Israel is the only democracy in the ME and that's a fact.
2. Imagine if Israel were not Democratic
Semsem ,   New York, USA   (01.18.07)
Imagine if Israel were not democratic. You would have a rapist as President, a crook as President with 50% of the Ministers involved in corruption and hanky panky. We would be no different than the Palestinian Government. While we should be somewhat ashamed we can also be proud that these imoral people finally get caught.
3. So?
john ,   toronto   (01.18.07)
First of all, anyone can write a long article and quote lots of readers, but most imoprtantly to actually mention the source. I can write a very long article that proves all that was said here wrong and also quote israelies who though hizbullah won and not mention my sources. An article with no source is not credible. Its just basically someone presenting his/her own opinion but to back it up he/she just make up some quotes from different people to prove a point. Also, lets assume all of what was said is correct. I have also read many talkbacks on ynetnews from israelies who though Hizbullah won, and I agree with them because it just doesnt make sense that Halutz would resign if he didnt lose miserably in the last war. The war was simply started to get soldiers back, and guess what? it has been around 7 months now and the soldiers are still with Hizbullah. I my opinion that means Hizbullah is still winning!
4. Proof of the worth of Torah Values
Roscio ,   Rome, Italy   (01.18.07)
This proves that when Jews comport themselves according to derech eretz, we perform Kiddush HaShem and increase Israel's status and strength, even in the Arab world. This also proves that Olmert and Peretz are only successful at doing Chillul HaShem and continually disgracing and weakening Israel. Instead of defending Torah and Israel, they are only concerned with defending their cushy jobs. Pray that they leave office soon! In fact, show them the door!
5. and the website is...?
Luis ,   Southampton, UK   (01.18.07)
I think they didnt teach Guy bechor to add at least one reference to support his argument? It could all be made up quotes for all i know...maybe next time, a reference to the arab talkback would help in proving his point.
6. What a bunch of Crap.
An Arab ,   Middle East   (01.18.07)
Wow what a bunch of crap. Hizbullah clearly won because the underdog has to survive but Israel is licking its wonds and the resignation is the testiment to that. You can put your famous jewish spins on the truth but truth is truth. Secondly we donot learn from Jews, they dont belong here in M.E. Thirdly i am a sunni and i supported the hizb and still do.
7. "A historic and strategic victory" for Hezbullah
Shiloh ,   Philadelphia USA   (01.18.07)
The Zionists have the most powerful weapons available, the newest military technology and many more troops than Hezbullah. Hezbullah has no helicopter gunships, no war planes to drop devilish cluster bombs,no tanks and no large artillery. News reports state that Hezbullah has less than 3,000 fighters, yet the IDF did not defeat Hezbullah even though Israel bombed Lebanon mercilessly. This was a victory for Hezbullah, a victory that has changed the dynamics of the region. No longer are the Muslims afraid of the Zionists' military power. Like the U.S., Israel has overwhelming firepower, but IDF generals and soldiers lack the courage to confront the enemy in direct combat. Islamic philosophy has no fear of death. The Christians and the Jews are materialists who love this temporal world. The IDF, nor the U.S. can instill fear into the heart of an individual who does not fear death. This is why Israel must start to treat the Palestinians and all of their Arab neighbors humanely, with justice and equity. The IDF military might will never secure peace for the Zionists. Also, God is not on the side of the secularists. God would grant Israel victory over all of their enemies if the people of Israel obeyed The Law. The israelis who disobey The Law incur God.s wrath against Zionist Israel. Lastly, if Muslims obeyed The Quran and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) no non-Muslims would be able to oppress and/or rule over them.
8. Arab world salutes Halutz
ralf ,   uk   (01.18.07)
this is a crap article
9. Who won the war??
Emilio ,   DC   (01.18.07)
Simple, it is true that not beating the crap out of the terrorist represents a blow to the IDF, but in order to call victory, I think that you have to ask some very simple questions Which country has its infraestructure destroyed? How many people died on each side? WHich country is going to have to spend years rehabilitating from its economic, social disgrace? If you answerd Lebanon / Hizbullah in every single question, and you still think that is victory, well, in that case your perception of reality is really questionable. I do believe that the IDF under new military leadership, new political leaders (meaning no Olmert and Peretz), and less restrain can win every single war. Because we have proven so!!
10. To 7 Shiloh - So why is Nassralah in hiding?

