1. Okay everybody he is dead just like jesus and elvis
BUSH ,   USA   (02.12.07)

3. who is Mashiach
chaim ,   miami beach USA   (02.12.07)
What I am basically reading here is their philosophy is not much different then that of Ahmadinejad the offspring of Hamman (may his memory be ground up into dust and spread apart into nothingness by the wind) refer to when he told the United Nations in September: "I emphatically declare that today's world, more than ever before, longs for… the perfect righteous human being and real savior who has been promised to all peoples and who will establish justice, peace and brotherhood on the planet. Almighty God… make us among his followers and among those who strive for his return and his cause. " "Imam Mahdi was unseen from the eyes of common people and nobody could see him except special group of Shiites... After the martyrdom of his father he was appointed as the next Imam. Then he was hidden by God's command and he was just observable by the special deputies of his own," have we become so debased that we have the same religious beliefs as the Moslems and expect to be saved by ??????? because we are lucky to be a part of a certain sect I hope not, we will deserve redemption by our good deeds and actions towards mankind
4. So whats the point of this article ???
Norman   (02.12.07)
Will Ynet ever write positive news about the orthodox community???? Chabad is a great organization spread all over the world giving its best effort to educate our lost souls and returning them to Torah true Judaism. Both factions are doing a wonderfull Job. I hope the infighting that ynet is reporting is exagerated.
5. What does it all mean
Benjamin ,   Denver   (02.12.07)
As an outsider, it appears that Chabad is just like any other group. Bickering over politics and rights and beliefs. These are fallible people, and we shouldn't give them any more credence than that.
6. Ha ha ha!!! You couldn't make this stuff up!
Michael Steiner   (02.12.07)
This is the best part: "To judge according to human eyesight, the chair remained empty until the end of the conference." ROTFLMJAO!! That reasonably rational people, yea, JEWS (aren't we said to be more intelligent than the goyim?) can believe this type of tripe in the 21st century is beyond belief (no pun intended). These guys need professional help; there are some wonderful new treatments available that could help them greatly. Please G-d they avail themselves of some before they make even bigger fools of themselves. Tragicomic.
7. Messianist Chabbadniks are apostates- vomit them out
Jew ,   Israel   (02.12.07)
We shouldn't drink their wine, eat their shechita, or count them in a minyan, and G-d forbid, let our children have anything to do with them. THIS is the cause of all of their problems- their anti-Jewish ideas.
8. DAMAGE CONTROL
Levi Krol ,   Ramat Bet Shemesh   (02.12.07)
In Modiin Illit, Chabad was invited to leave by all the vad bais because of too much yechi and disruptions. It truely has gotten out of hand, and many messianic xtrians have used it to their advantage for attempted missionary work. THE ONLY SOLUTION is to bite our tongues on both sides of the issue and not discuss it. Not to sing around the bimah, making the non-yechi uncomfortable and not denying it either to offend the yechi people, but concentration on UNITY of mecharving lost Jews rather than in-fighting. This is an issue which can not be resolved with the physical eye and until that time, we must not rip the Chabad world ussunder. THE REBBE WOULD NOT HAVE ALLOWED IT, IF IT WAS CENTERED AROUND THE PREVIOUS REBBE. Please focus on our brothers, not something that can't be proven beyond all doubt until later.
9. Before the bashing begins...
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (02.12.07)
They are attempting a peaceful reconciliation, not excommunications, threats of eternal damnation, suicide bombings, riots, and everlasting jihad of annihilation. People should learn from this. Unfortunately, few will.
10. Before the bashing begins
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (02.12.07)
They are attempting to reconcile their disagreement by peaceful means. No rioting, no suicide bombing, no excommunications, no eternal damnation, no everlasting jihad of annihilation. People should learn from this and be inspired. Sadly, few will.
11. Interesting topic
Steve ,   USA   (02.12.07)
B"H The question of life and death of the Rebbe is an interesting one. It should harken back to the death of Moses. Moses died and yet no one knows precisely where he is buried. There is no confirmation of the death of Moses. But I understand that Moses valued something even more than his body, which is how his soul reflected on the Jewish people who continue to live. For those who say that the Rebbe is Mashiach, the question for me is whether it is the reflection of his soul on the Jewish people that is considered Mashiach or whether it is his bones. If his bones, why are they in New York still? And what precisely is the redemption that has happened for these particular people? These are fundamental questions in my mind to assess and clarify the dispute. Then again I am no Rabbi, but I ask as an observer of the report.
12. I dont know ...this is a total Chillul Hashem
Al ,   Montreal Canada   (02.12.07)
As a former graduate of the Lubavitcher Yeshiva when Rabbi Kramer Sr was at its helm and when children both religious and non religious were welcomed and valued in the yeshiva, I shudder to think was has happened to Lubavitch. The Rebbe Z'L was indeed a giant in the annals of Jewish history. His insight in the spiritual as well as the mundane was awe inspiring. However what we have here with this pathetic loathsome infighting amongst those who call him their own has reached the obscene. Its time cooler heads prevail and that this senseless infighting cease immediately. Is a gross Chillul Hashem

