Methodist minister donates kidney to rabbi    Reuters
1. ?
Is it halachically permissible to do this? What type of Rabbi is he?
brocha ,   yerushalayim   (01.21.07)
2. minister earned a free ticket to gan eden
good job!
hanina   (01.21.07)
3. Know them by their fruits
Such illness is on the heads of men of G-d? Take a note. No majic or false gods.
Josh   (01.21.07)
4. How can a Jew receive an organ from a pork-eating goy?
(01.21.07)
5. to # 4
How can you write such hate tb . Did you ever heard of Pikuach Nefesh ? Instead of congratulating this Minister for what he did , you talk about a "pork eating goy" . Be ashamed , you are right to write anonymously . Did you , or someone in your family need once a blood transfusion ? did you ask who the donor was ? SHAME ON YOU .
charles ,   petach tikva   (01.21.07)
6. #4, #5 - This has never been a problem
Israelis are always going overseas for transplants, because not enough of their fellow citizens carry donor cards. At one point some fundamentalist Jew, I don't remember who, suggested a separate blood collection for Jews that want "kosher" blood, but MDA refused to agree to that (think how the same fundamentalists Jews would feel if it were the other way around).
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (01.21.07)
7. Dorothy
You could have add # 1 .
charles ,   petach tikva   (01.21.07)
8. #7
I think #1's problem was with the rabbi saying it was permissible to give an organ. I never heard even the most fundamentalist Jews speak against receiving an organ, only against giving.
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (01.21.07)
9. # 4
Hang your head low in shame. Very low.
Sagi ,   Israel   (01.21.07)
10. In Shock
Firstly, my warmest wishes to the Minister who has donated her kidney. May she recover quickly from her surgery. Yes, she too has to undergo surgery and anesthesia. EVERYONE can learn a lesson from this. I wish you both well and the recipient a speedy recovery and a full and healthy life (ad 120) Secondly, I cannot believe what I have read in some of the talkbacks. What nastiness and more than that, the display of utter ignorance and racism! Because we live in Israel, we think that it is only permissible between Jews. WAKE up. If you were in desperate need of a transplant, as 1000s are, you would take any organ that was a match for you. Do you think that if an orthodox jew living in Israel was desperated for a transplant and the only one available for him was from a non-jew living in Israel, he would refuse it? If you really think that, then why not go on a visit to any of the dialysis centres in the country and ask them. I assure you the answer would be.... We will take a kidney from ANYONE. So once again, kol hakavod to the minister, and may we all learn from this wonderful example. Pro organ transplant. Adriane
Adriane ,   Israel   (01.21.07)
11. reply to #4: You just convert the kidney!
D Hirod ,   UK   (01.21.07)
12. # 4 My original post
to you was obviously censored and not permitted, hence my second post # 9. I would like to add that you are a very sick person and also quite disgusting. I also would like to point out to you and to the editors that I was polite and the words I used were all words in Webster's dictionary. If the editors allowed your pathetic comment then I suggest that they should have permitted my response. I hereby file my complaint.
Sagi ,   Israel   (01.21.07)
13. #4 Orhodox Sickness
To read #4 is to be reminded once again how sick fundamentalist Judaism can be.( To be fair.this is also true of ultra Orhodox in most every religion). The contempt, the arrogance ,the unjustified sense of moral and religious supremacy of these lunatics is breathtaking- and frightening. God Please protect us from the fundamentalists of ALL religion- Jew or Gentile.
Jewish CANADIAN ,   toromto canada   (01.21.07)
14. # charles, for once I gree with u, every word
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (01.22.07)
15. "jewish" Canadian
No orthodox person excep the individual in #4 could have put those words Quit hating any religion and judaism in particular about time
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (01.22.07)
16. I think #4 is a fake
I've never heard or read of any Israeli saying s/he wasn't going overseas for a transplant for fear of getting a "non-kosher" organ.
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (01.22.07)
17. Gabriela # 15
Even i can't imagine an orthodox , or even a Charidi , writing this # 4 . Shame on him
charles ,   petach tikva   (01.22.07)
18. #4
horrible., but why does anewspaper repeat the idiocy of one person to cast all Jews in abad light!
noson tzvi ,   J-M   (01.22.07)
19. #4 - I still say it's a fake
The problem is with getting fundamentalists to donate organs, not to accept them.
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (01.22.07)
20. #4, You are either ignorant or an anti religious instigator
If ignorance happens to be the case, yours is beyond comprehension. Surely you must know that in Judaism human life is identical. Jew or non-Jew, religious or secular. Saving any human life is halachically mandated in Jewish law.
Beth Landau ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (01.23.07)
21. (4) is no Jew. A Jew would never write something like that
No Way Jose ,   Somewhere   (01.23.07)
22. #9, 15, 17 I fully agree - # 4 is an Anti Semitic impostor
No Jew in their right mind would speak that way. It's most likely another one of our enemies misquoting the Talmud to smear and humiliate us. Anyone with a minimal knowledge of the Jewish faith knows that organ transplants are considered a mitzva regardless of race, religion or color.
Beth Landau ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (01.23.07)
23. Just an observation
I think it is interesting how in most talkbacks where Christians are concerned, there is nothing but scorn, suspicion, and contempt. Jews gotta separate from the gentiles lest assimilation occur or worse: conversion. Nothing but persecution from them in the past and, inevitably, in the future. But when it comes to organ transplant to save a Jew, there seems to be NO problem with them. I guess gentiles are good for something, just didn't figure they'd be found acceptable for farming organs. How convenient that is.
(01.23.07)
24. to anon # 23
Look first at which kind of Christians are not so welcome . We can not accept missionarys here whose sole aim is to try to convert people . We can not accept people interfering in our problems by citing Christian scriptures . Good Christians are always welcome , they are not criticised , nor viewed with suspicion . And another time you write , not anonymous please .
charles ,   petach tikva   (01.23.07)
25. #23, You need to get yourself a pair of glasses, man
You say that a majority of the talkbacks are anti gentile. What nonsense! Had you bothered reading any of them you would clearly see that most infact condemn #4 for being racist. I wouldn't be surprised if you turned out to be #4, since both of you take such pride in smearing Jews.
Beth Landau ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (01.23.07)
26. #4
You don't even know if she eats pork-you just assume it. Shame on you.
Yael   (01.25.07)
27. #26 - What's the bloody big deal if she does?
I maintained that #4 is a fake from the very beginning. No Israeli has ever refused a transplant from a non Jewish donor.
