1. Stop the provocations
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (02.15.07)
The Moslems are the ones making all the provocations. By stopping the renovation they will find MORE excuses to riiot and rampage. This stupid excuse of a "Chief Rabbi" should stop HIS provocations.
2. Who is ynetnews working for anyway
Sam Weinstein ,   USA   (02.15.07)

4. Truth vs "jewish law"
Shiloh ,   Israel   (02.15.07)
I don't know why this rabbi want's to have dialoge with the clerics. This only furher legitimizes their activities as they will believe what they do is truth. And use common sense and Truth when dealing with a group of people who do not act like civilized humans. Stop legitimizing them Olmert and Rabbonim.
5. Kyle
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.15.07)
How do you "dare" to say that Rabbi Amar should stop HIS provocations ? He is a religious man , a great Sage , not a leftist Jewish self hater . What is this ? A chief Rabbi issued provocations ? It's the upside down world . Have i , who received so many not nice names , to defend him ? Where are we going if u have to do it .
6. Palestinian liars: "You can't fool all ...
(02.15.07)
... of the people all of the time." The only construction ever done by the Israelis on the temple mount is justified and positive. Any "construction" ever done by the Palestinians on the mount has been DESTRUCTION of any and all remnants from the original temples that could be found in order to erase any proof of its existence.
7. Rabbi Ovadia Yosef should be the one to rule
Eli Yishai said that ,   work should continue   (02.15.07)
8. Israel -Jews are a provication to Islam
Marcel ,   Florida   (02.15.07)
The mugrabi walkway/dig is not on the Temple Mount. So what is the real provication ? Appeasers of Israel .there is a solution tp pleace the intloerant moslems. Why does Israel,Jews not just commit suicide enmasse ? This would solve 'the problem' and bring lasting peace.
9. Who PROVOCATED WHOM ?
bentham ,   singapore   (02.15.07)

AND the status quo has not changed even to date even while Jerusalem is now under the Israeli Parliament and a Jewish State an Nation. TELL ME WHO IS PROVOKING WHOM ? Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar ? Olmert? The Turks? The Arabs? The Evangelist? GIve Us a Break !
10. It takes two to tango
Avraham ,   Israel   (02.15.07)
As much as I agree that the Muslim claims here are ridiculous, I see an opportunity to stop the destruction of the Temple Mount by the Arabs. Quid pro quo
11. Well said
Abdullah ,   EuMe   (02.15.07)
hrh"g Shlomo Amar makes a valid point from a TRADITONAL Jewish perspective. It will be interesting to see what hrh"g Ovadia Yousef (shli"ta) rules on this matter. And how SHA"S responds.
12. Rabbi
Abdel ,   Nablus, Palestine   (02.15.07)
I think the rabbi has the right approach for dealing with this, very wise and courageous on his behalf, I hope our religious leaders will learn a lesson or two from him. A true man of religion regardless of what the religion is should preach kindness, tolerance, and understanding, and never provocations. My respects to him on his thoughts on this issue. Dialogue is the only way out of this conflict and it could, and should be done....