14. Invisible maschiah?
Marya ,   sacramento, USA   (02.12.07)
This is a disgrace- a terrible shame on Jews for these people to say this man was/is the maschiah. Oh, I see, he's "invisible"... where does it say in our sources that the maschiach will be invisible? This is a terrible test and those of Chabad who wear the cute little yellow pin indicating Sneerson is the maschiac are failing it and make it easier for them to be singled out for their idol worship and chilul hashem. Sickening, this sect is no different than christians.
15. Meshi-ach
Ely Greenhut ,   Tzfad Israel   (02.12.07)
Lubavitcher Chassidem have a very strong connection to their Rebbe-- May his sole rest in peace---So some Lubavithcer Chasidem strongly believe their Rebbe is Meshi-ach. We do not really know who Meshi-ach will be. For all I know the person reading this TALKBACK is a TZAADIK & could be the real MESHI-ACH.
16. Those who won't learn from history condemned to repeat it
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (02.12.07)
One needn't rely on experiences with false prophets among the nations. We can rely on our own. Shabbtai Tzvi is, of course, the best known in modern times. Jacob Frank was another. Maimonides himself (I think in his Letter to the Jews of Yemen) warns against giving credence to the false messiahs of the time, and he shows how damaging they can be. The sages advise, "If you are planting a tree and you hear the Messiah has come, finish planting the tree." When the time of redemption comes, you'll know it. Until then, go on with life. It would be truly tragic if the messianists in their fervor bring the whole movement into disrepute, and thereby undermine the good work done by Chabad .
17. RE #6: Who left Sharon's chair empty?
Steve ,   USA   (02.12.07)
B"H For those criticizing the leaving of a chair empty, what was that practice of leaving Sharon's chair empty? He is living, but in no condition to sit there. The criticism of leaving chairs empty cannot be one-sided here. I only leave the wine-cup full and open the door on the Passover seder. :)
18. to #4 You meaning snatching them from the I.,D.F.
jason white ,   afula,israel   (02.12.07)
How many chabadniks have been told not to serve in the Israeli army? How many have been sent to Brooklyn to study and not to defend Israel and to live here? Chabad is a curse on Judaism.
19. Thanks for the article - Excellent
Joseph ,   U.S.A   (02.12.07)
I am not religious and I am not anti-religious but thanks to the article Now I know that if I see a chabadnik with a yellow flag or pin I will start running, there is no difference between a MAMASH Chabad and a jew for Jesus Thanks Neta Sela
20. to #11
marty ,   USA   (02.12.07)
The Torah is quite clear that Moses died. Moses, according to Torah was the greatest prophet, not Mashiach. The Rebbe is dead. He may in fact have been a tzadic but lets not deify him or even equate him with Moses. The Torah states that there never was and never will be a prophet as great as Moses.
21. chabad is messed up
david ,   new haven usa   (02.12.07)
the 2 biggest challenges of orthodoxy today: 1. make the modern orthodox "frum" 2. make chabad jewish

There are plenty of Chabad soldiers in the IDF. I know several.
23. to # 14 Marya
Rabbi ,   CA   (02.13.07)
in answer to your question " where does it say in our sources that the maschiach will be invisible" In the gemara (sanhedrin 98 B) it is clear that moshiach can be from the living or not from the living, so regardless of saying that the rebbe is physicaly alive (which according to Halacha we have to judge with our OWN EYES...) Moshiach CAn be invisble..... the main thing is, may he come soon! we realy need him.

25. Teyku - let it rest!
Roscio ,   Rome, Italy   (02.13.07)
In the Talmud, whenever our Sages hit an impasse, they said "TEYKU". This means "let is stand", or "let it rest as it is". However, it is also an acronym for, "Leave this to be resolved by Elijah the Prophet when he returns". Both sides of ChaBaD do great service, great outreach and great scholarship, However, they have forgotten to practice the very Talmud they study. It is written in Tractate Shabbat, 63a, When two scholars are amiable with each other in their disputes of halacha, the Holy One heeds them and is gentle with them. Whereas, in Ta'anit, 8a, it says, Two scholars who reside in the same city but are intolerant of each other in matters of halachah provoke (Divine) anger and bring it upon themselves. (and eventually upon the whole community, I might add!) Both sides serve HaShem and the Jewish people. Their public wrangling brings only chillul HaShem and pain. Let them all agree to continue their great works, and keep their private beliefs about Moshiach just that .- PRIVATE. Let them emulate our great Sages and say TEYKU!!! B"H

J K ,   NYC, USA   (02.13.07)
I dont remember where in in the G'mara it says it, but there are 3 things someone must do in order to know without a doubt they are mashiach, and one of them is build the Beit Hamikdash. As great a man as Rav Scheneerson was (and he did a LOT of good), he obviously did not build the 3rd temple. Could he be Mashiach in the future? According to your source, yes. However, presently he isnt, so I dont see how 1/2 of Chabad thinks so. The Mashiach will get here when he gets here. Speedily we hope.
27. #! - over 500 eyewitnesses saw Jesus alive - the Rebe? None.

28. You are right Ely #15
Shiloh ,   Israel   (02.13.07)
29. to # 23
benjamin   (02.13.07)
the point of# 14 was that we have no way to identify anyone "invisible" to BE the maashiach. WE have no right no qualifications as such. When that was done a new religion merged and that is what you fellows are doing.
30. And what would the Rebbe say and do about this mess?
Yacov ,   Ashkelon   (02.13.07)
He certainly would not allow the current nonsense to continue. By the way, I believe he died but heard him call my name today. I looked around but could not see him. Is my spirituality lacking if I can hear his voice but not see his body? And don't tell me to go take a dose of Thorazine.
