You keep talking about "international law". Do Israel's enemies have, or for that matter had at any time since 1947 and before, any respect for international law? You cannot keep a set of rules if the people you are dealing with do not. Doesn't work.
32. #29, thank God for the informers indeed
papa jay   (02.21.07)
Thank God for these people, mind you no one likes them from either side. Israel left all it's informants in Gaza after the pullout, there was a whole village of them there and Israel refused to take them into Israel, they were left to die. The same happened to the SLA (South Lebanon Army )proxy army for the government of Israel during the Israeli military invasion of South Lebanon. after the pullout from south leb, they wanted to come to israel for fear of put on trial for treason against Lebanon. israel granted some of them entry including their General Lahad to the city of Ashkelon where residents there singed a petition saying these people are not welcome in their city. once a traitor always a traitor. if they betray their own people they will do the same to israel and anyone else that pays well. they are the lowest kind in any society. Thank God for them indeed.
33. How did the Ottoman empire end up with so much land
Micha   (02.21.07)
by the way, ever heard of the great wall of China? Know why it's so great? It's a big wall, it's a long wall, and it kept out the enemies. Still standing. As is China.
34. peace
Joe ,   Brooklyn, NY   (02.21.07)
In all honesty, this does show that if there were peace between Israel and Syria, that would go a long way toward stopping terror. Syria has approached Israel for peace, and Israel rejected those overtures.
35. THE ARABS CELEBRATE UNITY BY SENDING BOMBERS INTO ISRAEL
DAVID P ,   SANTA CRUZ, USA   (02.21.07)
I HOPE MEMBERS AT THE STATE DEPARTMENT ARE TAKING NOTES, IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE MEETING WITH CONDI RICE, THIS IS THE MESSAGE OF PEACE THE ARABS ARE RESPONDING WITH
36. To #28, the land you refer to as ocupied
Joe ,   USA   (02.21.07)
is actually a LIBERATED land, taken away from our people by force, and now we have gotten it back - the original owners to whom it belongs from ages.
37. #11 Jake
Lee ,   Israel   (02.21.07)
The West Bank IS Israeli Land, genius.
38. To #28 papa jay - Syria attacking Golan not = liberating...
Observer ,   USA   (02.21.07)
If Syria attacked Israel and lost, the Golan Heights would still be Israeli land. If Syria attacked and captured the Golan Heights, would they return it to Israel after the war? Of course not, so why are you trying to spin the reality. Nobody said anything about Damascus so I don't know why you are trying to throw in something ridiculous to make our logic sound as dumb as you... Israel was attacked by the agressive arab nations surrounding it. In defending itself, it gained territory. This is not occupation, but if that's the term people want to use and Israel keeps it, call it your mother's behind for all I care. It's liberated and free from arab control, I think that's a sweet deal:)
39. I'm sorry for my stupid posts!
papa jay   (02.21.07)
I've been under a lot of stress lately with cuts in welfare payments + my biyfreind recently left me........
40. # 36: Can the jews please inlighten us all
papa jay   (02.21.07)
LIBERATED you say? Perhaps the Jews can enlighten the rest of the world and tell us which lands are occupied that belong to Jewish rightful owners. My other question would be if Syria is occupied land, why doesn’t Israel with it’s mighty army do anything about it? “Liberating Syria” shouldn’t be much of a problem, although Israel will have 17.5 million Syrians that will need to be transferred, perhaps to Jordan? And please try to use an intelligent argument other then God gave me the land. because I just spoke to God, and he promised me New York!
41. # 38, where do you draw the line?
papa jay   (02.21.07)
Where do you draw the line. Occupied land is when the international body comes together and says this is occupied land. or do you only support the UN for aproving the creation of the state of israel but dismissing anything else it says? nobody said anything about Damascus, true, but just as easily the Israelis could have occupied that city after taking the Golan, it's a very short distance you know. So again if the Golan has been "liberated" by israel the same must apply to Damascus. Or is there a temple on the Golan too you guys need to dig up? Seems from Israeli supporters such as your self your Jewish state is doomed to internal conflict. Today you say the Golan was "liberated", tomorrow you might want to "liberate" something else after speaking to your God.
42. # 37 :The West Bank IS Israeli Land,
papa jay   (02.21.07)
israel is in denial! Even our dumb ass president wont transfer our Embassy to your eternal capital. you ever wonder about that? take a min and think about it, but dont hurt your self now you hear:)
43. #39, Let the real papa jay extend apologies to
papa jay   (02.21.07)
all who are offended. After all i am not worthy to criticize a great nation like israel. Who are we to criticize God's chosen people? We are nothing but inferior races/beasts and animals, cattle at best compared to the Jews!!! "OUR RACE IS THE MASTER RACE. WE ARE DIVINE GODS ON THIS PLANET. WE ARE AS DIFFERENT FROM THE INFERIOR RACES AS THEY ARE FROM INSECTS. IN FACT, COMPARED TO OUR RACE, OTHER RACES ARE BEASTS AND ANIMALS, CATTLE AT BEST. OTHER RACES ARE CONSIDERED AS HUMAN EXCREMENT. OUR DESTINY IS TO RULE OVER THE INFERIOR RACES. OUR EARTHLY KINGDOM WILL BE RULED BY OUR LEADER WITH A ROD OF IRON. THE MASSES WILL LICK OUR FEET, AND SERVE US AS OUR SLAVES." -Menachem Begin (Israeli Prime Minister, 1977-1983)
44. Papa Jay, go claim New York then!
Mike ,   Atlanta, USA   (02.21.07)
Remind us of which countries have their borders drawn from "rational" priinciples instead of war, divine inspiration, or colonial administration. Identify a few countries that don't fall into any of those categories and we can start a discussion.

