1. Is Olmert not a Disgrace also...
Jack ,   San Diego, USA   (01.24.07)
for that matter is the whole ruling party of Israel not a disgrace?
2. Forget the Trial, Just Hang Him Now!!!
bmoskowitz ,   chasmonaim, Israel   (01.24.07)
I guess the author never heard of the difference between indictment and conviction. And of course politics had nothing to do with it. Notice that everything only started happening after He came out against the disingagement???? Makes one wonder
3. Comment
Naomi   (01.24.07)
But of course excuses can always be made for the disgrace of the articles that use, to remain polite, inappropriate language.
4. Media loves Sela more than Katsav
(01.24.07)
When it comes to Sela who is proven guilty of his crimes the media and the left go insane how the police took photos of themselves with Sela. Human rights were screamed that the police are the brutes not Sela. But when it comes to Katsav where it hasnt even been proven that his guilty, the media and the left want to butcher him. They forget who is truly raping this country day and day out, Olmert/Peretz/Peres who have real power but allow missles to be shot, stones to be thrown, a knifes to be stabbed.
5. First Olmeret/Peretz/Peres/Livni must go
David ,   Tel Aviv   (01.24.07)
These four are really evel individuals. Their underboss Mazuz must also be removed. Until we get rid of these corrupt individuals nothing will change. The real disgrace is the Kadima hunta.
6. Sima Kadmon, you are right and maybe little confused
Uzi ,   Haifa   (01.24.07)
There seem to be emphatically valid 'public' or political reasons for immediate resignation, rather than legal or 'criminal' ones. Knesset members who collectively have the power to impeach the President and are reluctant to do so, may well be failing in fulfilling their 'public' or political duty.
7. Not been charged
Steve ,   USA   (01.25.07)
B"H "The stance, opinion and the decision of a man charged with rape is irrelevant." There is no formal indictment filed and this is misinformation that he has been charged.
8. Kadom is right!
shimon ,   beersheva israel   (01.25.07)
Very well for a well written article. Katzav should have been impeached and should be in prison. The present situation makes me feel ashamed of being a Jew. I hope things will change soon.
9. Katsav the non-criminal?
RedStarYeast ,   USA   (01.27.07)
The position of President of Israel is purely representational. He is to be above politics. He is a figurehead, an image of the nation's best and highest, a grand old man. Ideally, he is not simply worthy and dignified: he is bright, lively, engaging, Israel's worldwide salesman. Katsav does not have, and never has had, any of these qualities. He is President by virtue of his own long, grim climb up the ranks of the party heirarchy culminated by an astonishing political accident. He was a hack politician and is a hack President. True, he is legally innocent of charges of rape until proven guilty in a court of law. True, he may be acquitted. Israelis will then be able to proudly say (as we said of Richard Nixon, as we now say of George W. Bush): "This our President, who is not a criminal."
