The Muslims have been killing each other for centuries. There has been no need for America to "sow discord between Shias and Sunnis". That is ridiculous. That battle goes back to the beginning of Islam. Muhammed taught that lying is permissible as long as it furthers the goal of Islam, so this is natural for Ahmadinejad to say these ridiculous things. Muhammad also taught that Muslims could not be resurrected till all Jews were annihilated. THAT is the source of hatred of Jews, not any ridiculous notion of "colonialism" perpetrated by "Zionists".

Dr. Ahmadinejad's comments do not mean Israel or the United States will be destroyed! He said the present regimes, not the countries. He is purposely misquoted and it is leading people to believe there will be an imminent attack on Israel or the US. This isn't helpful in the interest of peace. His intent is being misrepresented.

You may be right that Iran is only referring to "regimes" but in the US, Israel and other democratic states there is no distinction between the regime and the people. The regime is the will of the people, so by implication, "the people must be destroyed" is in fact what is being communicated. That is entirely different from the Baathists who only represented a small fraction of the population in Iraq.
