31. Lies - No factual material in article
jeff ,   tel aviv   (01.25.07)
No one was quoted in this article except for Arabs. The village is not named. The IDF spokespeople were not named. The alleged perpetrators are not named. How do they know it was settler? From where? Where is this cometary? Where are the photos? Who were the arresting officers? What time of day were they caught? Sorry, but all this is made up lies.
32. #21 why defeding settlers, are they secularists ?,
observer   (01.25.07)
are they living in jewish land, like you ?
33. The settler sickness
Rustum ,   London, UK   (01.25.07)
This sickness and festering hatred has been going on for years. When I had an apartment in East Jerusalem and used to wander the streets after the shops had closed, it was a veritable education to read the slogans painted in Hebrew on the shutters and walls. Mavvet la'aravim was pretty widespread as well as many other slogans comparing the Prophet to various animals and suggesting what should be done to Moslems. Obviously the settler community in Israel (including East Jerusalem) has no historical perspective, it has no moral foundation, it has only a selective and supremacist version of reality in which, as that notorious rabbi said, the fingernail of one Jew is worth the lives of one million Arabs. Now we read about the desescration of gravestones - just about the lowest level that anyone can sink to. It is no more than sheer depravity, and yes, a sign of the moral vacuousness of the whole settler community. As Hi-Fi in #10 mentioned, the state has been desecrating mosques and churches for the last 60 years - viz the Bosnian mosque in Caesaria which is now expropriated, deconsecrated malgré-soi and an alcohol-serving restaurant. The list of horrors in almost endless. However, the lastest incident of grave desecration is a very strong indictment of Israeli society and we all look forward to reading the condemnations issued by the religious apparatus of the state. Personally, pessimistic as I am, the short-sightedness of the religious leaders means that they probably do not even consider the desecration of non-Jewish graves to be an immoral act.

"Given that they are trying to kill us, grafitti is nothing" Well - it has been a long time since I read that dead people in graveyards were trying to kill people. Perhaps you should think slightly longer before posting immoral and moronic comments. Or perhaps you were too busy rushing out to buy spray paint.
35. G-d dont need land, it is the greedy man
bentham ,   singapore   (01.25.07)
who fight for land, and at the expense of the poor and defendess.Be aware of the sufferings caused by exploitation, injustice, theft and oppression. Jews are called to undertake the percept to cultivate loving kindness for the well being of humanity and the animal kingdom.Jews like all others are also called to practice honesty and generosity by sharing wealth, time, energy, empathy. encouragement and other resources, especially the gift of truth.Jews are not to posses or steal anything that in the macro or in the micro sense .That includes the desecration of the Palestinians cemetry.Jews are called to respect the feelings, the heart and minds of others. THat includes everything that belongs to others. When those cemetry was desecrated, jews desecrate their very own right to complain for the many desecrations, the jews suffered through out the ages. Please have self-respect, respect for others, respect the property of others and the public and please do not stand idol seeing people profiting from suffering of any living being.Jews dont forget you are a human so be human enough!Do Not bring DISHONOR to OUR FATHERS !

37. This is an Abomination!
Esther ,   Ofarim, Israel   (01.25.07)
Defiling graves, how low have our people sunk? This is sick, sick, senseless hatred. The dead are in the hands of a higher judge. Leave graves alone.
38. #24 and #20 Meira
jo moor   (01.25.07)
Meira you are quite right. The Vatican and other's silence is deafening. So what is new? However, Israeli authorities must clamp down extremely hard on these settlers (Israeli citizens?? if that is representative of Israel then Israel is sliding into the morass of intolerance and bigottry). Make an example of these hooligans and maitain the moral high ground. Do not descend to the rotten level of fatah and hamas

jo moor   (01.25.07)
Ag shame! Civilised humans should and are treated civily. Sub-human behaviour (whatever its origin) should be treated accordingly. It is healthy to be self critical - do you use a mirror when you brush your hair...... do have hair?!
40. #30 sage of Southpark
Rustum ,   London, UK   (01.25.07)
In your cartoon-world, you ask "where is the video"? Well it's obvious. Those grave desecrators could not video themselves because it was shabbat. Anyone knows that while it is permissible to desecrete Moslem graves on the day of rest, it is not allowed to hold or use a video camera - hence the settlers could not video themselves.
41. #26
jo moor   (01.25.07)
Civil society respects the dead. Sub-human behaviour gets what it deserves.
42. YNET forgot some details
Yosef ,   Tel Aviv   (01.25.07)
Apparently it is true that some grafitti was sprayed on Moslim gravestones. It is apparently false that gravestones were broken, or anything else happened. What caused the Jews (not "settlers") to spray grafitti was that the Arabs had already desecrated Jewish graves in that cemetery. In response, Olmert wants to collectively punish all Jews and forbid Jewish prayer at Joseph's tomb. Will all the "talkbackers" now condemn that Arabs as vigorously as they condemned the Jews for desecrating graves? Will anyone, including Olmert and the "talkbackers" suggest collective punishment of Arabs?
43. Where are quotes from the settlers? Where is factual proof?
LEE ,   NY, USA   (01.25.07)
This article does not allege that the settlers did this act, it states it as pure fact. No investigation has been carried out that concludes such a thing. No quote has been printed regarding the settlers stance or defense to such heavy allegations. The only "source" this article quotes is an unnamed source from Central Command. If 500 settlers were responsible and in the midst of such a destructive act surely there would be some picture, video, or substantive evidence, especially under the auspices of the IDF. Look at the how the media celebrated when a woman in Hebron was aggressive towards her neighbor. Surely, if they managed to advertise that incident with such enthusiasm, they would have some more meat to this allegation then anything I read here. This is a clear smear campaign, preparing the public for more criminal expulsions. This country is getting used to the idea of guilty before proven innocent. What a shame!
44. #40 Rustum, retard of London
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (01.25.07)
How come the IDF didn't make video the vandalism, dumbass, if the Arabs claim they were watching the whole time? The IDF were in collusiion with the naughty Jewboys? Or maybe the Arabs and their "Peace Now" friends staged the whole thing?
45. #29 "Christian" from Bethlehem

