31. Hani in occupied Canada
Ivri   (01.14.07)
You must have bought the "Readers Digest " version.
32. wall versus fence
(01.14.07)
“only four percent of the barrier being built is actually a wall”……and you do not think that this 96%-fence is not as effective as a wall ! I would say an up-to-date technology based fence is even more “effective”.
33. Occupation?
vered ,   israel   (01.14.07)
Doesn't anyone have any comments anywhere regarding the greed and selfishness regarding fanactic Arab factions wanting to own all of the Middle East? Doesn't anyone notice there is something wrong when Arab countries holding huge areas of land have such a problem with every inch of space in little tiny Israel?
34. carter
john ,   trumbull ct.   (01.14.07)
Israel has done everything Carter's book has said they did.Why deny it?? Maybe it is a little too late now.
35. Carter...
Jake ,   USA   (01.14.07)
...is nothing more than another liberal trying to justify is presidency that only led to double digit inflation, long gas lines and terrorists with a strangle hold on Americans abroad. We're actually supposed to listen to what he says about foreign policy? This is the same guy that told us the little guy in N. Korea was "intelligent".
36. #14 ok ok :)
(01.14.07)
so you know more than Carter , ha ? you should be the next US president then ! LOL ENOUGH BULL SHIT ,PLEASE !
37. Carterheid-the failed Presidency
Machiavelli ,   Gtown   (01.14.07)
Carter has cuddled up to the most despicable dictators during his tenure, while they turned him into a joke. Which he still is!
38. Disingenuous Carter
raoulschur@hotmail.c ,   Netanya   (01.14.07)
Carter says that he chose the word *apartheid* as part of his title very carefully. How disingenuous. He knows the inflammatory effect that hateful word has, and it doesn't help that he now tries to back-pedal by saying that it only refers to the occupied territories. People that are disgusted with the use of that term will not touch the book, and shallow, impressionable, warped thinkers will lap it up.
39. Camp David will now be forgotten...
Norman Feister ,   US   (01.14.07)
It's a shame that the 1978 peace treaty Carter negotiated between Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Premier Menachem Begin, will now be forgotten in the anals of history. Carter kept the two leaders at Camp David in Maryland for 13 days until they reached the agreement - what a waste!
40. How dare he!
A Mason ,   Tampa, USA   (01.14.07)
The barage of attacks on President Carter's book prove his point, in America and American policy no one is permitted to even raise an issue criticizing Israel! Whatever that Country does. That cannot be a good thing for America. INstead of attacking Carter, why don't people debate his comments, is he Wrong? He is only presenting FACTS on the ground.
41. Ethan Bronner's distortions
ted ,   NYC   (01.14.07)
Blind New York Times Continues Attacks on Jimmy Carter http://www.zmag.org/content/print_article.cfm?itemID=11801§ionID=107
42. Carter was a terrible president, and is
Johnson ,   USA   (01.14.07)
a Jew hater. If it were not for Jimmy we would not be in the mess we are in today with Iran.
43. #23
(01.14.07)
It's injustice if civilian populations are being targeted, constrained or denied the basics to live (in either direction) RE: Protecting your citizens.. that's exactly the point. The continual and predictable failure of this process has kept anti-Israel sentiment at the forefront throughout the ME, so it has clearly continued to ENDANGER the Israeli People. It's not working, and another direction must be tried. Sea of Hate.. of course. It's hard not to see the way Israel was established as a cruel example of "Keep them at each other's throats, and we get oil and sell lots of guns" ("Sincerely, London/Washington") If Israel and the Int'l community was developing a process for rebuilding the infrastructure in the Palestinian areas, food, water, education, business support.. then there would be a chance to allow the Pal people to become split about the suicide bombing.. but in sheer hopelessness, what would you expect?
44. Carter is a brave and courageous American.
(01.14.07)
45. XMAS gifts
Fadi ,   Cleveland   (01.14.07)
i bought 50 copies and gave it as a XMAS gifts to all my American friends ....it is amazing the impact... they already started talking about 242 and the separation walls and why we are giving our money to those #####..
46. Rotten food for the brain
Alex ,   Berlin, Germany   (01.14.07)
Mr. Carter is just another gentile man who's been trying to line up his recent work in a long row of books and essays either discussing or offering a "Final Solutions of the Jewish Question". His contribution, however, is as irrelevant as its impact, although it certainly will be considered an event of the year by some Arab and Norwegian readers, and might cheer them up too. That said, I am convinced that the brains of Carter's readers are as smart as their stomachs, that, once fed rotten food, are not going to digest it, but will send it back up the way it came, thereby not allowing it into the blood stream.
47. What Apartied DOESN'T mean
Kate ,   Jerusalem   (01.14.07)
Carter's insinuation that an Aparteid system exists in Israel really demonstrates his lack of "grasp" on the situation and his lack of a basic dictionary. "Apartied" is a systematic discrimination intended to keep people of different races apart for "cultural" purposes. (and that's the sanitized version). The PA-Israeli conflict, like many others in the world, has no connection to this system. Here we have two seperate nationalist groups (like the Basques and the Spaniards) - fighting over who has the right to rule and who owns what. That, Carter, may not be a nice situation, but it is NOT apartied!
