1. Go For It
William ,   London, Canada   (02.22.07)
Those who want ties to the EU, go for it. The crimes in Europe against Jews were committed by individuals. There is no collective guilt. Why be a slave to the past. The present and the future is what counts. Co-operation is good for everyone. The past is past.
2. Israel in the EU..Never.
marya ,   sacramento, USA   (02.22.07)
The EU will never accept Israel into the EU. Can you imagine what the Jewish State would have to give up in order to be "accepted" by the EU - you think Turkey's under pressure?
3. 11 % would leave, must not be happy in israel
papa jay   (02.22.07)
maybe send the settlers there, clear the way for peace.
4. MOST ISRAELI DON'T CARE FOR A JEWISH STATE??
HaDaR ,   israel   (02.22.07)
MOST ISRAELI DON'T CARE FOR A JEWISH STATE?? Don't they know that European Law DEMANDS free immigration within the EU and that there would be NO WAY to prevent Romanian, German, Hungarian ANTISEMITES to flood Israel?
5. If Israel were to become part of the EU
David H   (02.22.07)
it would have to accept all the conditions demanded of EU members, including the acceptance of foreign workers. Any EU resident could move into Israel. Not a good idea. Israel would be a better country if some Israelis were to move back to Europe or elsewhere, where their hearts really are. The only ones with a true love for the land are the so called "settlers" and their supporters. The spirit of Judea and Samaria is the True Israel.
6. to #2
Jan ,   usa   (02.22.07)
Quite the opposite my friend. This will take place either this year, or early next year for sure. Why? By Israel joining the EU, it allows for the re-emergence of the Roman Empire. The end time prophets talk about this. It actually is very exciting to see all the events spoken by the Old Covenant prophets coming to pass line upon line, and precept upon precept. This re-emergence of the Romand Empire completes a moed. However, it does not go well for Israel and it's leaders(those who have signed this deal) when this happens. But happen it will you can take that to the bank.
7. #2 Hopefully you're right.
AK   (02.22.07)
The EU has turned out to be a terrible deal for the Europeans and would be deadly for Israel.
8. It would be the End of the Jewish State !!!
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (02.22.07)
The Palestinian Authority/PLO/Hamas would also decide to join the EU. PA Muslims joined by millions of other Muslims from other countries would flood inside the green line Israel. Millions of Muslim immigrants from Arab countries, Africa, Turkey, etc. now living in Europe would move to Israel. It is surely well-known to Europe's Muslim immigrants that Arab MK Bishara has called several times for an intifada against Israels's Jews and that other Arab MKs collude with Israel's enemies and call for the violent overthrow of Israel.
9. Insanely stupid idea!! You want to give Hitler a 2nd chance?
Jeremiah ,   Sunny, CA   (02.22.07)
10. Stupid
abe ,   manchester   (02.22.07)
I think it would be a bad idea for Israel to be part of the EU. If they really like us, where are they when it come to the UN Security Council and there support for the Anti Israel, biased resolutions that get passed in that house of lies. NO, Israel will never be part of the EU.
11. EU NO!! Nato YES
Samuel D. ,   London   (02.22.07)
It would be better for Israel to join NATO than the EU!
12. Love to be in hate to apply
rh ,   Israel   (02.22.07)
The pain criticism and concessions needed to get into the EU would not be worth the effort. If you look at Turkey's application you will have some idea what would be in store for Israel. A Palestinian state would have to be in place first, including Jerusalem. The economic benefits of joining could be huge.
13. #3 Papa Jay's logic doesn't connect
Mike ,   Atlanta, USA   (02.22.07)
Jay, which 11% would leave? I doubt it's the settlers. Send the settlers to Europe to clear the way for peace? Why not send the Israeli Arabs to Europe for that purpose?
14. NO to EU Reuven Brauner for Prime Minister
David R. ,   Jerusalem   (02.22.07)
Joining the EU would serve no useful purpose.More troublemakers could easily come to Israel. Joining NATO makes more sense!
15. #4
Marcell ,   Israel   (02.22.07)
Yeah, right: Israel will be FLOODED by immigrants . . . . . we can't even convince the Diaspora to make aliya, why would anyone else choose to live in a country in which it's citizens are always in danger and at war? We need to open our horisons and join the international community. There are many advantages in being a member country of the EU besides an EU passport.
16. No to EU
Carl L ,   Ann Arbor, Michigan   (02.22.07)
HighFive to #5!
17. Israel entering the EU
Roxy ,   Israel   (02.22.07)
Will never happen because for the fact that Israel is not on the european continent which all other members of the Eu except Britian are. The member states of the Eu would not consider Israel for membership because of this. However if they invite us to join Nato that we should do!