46. A State of Palestine
David ,   Rhode Island   (02.21.07)
I don't know why Abbas is being considered to head the state of Palestine if he can't keep his people from firing rockets into Israel or attempting suicide killings.
47. GOOD JOB SHIN BET! Good Dana OL'MERD took a day off !

48. #32 Get your facts straight
Lina ,   USA   (02.21.07)
Israel took many former SLA soldiers into Israel with their families and saved their lives. The security fence is necessary to protect Israeli lives. That obviously is not important to you. It would be important to you if you lived in Israel. And last, the Syrian Army sat on the Golan Heights and regularly bombed the residents of Israel who lived below until 1967. The Syrians provoked the war and lost the Golan. You need to do your homework papa.
49. Well, according to papa jay...
David ,   Rhode Island   (02.21.07)
According to him, when countries keep attacking you, and you keep winning, you're supposed to keep giving the land back, until the people who keep attacking you win, so that they can be the occupiers. That makes sense, right?
50. there is no occupation
Shir ,   Helsinki, Finland   (02.21.07)
First off, jews have lived in those "occupied areas" for thousands of years. Arabs started flowing in the late nineteenth century (though there were smaller populations of arabs and jews before in the area) along with European Jewish and Christian colonialists, because they brought money and wealth to the country. Israel did NOT occupy these territories. It was Jordan, who illegally occupied these territories from 1948-67after the first arab-israeli war. In the Six-Day war, in 1967Arab armies massed on Israeli borders, intending to destroy Israel. This was a defence-war and Israel overcame it´s enemies and liberated these territories from the occupation of Jordan. This war was a defensive war, and therefore these territories were not taken as an act of aggression, but as an act of defence. Only those territories, which are taken as an act of aggression are considered occupied under international law. Does this make it clear. Now get lost.
51. OHHH, you got them. Who where they????????

53. Wall and checkpoints failing us...
Ricky Benstein ,   Palo Alto, USA   (02.21.07)
I guess the wall and all the checkpoints are starting to fail us already. So everything we are putting the Palestinians through is just increasing the hate. Maybe Hamas' cease fire was the true cause for the decline in suicide bombers...
54. #7, 11
Jul   (02.21.07)
To your info: the wall was built in a way that maximises protection. Under such criteria the Green line became a secondary issue . Anyway, Sharon declared on different occasions that he does not consider the wall as a border. And the most important fact is that the wall WORKS!!
55. #53 Checkpoints failing...but they've had time to practice
Sheri ,   rockville maryland   (02.21.07)
What you said struck me to, but here's some counter thoughts. It's not a true comparision scientifically speaking to compare # bombings at the time of building the fence, to # now... They've had time to build up, practice, get stronger at figuring out how to get around the fence & checkpoints, etc. They gotten notably better at the propoganda war in the last few years too. The ceasefire may have been a coverup for difficulities they were having in committing the acts when the fence went up, to save face for being able to do less.
56. #11 - under international law, yes Israel could annex Damacu
sheri ,   rockville maryland   (02.21.07)
If Syria attacked & Israel prevailed to Damacus, the terroritory would be called "disputed" in international law, and Israel would have strong rights under the law to retain it permanently. It can be researched in an international law library, or check with an expert in international law if you want to do less work.
57. They've got us saying wall -- it's 96% fence
sheri ,   rockville maryland   (02.21.07)
And I'm a keen enough observer of the obvious to call a fence, ...a fence :). The power of propoganda warfare is powerful indeed. Soon they have us all calling the EU, an Hamas disputed territory.
58. I'll "inlighten" you papa jay
Hezbullahsucks   (02.21.07)
The muslims are now claiming Spain as there land. Tell me, will you be defending the Spaniards as much as you defend the Palestinians? Probably not!
59. papa jay # 43
Hezbullahsucks   (02.21.07)
Here's a quote for you! "ISLAM ISN'T IN AMERICA TO BE EQUAL TO ANY OTHER FAITH, BUT TO BECOME DOMINANT. THE QURAN SHOULD BE THE HIGHEST AUTHORITY IN AMERICA, AND ISLAM THE ONLY ACCEPTED RELIGION ON EARTH" Omar Ahmed, Chairman of the Board of CAIR (Council of American Islamic Relations) July 1998 Long before 9/11! But hey, let's not talk about the religion of peace right?
60. #56 very entertaining:) thank you
papa jay   (02.21.07)
only in israeli law libraries it might say that. so tell me Mr. international law what the hell are res. 242 and 338 about. did the UN forget to bring an international law book to the vote that day?
