1. WHERE AER THE PERSONAL SDEROT STORIES?!?!?!
(01.28.07)
Stories such as the activities of some Jews in Mea Sharim is not important nor is the nonkosher porn video nor is the refusnik stories. Why arent personal stories on Sderot, Ashkelon and the citizens of Israel featured daily on ynet?!?!? When one arab is screamed you the media have a frenzy, but whenever there is a stoning by arabs on buses or a shooting or vandalism takes place you dont even cover the stories. This should be our concern, our own citizens. Where are the daily interviews, comments, video, from the citizens of Sderot and the Negev and Ashkelon?!??! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. Halutz's testimony
Brod ,   USA   (01.28.07)
Halutz makes one good point pertaining to the problem in commanding the war. He was constrained by the restraint of his political superiors. Hence, his hand was tide. The mistake lies on the political leaders who try to play general by restraining the Generals from doing their work effectively within the quickest time. In war, there is no such thing as restraint. To win effectively and decisively, the enemy must be subdued with overwhelming force. The Benchmark is the Six Day War of 1967. Israel defeated the entire surrounding enemy states within six days because the Generals executed their war plan with overwhelming force. And there was no political interference in their work, that is, the political leaders did not make the mistake of playing general over the Generals.
3. It's Condis Fault
Dave Levy ,   Burbank. USA   (01.28.07)
From the very get go, the Israeli politicians and army understand the parameters, which were dictated by the UN, EU, Condi Rice and Georget Bush. That said, Israel needed a quick victory, lets say within 3 days to 1 week to accomplish it's ends. The airforce was the main strike force, to limit casualties. However, when the army was needed, time became relevant. Israel's mistake: kowtowing to Condi and the UN, and not combining army and airforce, using bunker busters. Now we learn that Bush is critical of the use of cluster bombs, as if we (US) are angels in Iraq or Afghanistan. I guess Israel cannot win to lose.
4. More News About Jews Would Be Welcome
Dave Levy ,   Burbank. USA   (01.28.07)
To: mmmmmmmmm How come papers in Israel like Haaretz sell so many editions, considering their entire reporting seems to promote sympathy for the Arabs-Muslim, both within Israel and the territories? An occasional mention of Arab problems is okay for education purposes. But who are these papers for? We see here in California articles by the dozens in local (large circulation) papers about how Israel abuses the Arabs and made cluster bomb victims of innocent people in Lebanon.
5. #3 - Even with political restrictions, Halutz made mistakes
NL ,   Israel   (01.28.07)
Halutz had NO real military plan other than bombardment from the air. This guy was a great airforce chief but had no concept of ground battle and, hence, no 'big picture' concept. Instead of trying to broaden his horizons, he just stuck to the old all-aerial otulook espoused by air force generals. The stop-start nature of the war, due to the wishy-washiness of the politicians, definitely negatively impacted the war. But, the fact that Halutz had no concrete war plan was also a big help. Halutz played AT LEAST as big a role as Condi
6. Politicians in their efforts
Joe ,   USA   (01.28.07)
to minimize casualties , have restrained the IDF from using proper and over whelming force to achive a decisive vivctory, and thus eliminate a future potential enemy strike.