17. Rabbi Amar is not right
Steve ,   USA   (02.15.07)
Turkish Prime Minister says, Israel should respect sites holy to Muslims. Only the bridge is not on the Muslim's holy site. It's adjacent to the Western Wall, a Jewish holy site. Muslims would not have access to the Temple Mount had Moshe Dayan not given it over to the Islamic Waqf following the 1967 Six Day war of Arab aggression. Let us declare what this is really about. What this is about, is the fear that archeology, the Antiquities Authority will find more conclusive evidence that there is an ancient Jewish Temple beneath the site. That is what all the fuss is about. Muslims deny Jews had an ancient presence there, so they are rioting.
18. #1 and Chief Rabbi
Rustum ,   London, UK   (02.15.07)
I love it. Now that the Chief Rabbi is less extreme and suggests stopping the provocations, you are now going to undermine the Chief Rabbi's authority and opinion because it verges towards reconciliation and problem-solving. Next thing, the South Park rabbinate is going to issue a HErem against the Chief Rabbi, call him a self-hating Jew and a kapo. You really are something! - as a very popular TV comedy character in the UK says. If you and various other preachers of hate had any authority whatsoever (apart from the fact that your fingers are able to touch the keyboard) we would all be in the middle of a third world war with nuclear bombs raining everywhere. That would be the only thing that would bring you satisfaction. You and the other great sage who lives in Afula. Why don't you tell us what your credentials are for putting quotation marks around the term Chief Rabbi (i.e. "Chief Rabbi") as if he represents no one. I think that your credentials are simply those of bigotry, hatred, non-stop animosity, racial supremacy co-mingled with subconscious fascism - all mixed together to produce one babbling fountain of unmitigated and total specious filth. You should be proud of yourself.
19. Jews are forbidden from entering the Temple Mount
Daniel van Dalen ,   Jerusalem   (02.15.07)
According to all poskim, including even religious Zionists (including the Chief Rabbinate) and all streams of chareidim, Jews are totally FORBIDDEN from entering the Temple Mount.
20. #10 you're right on the money..
Abdullah ,   EuMe   (02.15.07)
Mutual supervision and mutual respect in matters concerning the Temple mount, is highly recommended and this present an unprecedented opportunity to set up such a system. However, the Jewish observers cannot be JEwish according to Jewish law? No?
21. pathetic ...
chris ,   canada   (02.15.07)
once again, the most ridiculously abusive and narrow-minded responses come from jews ... jews who are quick to label any criticism as anti-semitic, yet are even faster to provoke arabs, christians and even your own who speak out against zionist idiocies ... jews will never gain true international respect until they learn to pay it to others ... it has become a daily routine for me to count how many times the mitzvot are broken by the zionist cause ... you all need to take a long hard look in the mirror ... and, once again, my criticisms will not see publication because the jewish press has no interest in balance ... shalom
22. No Moshe , it's me
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.15.07)
As bizarre as it looks , it's me . You see , when a Man , even a Rabbi is right , why not say it . I'm not against religious people as a whole , i'm against the behaviour of some . And try to read and understand , i was always thinking that british people understand humor or sarcasm .
23. sam 2#
dav   (02.15.07)
that its ours is not the question. the real question is would you be saying thisthe same way if you were not sitting in the US...
24. Chris #21
Steve ,   USA   (02.15.07)
What mitvot are broken because we are repairing an unstable bridge leading from the Western Wall area to the Temple Mount? Do Palestinian Muslims own all of Jerusalem? The Temple Mount and now the Western Wall? They own it all? For goodness sake, what is the big deal?
25. The Occupation of Har Bayit
dovid ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.15.07)
The Occupation of Har Bayit, a true tragedy. Remove the Arabs from Har Bayit if they can't coexist with us. The arabs started the war and we won. Let’s removed them if they can't co-exist with us as a "Permanent Guest" in our country under our rules and laws.
26. The "Rabbi's" misguided intentions will
Allan ,   US   (02.15.07)
lead to more conflict not less. It is better he sticks to what he knows best, Torah, and stays out of what he knows least secular politics.
27. Hey Chris (21), we don't need your respect!
Forrest Gump ,   Bubbaland   (02.15.07)
You dislike us (Jews, Israelis, Zionists) well then why do you waste your time on this website. You should check websites about Finland, Italy or Newfound Land and post your talkbacks there. Unless of course your name is not Chris and you are just another self hating liberal Jew. Shalom my friend.
28. #26: Allan (You're right, he should stick to the Torah)
Monk   (02.15.07)
It seems to me, if the rabbi stuck to Torah, he would not have made this unfortunate ruling or statement. Torah says all of Israel (ancient land of Canaan) was given to the Jews; to the sons of Jacob. The entirety of Jerusalem belongs to the Jews. Even the Temple mount --- where Solomon built our Temple --- was given to the Jews according to Torah and the book of Kings. I think herein lies the problem. Rabbis do not rule according to Torah. Instead they make political judgments. In other words, this was a political judgment; not one based on Torah. This is not becoming of a great rabbi.
29. MONK 28, R' OVADIAH YOSEF SAID TO CONTINUE,, R' AMAR IS LOST
R' AMAR IS LOST INTO ,   THE CURRENT ABYSS   (02.15.07)
30. forrest, you're proving my point ...
chris ,   canada   (02.15.07)
you label me as not liking jews israelis or zionists ... this is not true; i would help anyone who needed it, be they jew, muslim, or even christian ... but i simply cannot agree with most of your political positions, based on my world experiences ... i have been to jerusalem, have visited the wailing wall, meandered into an orthodox neighbourhood and was stoned by men, women and children alike because i was not wanted there ... now, the stones were not thrown to hurt, but rather to make a point ... and to deny what isrelis are doing to palestinians is no better than what was done to jews by nazis simply makes you a liar ... and i do not 'waste' my time on this website; i am attempting to consider all points of view ... but it is also true that the worst examples i read here of narrow-mindedness and bigotry have jewish authors ... shalom and salaam
