Hamas, Fatah sign unity government deal     Ali Waked
1. Together we will defeat Israel
Wain Kerr ,   London   (02.08.07)
2. Well, an agreement!
Anyone wanna bet on how long this last or how well it works? My guess is they'll be killing each other all too soon.
Joe ,   Ohio, USA   (02.08.07)
3. Yeah right! and the Blackhawks are winning the stanley Cup!
Just a bunch of crap! Will not last. Just let them kill each other!
Jellybean ,   Chicago   (02.08.07)
4. Israel out foxed
Israel put their trust in the international community for a peace deal. Israel forget about their God and religiously obeyed their new god George Bush and his Road Map. What did Israel get for their misplaced faith ? A down payment on hell in Israel and no peace in sight .
Marcel ,   Florida   (02.08.07)
5. Peace accords.
Who is anyone kidding here. Hamas and Fatah make peace share power, this peace accord is not worth the paper used to write it up. These parties will continue to fight it out. Well, come to a Civil war, even if they don't want to call it that.
jeremy ,   Hula Valley kibbutz   (02.08.07)
6. We will see.
I will bet you dollars to donuts the we will hear how this agreement and that agreement with Isreal underminds Hamas and we are back to squar one. What does "respect mean"? I know, nothing. More the same empty agreements. They will be back killing each other in a week but no longer than 30 days.
Jeff ,   NE, USA   (02.08.07)
7. Mr. Abbas, can you tell us what would end the conflict?
Time to have Abbas talk explicitly about ending the conflict. Anything less is valueless.
Mark   (02.08.07)
8. Seems like nothing was done to satisfy 'donor' nations.
" focus on the struggle of liberating our lands," said Mashaal'. "ready to "respect" the accords with Israel if they "did not contradict Palestinian interests". No to recognizing Israel.. None of the three things that are required in order to get the hand-outs. Very successful summit.
redmike ,   tel aviv - Israel   (02.08.07)
9. Even if Hamas and Fatah sign agreement
What about all those other splinter factions like Islamic Jihad, Al-Aqsa Martyrs, Sword of Islam, People's Front of Judea (a la Monty Python,) etc. Who is responsible for enforcing them to abide by a unity government? Well, I suppose it's better than mayhem and civil war, but I'll believe it when their actions support their words.
Unity Gov't? ,   Yeah right!   (02.08.07)
10. Don't trust them...ever!!!
DR ,   Florida, USA   (02.08.07)
11. The Hype

May he bless us and the rightous shall prevail.Hoping for a better day year decade century milleniu.I hope everybody is responsible with their hate. That should be a new commercial.Don't hate and drive. Now if we can get everybody to subscribe.I need to get a life.
Are You A Fight Fan ,   Israel   (02.08.07)
12. And the dumb Americans keep giving them weapons!!
Ghenis Khan ,   Mongolian Empire   (02.08.07)
13. #12...Americans are navie indeed!!!
They are good people with good hearts, but they are too naive to be involved in this conflict. Most Americans cannot even comprehend the level of hate in the region. They think Palestinians actually want peace and that they are willing to compormise for it. I don't even think that world is in their vocabulary. So they will stick to their "roadmap" and keep arming Fatah and the game will continue. Very sad!!!
DR ,   Florida, USA   (02.08.07)
14. What Does This Mean Now?
Does this mean Hamas and Fatah align with each other *against* Israel? Does this mean Fatah and Hamas agree to disarm and talk with Israel . . . *after* recognizing Israel, of course. Does this mean Fatah and Hamas begin raising money for more arms so they can renew their infighting? Or they rearm and combine with Hizbollah against Israel? It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
emanon ,   USA   (02.08.07)
15. confused
So let me see. We have a terror organization, Hamas, who has its troops inside the PA. Hamas' goal is to destroy Israel. But it will honor PA agreements as long as it can continue to seek to destroy Israel. And both sides can recieve huge amounts of money from both Saudi Arabia and the EU who have washed the matter into the rug so to speak. Can we call this terror-speak George Orwell?
alan ,   kodiak alaska   (02.08.07)
16. We're missing the point.
The only new development in this "fake" love in - is the promised $1 billion dollars to the Palestinian coffers from the Saudi's. The Saudi gameplan, in my view, is to bribe hamas into breaking their evolving relationship with Iran. The Saudi Royals are not thrilled about a potential Iranian/Shi'a clent state in Gaza, less than 100km from their borders. THAT's what this "agreement" is really all about.
Marc ,   USA   (02.09.07)
17. One Billion Dollars?
just one more method for the terrorists to secure funds to finance terrorists. The Palestinian people will get nothing more than more violence and death! Virgins beware
(02.09.07)
18. 'Respect'
Before anyone gets too enthusiastic about the statement that they will respect previous plo agreements - respect is not agreeing with them as worthy of implementation. Respect in this case just means I understand you believe you did right when you signed them, I respect you for following your own beliefs at the time and I respect that decision you made BUT you are wrong. Ergo respect is not agreement. I respect your right to differ from me, but that does not mean I will ever agree with you.
Dave ,   Australia   (02.09.07)
19. Olmert
where are the kidnapped soldiers idiot ???????????????????
(02.09.07)
20. ISRAEL TO BLAME!!!!!!!!!!
just wait. the arabs will stop killing eachother and get back to focusing the attention on stockpiling their guns and missles. withing a few weeks the terror will start again and when israel finally launces their large scale operation in gaza to destroy the terror infrastructure the whole world will blame Israel for wrecking the "truce" we must wake up and stop trying to force a peace deal with ou r sworn enemies. this is not the time for a peace deal. the phony peace the arabs are offering is only to buy time for our destruction
yosef ,   diaspora   (02.09.07)
21. Goodness
you all are soooooooo selfish, u people hate it when there is a peace....
(02.09.07)
22. #16 Marc, I think you nailed it.
They get their money. They buy more missles and TNT. They bribe some more parents to donate their kids to strap it on. They provoke Israel until Fatah won't give Hamas its way on something (or until the money runs out). Hamas assassinates the fatah people who disagreed with them. Fatah, of course, shoots some hamas people in retaliation and they're back at it again until somebody ponies up some more cash. Is that too far fetched?
(02.09.07)
23. Who really cares?
neither group recognizes Israel and both claim the destruction of the Jewish people. So they share these same interests and now they can be buddy buddy with one another? Big f---in deal. I guess it'll just make it easier for Israel to retaliate at everyone now that they will all be unified. Any offshoot of both fatass and hamass should produce retaliation against the whole populice. They elected these Jew-haters, now they face the consequences. Peace.
Micha   (02.09.07)
24. #21 Which Peace?
Wrong, we like peace. The peace with Egypt and Jordan is working. The Palestinians are the puppets of the dictator ju jour. They can't even stop killing themselves. How many days do you think this unity charade will last?
Lina ,   USA   (02.09.07)
25. There can never be unity or peace between or with Arabs
They are feuding and killing each other from time immemorial and never stop. At the same time they constantly negotiate and 'reach' agreements, kiss and swear eternal love for each other. (Conversely, they are almost honest when it comes to their attitude toward Jews as people and their human rights.) Just consider the history of Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Iraq since World War I.
Uzi ,   Haifa   (02.09.07)
26. Let these terrorists stay in their homeland of Saudi Arabia.
Arab occupiers don't belong in Israel.
Palestiniansareamyth ,   USA   (02.09.07)
27.  # 24 u r wrong
Im talking about tne peace with in the nation. (hamas and fatah)...don't care about israelis they don't know the meaning of peace. They are working with Egypt and jordan and whatever becasue they are afaid that they will defeat isralis.