Arie ,   Afula   (01.18.07)
You clearly stated the arabs. Thank you
12. To # 6
Richard S. ,   Miami, USA   (01.18.07)
Crap is your claim that Jews do not belong in the Middle East. Time for you to open real history books not edited by the Wahabists. Jews were there before Islam even existed. Jews were there when Muhammad was stil running around, and Jews will be there forerver. Remember those that do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Just ask the so-called Palestinians....
13. To # 6 The Crap.
Pier ,   Stockholm   (01.18.07)
As an ARAB why do u read an Israeli Newspaper... Maybe because as a democracy Israeli papers say the truth and YOU DO NOT BELIEVE YOUR OWN PAPER.......Do Not Bullshit us. No one believe arabs anymore.... no even you the shiite........ After all its is well known that " FROM DEFEAT TO DEFEAT THE ~ARABS ARE SAILING TO THE FINAL VICTORY" ... What a crap you are serving us!!!!!!!! Either you are an Honest reader or go read your own paper and stop polluting.....
14. hizbullah and halutz
fish ,   t-a   (01.18.07)
Shiloh fro USA, you're plain silly, darling. Nobody in Israel calls this was a victory, but Hizb is bragging that it nearly crushed Israel. Where? When? The face of Nasrallah when he was mumbling on TV that he wouldn't start the provocation if he only know and his pale colour shows to anyone what his true feelings are. The difference is - Nasrallah is accountable only to Iran, and he won't admit his mistakes. Half of Lebanon is bombed into kingdom come, and IDF had its hands tied - due to people like Halutz and Olmert which have lost their power due to their gross mistakes. Muslims aren't afraid of Israel anymore? So you want to try again? Aren't you afraid that next time we have a better and cleverer leadership and use our firepower in a stronger was, what will you say?
15. #6 Wow!
Logic ,   Israel   (01.18.07)
"We don't learn from Jews, they don't belong here in M.E." Smart people learn from everyone, no matter their background, as long as they have something of value to teach. Jews have been in the "M.E." before Islam was established, and before the Arabian conquest, and many have never left the region. So read up on the subject before you post. Finally, you're just revealing your ignorance, which is a huge reason for why the "M.E" looks the way it does.
16. Hizbolla had so low expectation that he could not loose
Joseph ,   Canada   (01.18.07)
But Halutz thought mistakenly that the could won only with air force. Ground force was the solution, but IDF did not want to suffer casualties.. The wars are won on the ground ...
17. #7 Hizbala built deep underground bunkers for years
Marc ,   USA   (01.18.07)
No conventional military power can beat tunnels that are dug hundreds of feet underground. Actually, no army could have won this type of war.
18. Why all these silly stuff?
Itzik ,   Haifa   (01.18.07)
I don't know ANYONE who believes that we have not lost the war. It was pure and clear defit. Because Peres and Beilin kissed Arafat it does not mean that they are wives of Arafat (or his boyfriends if you know what I mean).
19. those talkback from gov.sites who
tea man ,   marj leb   (01.18.07)
are jealous of hizz victory becuase hizz is a shia and won while allthe sunni armies of 22 arab country had a single victory since the alegrian revolt it sounds more like envy than a fact
20. To #7
Sarge ,   Rochester   (01.18.07)
Shiloh--being that many Muslims live in the U.S.A. (a country ruled by a non-islamic system,) does that mean they are 'ruled over' due to their location or is it failing in their lifes? "...if Muslims obeyed The Quran and the teachings Prophet Mouhammad (pbuh) no Non-muslims would be able to oppress and/or rule over them." You are a smart, informed, well-spoken person. Please help me understand why Muslims stay in such a place? A place with a tradition of secular goverance, such as the U.S.A., seems to be the last place any Muslim would want to live. Unless, they are an advance guard of some sort.
21. #7 - which teaching of Mohammad should we follow ....

My family is perhaps the best-known and most well-respexted African-American family in Rochestor, NY. My family was one of the first Black familys in Pittsford. I was born into a Christian family and embraced Islam as a teenager. I myself often wonder why Muslims from overseas come to this country. The answer is economics. I myself would love to leave America if I had the resources to relocate. I would love to move to almost any Muslim country or to Africa. The Muslims that come to America for the most part are irreligious, secular-minded Muslims. A pious Muslim hates living in this den of immorality and sin. The Americans who embrace Islam often desire to leave. Because upon embracing Islam and its philosophy one finds its difficult to live in overtly sinful and racist society like the U.S. So yes Sarge it is somewhat of a failing in the lives of Muslims that are governed by Non-Muslims. Also, true, from an Islamic standpoint if a Muslim obeys the teachings of Islam no none Muslims will have superiority or control over them. Also, sir, if the western nations would assist the developing countries to advance and and industrialize and not just usurp the natural resources of the developing nations many foreigners would have no need to come to America. Give my regards to the Genessee Valley.
23. prominent family Shiloh
la ley ,   Vermont, USA   (01.18.07)
So, then, economics clearly trump religious identity given that more Muslims come to this nation than leave it. If being in this great nation is such a bummer (oh us materialists do apologize...but we'll take our free and open society) then why not scrounge a few dinars and move? Make 'aliyah' to Tunisia, I'm sure the proud Islamic government has arranged for a diverse and thriving job market and will welcome a Muslim brother to the cause! Hatzlacha! Furthermore, I really don't think anyone cares about who your family is, or where they are from. Why don't you ask your prominent family for enough money to go to, say, Yemen or even that pillar of pluralism and egalitarianism, S.Arabia!!! Then you could revel in the culture of death that you seem to love so much. Or, maybe you should join one of the authoritarian, anti-democratic, anti-minority (be it religious, sexual orientation, etc.) "parties of G-d" out there!!! Wouldn't that be great. Oh, and when you get there, tell Nasrallah that when he comes out from his 500 foot deep bunker, that his days are numbered. Am Yisroel Chai! My regards to Upper Merion...

