There are allways the genetic history of the Palestinian Jerusalemites which are clearly related directly to the Jewish Diaspora. From what I read, it seems that the project has no chance of harming the mosque (it is 50 meters away) and is actually intended to improve access. The builders are also following the law in trying to avoid destruction of archeological artifacts. Thus, the reaction seems to be a calculated one (a cynically calculated one) to start a violent confrontation. I think your idea of taking someone to view the dig is a reasonable suggestion. However, it seems that many of the Muslim authorities are invested in turning this into a confrontation rather than providing honest analysis. Would a neutral third party observer be acceptable? Would he/she be believed by either side? Don't know. But, in any case, I honestly do applaud your reasoned response and acknowledgement of Jews' interest and right in preserving their history in Jerusalem. And, as a Jew, I have to say that I am proud of the fact that the mosque has been preserved by successive Israeli governments and will continue to be.
