1. Charges have not been filed making him innocent
B"H
Proper grammar is he is innocent. Charges have not been filed or proven. The article is speculation.
If this trial by press, the man is innocent. None of the charges have been substantiated by the press.

2. comment to 1:
Do you really think it is appropriate for the president to fight his innocence while in office? Practically, he's immune while in office the system cannot indict him while presiding. Would you please explain how could Katzav prove his innocence?
Wouldn’t you agree that that the only way to prove his innocence is in court and thus need to resign? How do you suggest resolving this conflict?

4. Innocent until proven guilty
Innocent until proven guilty. The nerveof this all Olmert is telling katsav to resign, that is a joke olmert should give the example and resign first. Katsav is a decent man and should be given a chance to defend himself without loosing the presidency.

5. # 3 - stupidity
To include journalist Barnea in the
list of corruption is mere stupidity .

6. No " Emile Zola" for Katzav
Katzav will have to fight for himself
to justify his case .
He's far from being like Dreyfus ....
Even his two top-ranked attorneys
seem to doubt his innocence.

7. 'The President Katsay Affair'
There are two things that irritate me: firstly, the media comments simply because they print things that are merely assumptions and secondly: the President's nervous comments, like "I'm Dreyfuß", instedad of simply stating, I'm not guilty and the courts will confirm this later. I think he does not know who Captain (later Lt.-Colonel) Alfred Dreyfuß really was.

8. Re #2. Resolution in place already
B"H
Katsav has requested to absent himself, and the Kenesset has the option to impeach if there are charges that warrant impeachment. As of yet, no charge has been filed.
He is not "in office" because he offered to absent himself and lift his immunity to the Kenesset. Then the speaker takes over his residence only while unresolved accusations stand. But at the same time, one cannot have spurious charges hurled at a public official without proof leading to firing him. That is not an acceptable way to remove a public official.
There is a process in place. After the charge is filed, he resigns is what he stated. That is because the Kenesset has no charge to impeach him on yet, and he does not want to face impeachment proceedings if a charge is filed. He basically no-contests the presidency once a charge is filed, but wants his day in court and in the press to make sure the charges are accurate.
The charges relate to his role as President only after being filed.
There is not substantiated evidence that I have to suggest he is guilty of the crime he is publically accused of and no basis to impeach him even as far as what I have seen documented in the press.

9. Re #2: Kenesset hired President, not PM
B"H
The Kenesset hired this President. Not one charge has come forth from the Kenesset.
P.S. This response got misfiled under a different article, than "Not the modern Dreyfus", where it does not make sense. I am just resubmitting it so it makes sense since it is a response to the #2 entry in the "Not the modern Drefus" article.

11. The Knesset's Failure
If Mr. (He is not my President) Katzav would be an ordinary citizen, he would be in jail. The fact that he unfortunately was the citizen number one should have only make it more demanding on him. A pity that the Knesset didn't manage to stand up to the shameful situation and immediately discharged him, whatever the problems of proceedure and method. Katzav photographs should be taken immediately away from any public places.

12. Bad, but better than Bush
Katsav is certainly taking a lot more abuse than your average accused rapist. But then, he's not your average accused rapist! What this abuse demonstrates is that this President of Israel was neither widely loved nor respected. Why not? Because he was an Iranian? Perhaps. Or because he was simply a hack politician who grimly climbed his way up the institutional ladder, rung after rung? Who was elected President as if by accident? Can anyone recite the chronicle of this careerist's great (or even small) achivements on behalf of the Israeli people? Well, I should talk! We Americans have our Bush, and he puts any petty rapist to shame. So maybe you should count your blessings.