Bethlehem Christians fear Muslim neighbors: "conditions of Christians in Bethlehem and its surroundings had deteriorated ever since the area was handed over to the PA in 1995." http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?c=JPArticle&cid=1167467807655&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull

47. "according to the palestinians"
Arie ,   Afula   (01.25.07)
Ynet, like peretz and olmert. take the pali terrorist word as if it were gospel (pardon the Christian analogy). We are at a crossroads - us against them, and like during the Shoah, some of those allegedly with us are actually seeking our destruction!
48. #44
Rustum ,   London, UK   (01.25.07)
The David Irving of Southpark is obviously suffering from increased levels of paranoia and revisionist delusions. Let's have a little fanatasy about Southpark - nice white trailer park town, or should I say, white trash trailer park where people live on a diet of daytime tv, the National Enquirer and perhaps two minutes of Fox News a day. That could be the only explanation for the total delusion which dribbles forth like so much effluence on a daily basis from the vicar of Southpark. You obviously have no idea just how bigotted and nonsensical your comments are. Where's your ideological commitment? Go on - buy a can of spray paint and go join your bovver boy friends and do some really intellectual work like desecrating graves. It's really on your level, ya habibi.
49. Shame!
Jasmin ,   Haifa   (01.25.07)
Thank you so much (settler) fanatics! As if life isn't hard enough, you had to play right into the hands of the antisemites!
50. What's your point, Dacon9 (#15)?

51. To Dacon9, #16
Jasmin ,   Haifa   (01.25.07)
Oh, so then this kind of behavior is OK as far as you're concerned???
52. To #17
Jasmin ,   Haifa   (01.25.07)
Of course not, but neither do all those Arab atrocities make it OK for Jews to act like pigs (no insult to the porcine intended).
53. Kyle – the Queen of ignorant

When have you ever written a positive thing about anything? You steel energy from people, and yet you no one seems to remember your crap

Sure Kyle sure . here is a video .... here is 4 http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/israel/ I remember you were one of those that deny the Kahanists murdered Rabin .... do you also deny they threatened Sharon's life too ? 55. Graves
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (01.25.07)
When I was a very small child - maybe 4 years old- I remember going to the cemetery with my mother to put flowers on the grave of my favorite Oma for All Saints Day, in and of itself a juxtaposition. The reason this particular trip stands out is my being scared to death of the way my mother reacted, when we got there and all the tombstones had been turned over, the shrubs had been ripped out and there was red writing everywhere. This had been my Oma's "little garden," somebody had destroyed it, and there was no longer a nice place for the stones I had brought and chosen so carefully. I wouldn't have understood or cared, at all, that it had to do with this Oma's having been Jewish. To me, she had simply been my Oma and to my mom, she had been her husband's mother. All I remember is my mom's agony and rage, my fear of that rage and feeling some creeping terror of this unknown force who had done this. Despite the fact that my late husband, a US Marine and Korean vet, had earned a free grave from the US government, this episode made such an impression, there was no way I would have buried him in any cemetery. His ashes-all the local ordinances notwithstanding- rest behind my house in a place disguised as a "little garden" that I dare anyone to try and tear up. Odd as it may seem, I, still, add little stones, although he was Christian. Jew or Gentile, Muslim, Christian or whatever, the dead no longer can hurt anybody, and no living being deserves to be terrorized with the desecration of the graves of their loved ones.
56. Condemning these acts
Jonathan ,   CA, USA   (01.25.07)
All decent people should condemn desecration of gravesites. As Jews, we understand the pain such actions cause.
57. The moral high ground
Arthur ,   Miami Beach, FL, USA   (01.25.07)
Gold Meier said, "we can forgive you for killing our sons, but never for making us kill yours." In other words, we are supposed to set the moral high ground, despite what is done to us. This is NOT moral high ground!
58. m.hartley thanks for sharing your story.
avraham ,   jerusalem   (01.25.07)
you are the star of ynet. dont stop writing.if you write a book i will buy it first.

You are absolutely right. She makes up for her unimpressive knowledge of the Middle East with an overcompensated big mouth in Colorado USA
60. Sad mentality
Rob ,   London   (01.25.07)
But it must have been the evil, wicked, subhuman settlers. Of course it was! The'yre obviously the cause of all our problems. They're worse than terrorists, because... they're settlers! Don't dare to even question if this report is really factual or baseless. In fact if you do then you're evil and wicked as well and a settler. Give me a break!
