1. Peres for president
Gil ,   UK   (01.31.07)
Its the natural choice, internationally... as that is the role of the president an eloquent and diplomatic man like shimon should have the role. Especially in light of the recent scandal around the office... Israel needs Peres as president. I know that the right wingers will feel a knot in their stomach about this opinion, but remember the role is ceremonial and therefore will not make an impact on the domestic political process... it will only open doors to have such an eloquent individual representing Israel. VOTE PERES!!
2. Shimon Peres
elozor ,   Manchester, UK   (01.31.07)
I have heard that when he reneged on a promise made many years ago to the then Gerer Rebber, Simcha Bunem Alter, the Rebbe declared that he would never be elected to high office again.
3. Of course!
H black ,   Denmark   (01.31.07)
I think most -- foreign -- friends of Israel will agree that Peres is the best choice. Unfortunately, most Israelis probably won't agree. ... But then again, se what a mess they've gotten themselves into.
4. I want Peres for President
Esther ,   Ofarim, Israel   (01.31.07)
of his condominum association. Other than that, it's time for him to retire. He does not speak for me or a large percentage of Israelis. I don't trust him and his political ideas/views have caused this country enough harm.
5. Mr. ......President.....his last dream.
Nora ,   Tel Aviv   (01.31.07)
Shimon Peres, the "tunnel digger" of Israel`s political history ,may finally get ,finally his place in the moon. He knows that he is unwelcome in the hearts of Israeli citizens but nevertheless, his ego clings to the last high place in Israel, the Presidency of the State of Israel.
6. #1 THE PRESIDENT HAS THE POWER TO PARDON
(01.31.07)
And IF Peres becomes president you can be sure he will pardon terrorists
7. If he does get his place in the moon
Jono ,   Oz   (01.31.07)
Israel will be the first country with a superanuated space cadet for president.
8. #1-u obviously have no idea about
(01.31.07)
the way isr. chooses president-WE DONT VOTE FOR HIM-he is selected by the few idiots we put into kneset with our own votes-and they think they know whats best for us and bestow the president upon the general public. so yo call to vote for Peres is absurd-unfortunatly we have no say who it will be. PS: and i pray it will never be Peres:)
9. The most corrupt and sleezy politician
Emmy ,   Chicago   (01.31.07)
During the last 50 years this guy made a lot of money for his family. He is resposible for Oslo, intifadas with deaths of many Jews, Nobel with his best friend Arafat, etc.
10. well...
Gil ,   UK   (01.31.07)
in terms of diplomacy; he is the best choice. Whatever you say.
11. peres
sas ,   israel   (01.31.07)
HIS ONLY PLACE IS IN AN OLD AGE HOME. HE NEVER WON AN ELECTION. LET HIM DISAPPEAR IN PEACE.
12. Peres
Hilda ,   USA   (01.31.07)
I met Mr. Peres in Washington almost 40 years ago when he spoke at an Hadassah convention. I have never in my life met such an arogent stuffy so full of himself person. He will get the presidency because like Lola whatever Peres wants, Peres gets., He got rid of Rabin and got the Premine Minister position when Israel failed to elect him. And he's getting rid of Katziv in order to get the Presency. Someday the world will know the truth about this man who looks for his own benefit even if it hurts his country.
13. A pin in the...
Caroline ,   Israel   (01.31.07)
Kadima members think they found the best way to get rid of his presence. They tried to neutralize him by appointing him to the unnecessary Ministry of Negev and Galilee. I wonder when he last time visited the Negev – he is a frequent flier overseas, not over our desert. And the Negev cries of the total lack of planning and order. So the new idea is to put him into the President’s Quarters just to get rid of him. However they forget that using his long term acquaintance with our foreign friends and enemies, he will not stop making trouble. The best thing for all of us Israelis is to shut down that presidential institution which does not bring any good but expenses. Could someone recommend a good retirement home to Mr Peres? Even if the government pays the bills, it will be cheaper than maintaining him into the President’s chair.
14. Peres - obsession for honor
liliane   (01.31.07)
His eternal pursuit after top jobs and authority is absolutely pathetic. " I am a loser? " Yes you are , BIG TIME Mr. Peres. He'd better stick to his present job as developper of the Negev and Galil.
15. to #1 If you believe what you wrote,
jason white ,   afula,israel   (01.31.07)
then you are crazy. He is our worst enemy.Look at the oslo death agreement.Look how he worries about the palis. He should be called abu falestine. He did more for them than arafat. He has a ghetto mentality and just wants to please his eurabian masters. He should have been locked away years ago. Finally we do not vote for the president.Thatis done by the knesset. We do not need a president and a prime minister.
16. PERES FOR
(02.01.07)
CLEANING TOILETS IN THE KNESET! MAYBE, YES ...
17. #10, The man who had tricked Israel into the Oslo disaster
AK   (02.01.07)
can only be considered the best choice for the President by the Arabs and their supporters.
18. Who tricked who into Oslo?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (02.01.07)
You might remember that President Clinton was the "Man" who pushed Rabin and Peres into Oslo and did the same with Bibi Netanyahu at Wye Planatation. You might remember that President Carter pushed Begin into Camp David. President Nixon “told” Golda Meir that if Israel attacked first in 1973 she would be on her own and you might remember that the USA has forced ceasefires on Israel time and time again at the instigation of the Arabs who they appease to this day. It’s all very well to blame our politicians, albeit that they have a lot to answer for in various other areas, for military and diplomatic failures which are the result of the USA and UK Arab appeasement policies and meddling. We won’t discuss the French! Bush and Blair illustrate this extremely well. As far a Peres is concerned, well, they do like him abroad and at his age he probably won't get up to any of the shenanigans that our present incumbent is alleged to have done although he should think of a timely retirement.
19. #10 - no, he's the man who tricked Israel ino the Occupation
SD ,   London UK   (02.01.07)
Peres - Sponsored the Allon plan, whose bantustan boundaries almost exactly match Area B of Oslo and the route of the fence. Coincidental? - Precipitated the 6 day war, by leading the Syrians to believe they were about to be attacked and sending Eban to washington with the original dodgy dossier - Founded Ariel, largest settlement deep in the west bank - Designed the Oslo process as the ideal cover for a tripling of the settler population - Built the world's 5th largest nuclear arsenal - Gave Sharon the political cover he needed for the last 5 years If this guy is Israel's peacenik then no wonder you're at war.
20. Abolish the position.
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (02.01.07)
It is useless and expensive. Better spend the money on food and housing for poor Israelis.