18. I would leave
Rami ,   Nazareth, Palestine   (02.22.07)
I think that many of those who would choose to emigrate are young Arabs like me who see no future for us here because of Israel's treatment of us. I would rather raise my family elsewhere. My parents aren't happy but they understand.
19. Why are the polls only done with Foolish Left-wingers?
David ,   Jerusalem   (02.22.07)
20. EU=Euarabia Union
Joseph K ,   Miami, Florida   (02.22.07)
This would be the same as joing the Arab League!
21. (title) worst mistake.
(02.22.07)
and you will understand why, after it happens.
22. EU=Entirely Useless EU=Appease Now
Mark L ,   Denver, Colorado   (02.22.07)
EU is utterless useless to us.
23. Bad deal...
Franco ,   Roma, Italia   (02.22.07)
E.U. membership has devastated italian agriculture and cows breeding; introduction of € as the currency has doubled ihe inflation rate and what we bought for 1000 lire we buy now for 1 €, that is supposed to be the equivalent of nearly 2000 lire. Moreover, we have now renounced our independent politics on many matters, including economics and foreign affairs. Israel should apply for top economic ties with E.U., but not a full membership; aplly, instead for NATO membership, and put the Country under NATO atomic umbrella: this could bring to a potential Israeli unilateral atomic desarmament, being Israel's nuclear weapons only a permanent invitation to atomic race in the region. Deterrence does not function anymore, when a crazy leader like Ahmadinejad is ready to see his own country completely annihilated, provided that Israel is also destroyed.
24. What a good idea
tommy ,   belfast uk   (02.22.07)
That would save Olmert face as all the muslims could come and live in Israel legally and destroy it from inside ...besides having dialogues with the deaf must be exasperating
25. #2 and others:
Michael Steiner   (02.22.07)
Heh, yes, your nightmare of Israel joining the E.U. won't materialize, ironically, not because Israel doesn't want it but because--as you say--we'd never be accepted, what with all the human rights violations, corruption at all levels, nepotism. We really need to clean up our act, not for the sake of the E.U. but our own.
26. A long way to go first
Scooby ,   Ramat Gan   (02.22.07)
Israel would have to change very many ideas before joining the EU. One major area would be employment. All job descriptions would be neutral and would not allow discrimination. No more 'where are you from' ' how old are you' ' have you any children' questions. Secular and Hareidi ,Russian, Arab, Tunisian, French, American etc. all equal. The 'get-out' excuses we have today would be non existant or subject to severe penalties. It's just not about to happen. The way everyone here thinks their way is best it'll take years before the EU even think of talking seriously about it.
27. Israel & The EU
Simon ,   Malha, Jerusalem, IL   (02.22.07)
The poll shows one thing - a very big hand of friendship offered by the Israelis. We should be seeking new world partners to break down our one sided connection with America - yes. Europe, India and China should be high on our agenda. Membership of the EU is not relevant nor necessary. The poll asks 511 people - your article exagerates grossly that 75% want to be in EU - it is like asking three people if they want to be in the EU - not representative.. if you want to know the answer have a referendum! Before you do - have a referendum on several solutions to the peace process!
28. EU doesn't need trouble maker
(02.22.07)
and those 11% they just can go back to from where they came ... very simple .... this is the promissed heaven you promissed the Jews with it in Israel ?? ha
29. 75%?
linda   (02.22.07)
511 people and also arabs among them? sure they want to go to Euope, all their brothers live in EU. Well I do not want to go to EU, and people who want to go do not know what is going on in Euope, if they knew they would not wanted to go!!The Jews I mean. I was born in euope and have the citizenship, but thanks it is more safe here and I can still walk alone on the streets. something i did not do 20 years ago in Euope.
30. #18 - maybe you can enlighten me
Scott ,   Haifa   (02.22.07)
Can you elaborate what you mean when you say "Israel's treatment of us". From my point of view, an Arab in Israel can go as far as he wants. I'm sure that he will meet antaganism for being an Arab, but so will a new Jewish oleh from America. An Arab in Israel can study, and be a doctor or an engineer, and earn a good living. He can even be an MK and totally badmouth the government if he wants - where can you find that kind of freedom...try that in Syria or former Iraq. So please enlighten me, because your comment reminds me of growing up in America, and how black people used to blame everyone else for their problems instead of going as far as they wanted to go in life, because they can if they want. Your mind is all that limits you. There is nobody stopping you from succeeding. You are more free in Israel to prosper than in Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Syria...etc. That's oppression. Maybe I just can't grasp what your problem is, but I'm asking.