7. ISRAEL IS IN TROUBLE PEOPLE, READ MY OPINION
Yehuda Miller ,   Jerusalem   (01.29.07)
Halutz said " I was wrong to not call up the reservists on time" weely now? That is the same mistake that Golda Meir made back then, and in his 40 years of Air force service Halutz learned what exactly? Call up is the most obvious and talked about issue in quick response and defensive planning. Halutz did not learn from past wars and learned nothing from his 40 year army service but that is ok for...Ariel Sharon appointed Halutz as his yes man and never intended for him to defend Israel be it Israel was forced to go to war, Sharon had it in mind to do that job be it the coccaision arrose. Bogi Yalon was ousted by Sharon for his honesty about what hell awaits Israel and did not shut up about it like Sharon wanted him to do, Bogi Yalon also refused to be a yes man and endanger Israel for political gain so Halutz replaced him as Sharon's yes man. Why is Halutz worried about calling up reservists anyhow afterall their was no drinking water nore food for the combat soldiers, 1967 weapons were distributed to combat soldiers in their defence of Israel, Wounded combat soldiers were not extracted, you name it all that could go wrong went wrong, Olmert enjoyed the attention the conflict was receiving for it took the heat off his illegal and criminal affairs that he was supposed to be investigated for hmm wonder what ever happened to the pending investigations. Halutz was busy managing stocks that he invested in the stock market rather than commanding the Army while at war hmm being in such a poisition as Chief of Staff of the Army he had a great idea what to sell and buy and maybe even write that would affect market activity for those of you who understand stock market activity. Derelecton of duty at time of war is an offence in an army or am i wrong here, Olmert said" what does it matter if the kidnapped soldiers stayed in enemy hands a few days more or less" All this was reported and recorded by the press by the way. I am willing to stand corrected and invite anyone who has better facts to correct me be it i quoted the press incorrectly. Please examine the facts and not the missleading information, I invite a YNET reporter to do an indepth report and what is really going on in Israel, i also invite the editor to allow such a report be printed, i also invite the YNET readers to demand and indepth report on what is really going on in Israel, otherwise Blogs will provide the podium. Have a great day!
8. A question
Libneniyyeh ,   Lebanon   (01.29.07)
all those people that have died in the wars on Lebanon and against Palestinians, what has their death achieved? Why is it that your enemies are only getting stronger? Is more blood shed the answer? Joe, you say "to minimize caualties" the IDF was restrained from using more force? Are the thousands of Lebanese civilians killed (and the number is growing with nasty remnants so kindly left behind) a minimizing of casualties? What is the solution do you think? In a few months peace treaties will be written up and those "leaders" who were hating each other will be dining at the same tables. What will remain will be the hatred, fear, and enmity between people.
9. Preening cockeral
zznhl   (01.29.07)
How many Young boys lives have been lost because of the ego of a preening chicken general? Not just this grinning clown and not just this war. Its about time we learnt that learning from mistakes is too expensive. G-d knows we have enough brains in Israel to plan - the problem is an old one, tho' out of context this qoute is all to relevant "....A stiff necked people...." Enough allready... GROW UP!
10. Answer to Libneniyyeh
zznhl   (01.29.07)
The answer, my friend, is that we are still here! We will always be here. when this is realised, the death and destruction will finish. Not one Egyptian or one Jordanian has Died as a result of direct war with Israel since they were sensible enough to realise this. What about you guys?
11. halutz testifies
sas ,   israel   (01.29.07)
I honestly think that Mr. Mofaz and Mr. Barak should be the ones paying the bills for what happened in Lebanon. They were there, IN POWER, saw what was taking place and they did NOTHING.
12. To #7: So I read your opinion - So what's new?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (01.29.07)
The question is when is Mr. Israeli going to wake up and put a stop to the corruption, the mismanagement, the cover-ups and the rest of the total mess this country is in? Our President has been accused of rape and other acts. He is entitled to a fair trial and his day in count but does not have the decency to resign and continues to be the source of ridicule all over the world. He is alleged to have raped a number of women but what about the politicians who "rape" this country every day? The "Peres Law" has now become the focal point of the Knesset and allegations are made about manipulations. However, why should the lection of the President of the State of Israel be by secret ballot? The reason is that, as usual, the MK's are covering their asses and burning the candle at both ends. It is enough already. This country belongs to the Israeli People and not to 120 self seeking politicians who regard it as their own personal toy. The worst is that our TV Media, the strongest force in the land, is made up of a bunch of egotistical journalists who yell one another about the evils we live with. However, when last did you see a politician of Prime Time TV News being called to task? Yes, the TV networks do this on a Shabbat when most people are touring around, praying or sleeping! Its time that our TV people told the politicians to get their butts over to the studio and to start answering some very good and well thought our questions. I would suggest that our “journalists” watch CNN, Sky News and BBC World’s Hard Talk and learn how to interview the reluctant representatives of the Israeli people! The TV Networks should also encourage viewers to express their opinions by posting e-mail address on their programs as is done on other Channls who have arrived in the 21st Century. This would save them a lot of money which is wasted on inconclusive polls that no one really believes in.