48. Has been!!
adi   (01.14.07)
Who cares This news from decades ago
49. Carter
ernie ,   aventura, usa   (01.14.07)
Most-if not all-of those who resigned seem to have Jewish names. It would be more emphatic if others on the Committee, who are not jewish, would do the same.
50. #9,#36- little boy, school is fun - really!
Alex ,   USA   (01.14.07)
I presume the same retard is hiding bihind both of these posts. #14 already told you and everyone else - read, study historical books - you shall find everything you need there. I am guessing from your eloquent posts that you are about 14 years old. So as you are growing, learn to base your opinions on proven historical material, not on gossips, and what your similarly lost, pimply friends told you and the warped opinion of the senile ex-president.
51. carter book. response to talkback #13
bharat Desai ,   palm harbor   (01.14.07)
In trying to compare american and mexican colonization, and therby justifying israeli occupation, the writer circumvents the fact that israel is trying to annex palesteninan land in blatant disregard for international law and trying to claim to be morally superior at same time!!!!!!! and its a shame that we,american taxpayers are paying for israeli arrogance and unjust occupation.shame on israelis and those jews who forgot what its like to be persecuted !!!!!!!
52. carter-israel
robert ,   lakewood ny   (01.14.07)
you're absolutely right david in boston;the hypocracy of the person-carter- is unparelled. if he really believed his drivel, he'd give back his peanut farm to the indians. not too realistic is it ?! the fact is years before israel controlled gaza and the west bank they were attacked relentlously by their palistinian neighbors; it's a no brainer, all countries are sworn to protect their borders and heartland from those who woould and do use whatever means to usurp your property. the parils of war include the loss of rights and property should you be the loser-any map of the world will demonstrate how that has occured; one could go on but it would be redundant; we know what most of the world wants and they're not going to get it- they stood idly by 65 years ago; jews survived, israel was reborn; it wont happen again
53. Jimmy is lovin every minute of this
malcolm   (01.14.07)
He - Craves the attention - Doesn't care if he is considered one sided - Hates Jews (learned on Mamma Carter's knee) - Became a Born again Christian in the 70s when they believed Jews are the cause of all problems in the world and we Jews are all going to hell for killing their god -Hates Israel -Fell in love with Yasser Arafat, & loves any enemy of the Jews& Israel
54. #36 I know more than Carter?
Steve ,   USA   (01.14.07)
I make no claim to knowing more than Jimmy Carter about the inner workings of government or all the details of Camp David and the "peace" process he championed. He was there. I was not. Yet there's been numerous charges of distortions and plagiarizing of maps that Carter apparently took from former Mideast envoy Dennis Ross' book without attribution. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,235422,00.html Mr. Carter has sold himself to the highest anti-Israel Arab bidder --- in this case the Saudis --- consequently I think his objectivity comes into question. Indeed, I question Mr. Carter's Christianity and his knowledge of his Jewish savior. I think Mr. Carter will be in for a bitter surprise or rude awakening when one day he meets this Jew he claims to honor and worship.
55. THE SOONER THE BETTER
(01.14.07)
GET OUT OF PALESTINE .
56. Talkback #51, response to you
Steve ,   USA   (01.14.07)
I am not comparing early American colonialism, I am contrasting. Unlike the Jews, the Europeans had no claim to the America's, they took it by sheer force and robbery. But Bharat, this is the history of nations, conquering and dispossessing the native inhabitants. What nation on earth today other than maybe China and one or two others, are the aboriginal inhabitants. I am not complaining about this. My point is, Carter as a self-professed Christian out to "take the log out of his own hypocritical eye" before he looks at the speck in his brother's eye! International law to me is worthless when it comes to Israel as is the CRIMINAL United Nations that makes it. What do oil-corrupted international lawyers have to say about the Holy Land and to whom it belongs by right? Jews are not occupying land that belongs or belonged to someone else. The land belongs to the Jews. All of it. From the Jordan River to the Mediterranean; from the Golan to Elat. It is all Israel. This land belongs to the Jews forever and the Arabs live on the land at the good pleasure of the Jews. Yet, the Arab inhabitants are in many cases wearing out their welcome. How much more violence and terror can the Jews take from these people who occupy Jewish land? On the one point I agree with you. It is indeed a shame that the American taxpayers are subsidizing Israel's welfare. It's a shame Israel is so very dependent on America. I would prefer to live in a tiny house or a tent than be economically dependent on American largess. U.S. aid comes at a heavy price. The U.S. demands huge concessions of Jewish land to a people that it does not belong to. I appreciate the fact that the U.S. is willing to sell Israel advanced weapons. Beyond that, Israel needs to wean herself from American dependency. This would be good for America and great for Israel.
57. #19 is absolutely right
Michael ,   Austin, TX   (01.14.07)
Carter is now "owned" by the Saudis and must do everything they tell him to do. additionally, I think the man has got some cerebral atrophy.
