sword. Your pen shall illuminate the new generations of Americans on the plight of the Palestinian people and the brutal occupation + abuse of their lands at the hand of the racist Settlers.
25. Misrepresentation in Plain Language.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (01.14.07)
Misrepresentation is normally known as lying. Mr. Carter is a liar. Just the fact that he chose to use a term like apartheid with all it's negative connotations & then try to explain it away is less than honest.
26. provocation of debate –now absent- in the USA; his main aim
(01.14.07)
JIMMY CARTER : “So the book is deliberately -- I wouldn't say controversial, but it's deliberately designed to be provocative, because, as I said earlier, in Israel and in Europe, these kind of issues are debated every day, in a most vehement way, particularly in Israel. Pros and cons, arguing back and forth, in the news media, television, radio, the major newspapers. Never, in this country, do you hear any of these issues proposed publicly by an elected member of the House or the Senate or in the White House or NBC or ABC or CBS, New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times. Never. And I think it's time for Americans to start looking at the facts about the Mid-East situation. And only then, and based on the knowledge of the facts, will we ever have a chance to move forward and consummate a peace agreement that would give Israel what they need and what they deserve -- permanent peace, recognized by their neighbors and all Arab countries and the rest of the world -- and the Palestinians to have their human rights, their land and a chance to have their own state, side by side, living in peace with their Israeli neighbors.” http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=06/11/30/1452225
27. Jordan Palestine bans Jews, none in Gaza..who is racist?
David ,   Boston, USA   (01.14.07)
Give me a break. If you look at the Arab world, its clear that non Arabs and non Muslims are second class citizens. The Arab world is truly an Apartheid world. All citizens are equal in Israel, not perfect, but equal. I believe there is more prejudice between religious and non religious Jews and between Sehpardic and Ashkenazis than with Arabs. Carter was an aweful President and he has learned nothing as he aged, a tired old man who prefers to blame the true people who are suffering than the terrorists and racist who cause the problems.
28. Basic Facts
Lee ,   New York   (01.14.07)
The very 1st comment of famed biblical commentator Rashi predicts what Carter is trying to do: deprive the Chosen People of its birthright. Jews raised in secular Israel are largely ignorant of facts such as those Alan Dershowitz brings forth but also from millennia of Jewish history (RabbiWein.com). Christians of good will know this tiny people deserves a sliver of land--amongst nearely two dozen huge Arab countries. Study, learn history, and be proud.
29. Need anything else be said?
Sidney ,   USA   (01.14.07)
From a news report" former President Ford once called Jimmy Carter a "disaster"
