I am an American and a Christian. I do not believe the Jews killed Jesus. We all had a hand in it. I find it disturbing to see the anti-Semitism in our world today. Someone has to do something or we'll end up in a BIG mess. I also think Jimmy Carter is a disgrace. He won't debate anyone on the issues he has raised in his book because he knows that he is lying and has nothing to support his argument. The author is contradicting himself totally. If anti-Semites need no reason, then the veracity or falsehood of Dr. Toaff's evidence is irrelevant to the question of anti-Semitism! Yet still highly relevant to the issue of academic freedom. All major religions have committed barbarian acts, Christian laws surely did not permit the Inquisition, for instance, so if some Jews should turn out to have committed heinious acts over five hundred years ago, then so what, join the human race! Or is the author saying the Jews are always blameless, that there is no such thing as a mad or criminal Jew at any time in history? Surely, that is as irrational a statement as anti-Semitism itself.

Try to debunk his theories, and you sound like good scholars. But say he "fuels antisemitism", and you sound like you care more about some unrealistic image of Jews as eternal victims than about the killing of saintly children.

Your ( and others ) central point - Are people being falsely accused of antisemitism in order to silence criticizism of Israel ? Each case must be evaluated independently. Generally speaking you can look at the writings or remarks ; 1) Do they try to delegitimize Israel. 2) Do they exagerate or distort facts about Israel with the intent to deceive or is it out of ignorance. 3) Do they hold Israel to a higher standard that other countries, put another way , do they ONLY reserve their criticizism for Israel while ignoring others who commit more heinous acts. Do people who are antisemtic hide their hate by falsely saying their thoughts are being censored by being called antisemetic ? Your two examples of the girl and Carter. 1) The girl, I have no information about and therefore cannot comment on, except to say if you are going use this sort of an example please provide the readers w/a link if possible, so we can see the story ourselves. 2) Carter has been cut to ribbons factually by nermerous crictics.