25. I really hope the peace won
Neshri ,   Israel   (01.18.07)
Everyone lost in this war. Crimes were committed so why brag? Lives were lost carelessly. The big lesson is no one can win. Only peace wins with no more war.
26. WE LOST, and the sooner we can admit it the better
Daniel ,   Formerly Israel   (01.19.07)
Hezbullah started this war by kidnapping our soldiers in hopes of exchanging them for hundreds of its own. The war ended and the soldiers were stillin their hands, theirfore their attack succeeded and our counterattack failed and they won and we lost. The fact that our world-image was tarnished and our deterrent capability utterly destroyed is just an added bonus for Hizbullah, but they won the war even without that, and the sooner israel can admit ths, the sooner it can start to recover from this defeat
27. To My friend Neshri; I also want peace
Daniel ,   Formerly Israel   (01.19.07)
The great Greek philosopher Aristotle, a man much smarter than either of us, once said "we make war so that we may live in peace", and I have come to terms with war based largely on this principle, a principle well-demonstrated by last summer's war. Remember that Hizbullah launched an attack similar to the one it launched last summer back in 2000 or 2001, and had we gone to war than, when Hezbullah was weaker, and seen the battle through to the end, we would have lost fewer men and last summer's more deadly war never would have happened. What is more, because we were so eager for peace that we pulled out of the last war without winning it, Hizbullah was allowed to servive and grow stronger, and it can and undoubtedly will (as it has already stated) launch yet another adn even more deadly war against Israel, a war that we could have prevented by winning the last one. Peace is a good thing, maybe the best of things, adn like all good things it is worth fighting for, and had we fought the last war forcefuly and not pulled out in the name of a quick, fake peace, we would now be facing true peace (at least in the north) instead of the quiet of the hurricane's eye.

Sarge ,   Rochester   (01.19.07)
Greetings from Pittsford! Thank-you for your reply. If you are who you say (and I know you speak the truth) then I must know your family. That being said, I find it hard to believe a person such as yourself has no resources to go where he pleases. The family you speak of, is raft with what we call "trust-funders". Have you been put out of that circle because of your beliefs? If so, I find such a situation to be untenable. You and I both know what you say about Pittsford is local "code". Your family is very well-respected and indeed, loved here. I seek the truth...your missive in return to my questions has helped me see the truth from your perspective. I have one more question for you, If I may be so bold. Why can't one group be happy and proud of the way they worship without claiming the other group is in error? This happens in every Religious faith. However, I would seem to me that many Islamic people worry about the way other Moslems worship as much as they worry about their own practices. Why is this? Is it control issue? Is it a feeling that salvation is not a personal, yet rather, a group resposability? Is it a lack of personal faith? You are a strong person . Why would you care if others are on the wrong path?
29. Israel won!

To all of you: read this Lebanese paper en see what happened to Hez. bunkers. Why arn't the Hezis no more there?...!:http://www.libanoscopie.com/FullDoc.asp?Doccode=1154&Cat=1
30. TO SARGE
Shiloh ,   Phila. USA   (01.19.07)
That is my uncle that lives in Pittsford, he was just here visiting my mother for her 80th birthday. I am proud to say that my grandfather is buried about 100 yards from Frederick Douglass in Mt. Hope Cemetary. I am, like my mother was, an educator in the public schools. I am the sole income in my hiusehold, we have 4 children (ages 6-17) I've been married for 20 years. I am the working poor, other wise I would make a HIJRAH to another country. Heck, i can barely make it from check to check. I've tried to adhere to the principals of Islam and not involve myself with interest and it is not always easy to live without using credit in the U.S. If you notice many foreign-born Muslims own gas stations and stores that sell liquor, beer, wine, lottery tickets, pork sandwiches and cigarettes. Except for cigarettes, all are forbidden in Islam. Many immigrant Muslims western busnesses that are religously wrong, but high profit ventures. The many beautiful Islamic centers and Masjids (mosques) being built in the U.S. are from unlawful monies. In regards to you question about sects in Islam. Only the enemies of Islam benefit from Islamic disunity. I was born here, I am an African-American. There is no history of sect vs. sect animosity in the U.S., nor in West Africa, where my forefathers are from. Sect vs sect violence is a poison from the Middle East and Indo-Pak sub-continent. I pften tell Arabs and Pakistanis who try to incite sect disunity to "Go back home" with that insanity. 'Divide and conquer' was a strategy of the British as they went about the world colonizing various lands. Only the enemies of Islam forment sect violence. In the Muslim world very few people truly believe it is the Sunnis and Shias really setting off the car bombs ands attacking the mosques. Many Muslims earnestly believe it is the U.S. planting the bombs to create chaos and a sense that the U.S. is needed to stabilize things. Whereas the real intentin is to etablish permanent U.S. bases in Iraq to facilitate the stealing of their oil. If you desire further dialog contact my uncle and he will give you my mothers telephone # and you call her and get my telephone #.Peace to you Sarge.
